Re: question about bouncing history info

The system just sent another bounce probe that was successfully delivered. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Sort of.? Bounce handling is a bit of a mess.? Even after someone stops bouncing, they'll have a blue B for a few days.? Mark did this so that people shouldn't be going in and out of B status constantly.? With the delay, if there are no additional bounces in 3-5 days, the blue B gets cleared.? If there are additional bounces, I think the count continues from where it was and they'll become a red B after 5 total bounces.? The person that is bouncing should be able to see several of the most recent bounces using their subscription page.? See also /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/dealing-with-bouncing

At present, each group and each subgroup has the allotted amount of storage shown on the pricing page.? The original plan was to have the limit apply to the total group, including subgroups, but Mark had a lot of trouble getting the accounting to work.? If you have a free group with 2 subgroups, you have a total of 3 GB available, but can't 'share' it amongst them (at least not directly.)

When you create an email and send it to a group, it will (probably) start a new topic.? Also see /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Topics%20and%20the%20threading%20algorithm

The <groupname>@groups.io is the default when a group is created.? If a subgroup is later created, the main group takes the form of main@<groupname>.groups.io, but the original still works.? If you later delete all subgroups, it reverts to the original.

question about bouncing history info

I have a member of one of my groups who is currently in the blue bouncing state as of 12/30/19. Looking at his "Activity History" I see that in November he was set to bouncing and a couple of days later was no longer bouncing. I assume this means he responded to a bounce probe from the system. Now he is bouncing again and when I look at his "Email Delivery History" all that shows is one successful delivery of a bounce probe on 12/31/19. There is nothing listed under "Most Recent Unsuccessful Attempt" or "Recent Bounces". I suspect the bounce error messages, if they were shown, would indicate a temporary and intermittent type of error. If I knew what it was perhaps I could advise him about the problem, but there is no information about what the error was on the message(s) that put him in the bouncing state. Does the past bouncing info get wiped as soon as any message, even a bounce probe, is successfully delivered? It would seem to me that that info should stick around, at least until the user gets unbounced. If this is an intermittent problem it could be hard to check at just the right time to see one of the error messages. I would have to keep checking and hope to look between the time a message bounces and the next one is successfully delivered.

Thanks.

Jonathan

sub group storage

i have three groups that i would like to combine.? two of them into subgroups of the other one.? ?they are large.? would the storage be calculated for all the groups together or for each individual group?

Are these essentially synonymous? Any difference between the two? I find it a bit confusing to have two different forms for email addresses in these two places
They are synonymous. The one with "main" reflects that you have a subgroup. Your subscribers can post to either address if they wish to post to the main group.

I'm new to groups.io, my apologies for asking some basic questions. I couldn't find a topic on this, or info in the wiki.

The closer the original is to 900x300 pixels, the larger the area covered.? If it's larger than that, it will be scaled down to fit within those limits.

How do I enlarge photo on home page of my group?

Sarah Breithaupt

When I upload photo to home page of my group it comes out really small. I can't find a way to enlarge it, say to the size of the elephant photo on this forum's home page. Can anyone help with directions?

Thanks!

Re: problem with .rr

Duane, I have some experience in this. Here are the two messages. While you are correct that 4xy messages are temporary and should be retried and 5xy messages are permanent and should not be retried, more detail is available. The codes are defined in .

The second digit (x above), breaks out as:
0: A syntax error was detected in the request
1: This is a reply to information that was requested
2: These are replies relating to the communications channel
3: Unspecified
4: Unspecified
5: These replies indicate the status of the receiver mail system vis-a-vis the requested transfer or other mail system action.

Let's look at these two individually:

Jan2: 4 different messages

pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net: 452 4.1.0 <[email protected]>?server temporarily unavailable?AUP#CMPOL

This message came from the Parkview Colorado mail exchange of charter.net.?
The message had code 452. The second digit was 5, consistent with the text "server temporarily unavailable." The complete definition for 452 is?
"Requested action not taken: insufficient system storage"

They make reference to their Acceptable Use Policy, but it doesn't seem to be relevant in this case.

Dec 15 and 16: 2 different messages

pkvw-mx.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net: 421 p-impin019.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net cmsmtp 66.175.222.12 blocked AUP#CMPOL

This message states that the sending source?p-impin019.msg.pkvw.co.charter.net?at IP address 66.175.222.12 has been blocked.?The message had code 421. The second digit was 2, consistent with the text stating that the communications channel was blocked. The complete definition for 421 is?
421? <domain> Service not available, closing transmission channel
? ? ? (This may be a reply to any command if the service knows it must shut down)

This is not general server overload like the case above. In this case, charter.net has explicitly blocked 66.175.222.12. That address belongs to linode, where groups.io is hosted.

Any group, free or premium, can change the image on their home page. Plus you can change the icon on the feed.
