Re: Member in membership not recognized by Groups.io
Frances,
Thanks for the tips.?? There were two problems: "Problem was the email address I was using. I always omit the dot between first and last name ¡ª and, until now, with no problem.?
?
Seem that .io needs the dot."
And, the user was set to have all messages moderated for some reason. Thanks again, Dan ? |

Is thereIn a completely different vein than Bruce's, I've selected the option in my browsers (Firefox and Edge) to have them restore the tabs (windows) from my previous session when I start up again. Of course neither of these address the underlying issue: that Groups.io lacks a "go to" capability for these paginated lists. Re: Interpreting email delivery response
Larry Parsons
I have 4 members that haven't responded to our groups email since we migrated from Yahoo at the beginning of Dec. 2019 that had the gsmtp code. I assumed from the research above they were receiving the email but it was going into their spam. Then I checked my own email to see what the normal code looked like and it had the gsmtp code at the end and I received the email ok. ? Message[CCABOD] 2023 National Specialty in Ft. Re: Groups.io navigation (was Calendar time problem)
WRB,
Everyone is a newbie once. It would be instantly obvious if itPerhaps. But my purpose in this topic was to help you and other readers to understand and use Groups.io as it is. The (belated) screen shots were only a means to that end. If you want to discuss possible improvements to site navigation perhaps you should start a new topic for that to make it clear to readers that it contains suggested site improvements rather than "how to" information. BTW, although suggestions discussed in GMF won't be seen by Groups.io, I've no problem with discussing them here to "hone" them before posting them in beta. As long as the topic is clearly identified as such. Shal GMF Moderator -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: bouncing members
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Ann,Have a look at the help on the groups.io main page, it describes in detail how bounces are handled in groups.io. Quote from that: our final step is to set the account¡¯s status to?Bounced?and stop sending emails of any kind to it. So the account is never deleted automatically, but groups.io will stop sending any emails to it after it decides that the account cannot be reached by email. An invitation assumes that you've already checked people out and want them on your group, so acceptance allows them in.? If you need to do more pre-checking, you'll need to do it before sending an invitation.I thought about this for quite some time when out walking the dog. :) If someone applies "out of the blue" and provides a response to the Pending Subscription message in some way that is unsatisfactory (for want of a better word) then they can have their application rejected; no problem. But to my way of thinking inviting someone to join and then rejecting them for some reason seems somehow dishonourable or perhaps just plain rude. I can just see the point that Cindy made in her post, but only just. Obviously this is a purely personal opinion but sometimes the degree of control that Owners seem to want to exercise crosses the border into micromanagement. Chris |
Re: AOL members / issues

We just transferred from Yahoo group a month ago. A clean migration of 38,000 emails--thank you very much.
Currently working on 7 of 52 members who haven't engaged. I have one AOL account not responding that has the dirdel response. I checked several of our other AOL accounts and they all get the dirdel response, so I think it may be the rule and not the exception.?? |
Can Mods hide a post?
#howto
Hello GMF Members,
Occasionally a member will ask a personal question of another member but not click on the Private Button so that the question or sometimes the reply alone will get posted to the Message page. When this happens is there a way ¨Cshort of deleting the post¨C to toggle the message to display or hide it from view online at the group's site? I realize that this message may have also been sent out to all members who receive emails and digests, but it might well prove better that that post not remain permanently in the message archives ¨Cat least not visibly. I ask because I've done several searches here on GMF and have not found this specific topic discussed. NOTE: I checked on Beta just now and saw that the topic had been discussed a while back but that no concrete decision was made and the idea of hiding a post or topic was set to the side for the time being. Wondering now, is it maybe time to reconsider this idea of being able to hide/display a post/topic? Regards, Paul M. == |

I have a another question about bouncing members: Does groups.io delete them after a period of time? No; they just sit there in your Members List. Win -- Short answer:? Bookmark the page in your browser and use that to come back next morning. Longer, more technical answer:? If you look at the URL displayed in the address bar of your browser, the query string (part after the question mark) will increment by your "items per page" setting as you advance through the list. In your case there should be a "600" as the next-to-last entry in that string...this tells groups.io to start displaying attachments at the 600th entry (base zero addressing). If you look at this sequence of comma-separated values, the first is the items per page, the second represents the sort key, the third the starting record, and I don't know what the fourth is. Try entering different numbers and see what happens. Bruce |

You could send an email (from a personal/club/business address) with a link to join the group, then use the Pending Subscriber notice to ask specific questions when they apply. ?We often employ this choice and it's become a smooth process. The email we send contains a link to our group's GIO home page. Once there,?they can request to join and?that triggers an email from GIO which requires them to answer a few questions to validate their membership in our organization and their identify. If they respond we know the email address is a "good" one.? On the other hand, if we already have knowledge and have confirmed their membership status, their identify and the fact that both are linked to a working and active email address, then we send an Join Invitation email and they are added as soon as they click that link.? Computer skills and the desire to become more familiar with GIO is an entirely different matter. At the very minimum, they need to use email. It still surprises me how many people have a email address and don't understand how to manage their email account or how an email address empowers them to do things online. Some aren't really sure what their email address or mistype it which is why we validate it before sending invitations to join.? BTW, one of the reasons we formed a group is to mentor our members in the computer skills they need to perform in their (non profit) volunteer role. -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of ASG Volunteers Group |
