Re: Yahoo Groups shutdown commences
#yahoo
Like so many people, I created an email address on Yahoo, which was required when Yahoo took over groups. I never really used that address and had little reason to check it unless word got out that Yahoo was purging inactive accounts. Owner or moderator messages went to my primary email account through my independent ISP.Some quiet group owners may not have known.I'd say that's unlikely. I haven't had an account on Yahoo When word of the impending closure appeared on here, I went and checked my groups and found the notice on the group pages there. I never received messages to my primary email address. I even requested a backup from the dashboard and logged in to Yahoo to get that. But it wasn't until I started looking for the response that said my transfer was ready that I had occasion to look at my Yahoo mail. And finally, at that time, I found the messages to owners and moderators. So it is possible that some owners and moderators who operated almost entirely by email may have missed them, or found them too late. This is just my experience. Dano |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere are two ways to get the membership info that I know worked:?? In YG, export the membership (and other member lists, like bouncing and banned) as CSV's using the remaining functions unde the "Management" tab. This works for <1000 members. ?? Use PGO. I've not checked this still eworks -John ==================== On 12/16/2019 9:01 PM, Harry via

I know but it is we owners that get yelled at . This is true many are on no mail and unless you email each one. or set those to individual email they may never know? Don't mind me I am just cranky.?

And in many groups, a lot of people are no mail or digest; if they haven't checked the site recently, the owner had no way of letting them know. No one can expect an owner, who after all is unpaid, to send out 1,000 emails just in case someone didn't know Yahoo was bailing. Samdu |

If your group has 1000 or fewer members:
?
To obtain a list of your Yahoo Group members you can go to the Manage Members page and in the Actions menu Export (download) a CSV or TSV format file. It is best to open the file in a spreadsheet like Excel, then you can easily copy the Email column to paste into the Direct Add or Invite page. Note: this is only for groups with 1000 or fewer members, due to Yahoo's Export restriction.
I am hoping that someone may give any up-to-date info on this. On this wiki page - see about uploading member names to Groups.io

But you would have to moderate at least their first message if it is an unrestricted group. Check out the Spam Control in Settings. You must choose from among these four options. At least one of these options must be set as a spam-control measure. ?
If you choose Restricted only, you do not need to moderate ANY messages, if you wish. But you will have to approve new subscribers. There is no Spam Control setting that will allow a new subscriber to join your group without approval and immediately post an unmoderated message.

I think that is EXACTLY what happened.? I have created a new group called REALGroupName.
I never received any email from Yahoo! about this and while I saw the message on the page, it was referring to content, not that Yahoo! Groups was effectively going away (saying it is still an email list is SO disingenuous). Is there a simple way to still extract the membership list from the Yahoo! group?? I am still owner on that list. Thanks to ALL of you for your help.? It is sincerely appreciated. |

Global change to Subscription option?
We recently created a groups.io group with input from EYT. The Default Sub Setting, before the transfer, for Message Selection was Following Only. We realized later we wanted All Messages and changed. I assume this now applies to new invites but not to prior imported members.
Is there any way to globally change the original imported members to All Messages (never mind if an individual member has changed this setting)? Besides changing individually. Thank you |
Re: Yahoo Groups shutdown commences

Yes Yahoo Groups is dead. I get nothing now.
? "Yahoo servers appear to be offline or your IP has been temporarily locked out."? ? And the pages I did have up, I click on the links, get redirects to the groups ABOUT page only. Nothing else exists there.? Even the group's min page graphic is gone.? bummer.? I liked that.? YG looks cold and gray now. ? Looks like I have more work to do getting the data saved from there posted once again here on GIO. BMaverick |
Re: My Yahoo Group already exists on groups.io
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou might contact the owner and ask if they were holding the name for your group. I did that for a couple groups. One group I did it for turned out to be an orphan and I'm trying to pull it?together again?now.
?
Support has intervened in a couple cases like this, but it's always been?on a case-by-case basis. It's important to try to contact the owner and work things out first. Some group names have been claimed by upset rejected Y! group members seeking their own twisted version of revenge.?If you go to support, you need to have all your facts straight and make a very?good case.
?
This is one reason why group owners should have been paying attention in the past?and acted proactively. It cost nothing to set up a duplicate group on groups.io to reserve the name.

Re: My Yahoo Group already exists on groups.io
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere is another possibility. Someone wanted to hijack one of my YG and registered the name with GIO, then transferred some of the files without Mod priviledges on YG.Sound unlikely? Well, it happened to me. Fortunately the hijacker was not able to get the YG membership list. I complained to GIO, without effect. I had to change the group name when transferring from YG to GIO, and because of bad timing, it cost another $110.? :(( -John ============================= On 12/16/2019 8:32 PM, Duane wrote:
