Global change to Subscription option?

We recently created a groups.io group with input from EYT. The Default Sub Setting, before the transfer, for Message Selection was Following Only. We realized later we wanted All Messages and changed. I assume this now applies to new invites but not to prior imported members.
Is there any way to globally change the original imported members to All Messages (never mind if an individual member has changed this setting)? Besides changing individually.
Thank you

Re: Yahoo Groups shutdown commences #yahoo

Yes Yahoo Groups is dead. I get nothing now.
?
"Yahoo servers appear to be offline or your IP has been temporarily locked out."?
?
And the pages I did have up, I click on the links, get redirects to the groups ABOUT page only. Nothing else exists there.? Even the group's min page graphic is gone.? bummer.? I liked that.? YG looks cold and gray now.
?
Looks like I have more work to do getting the data saved from there posted once again here on GIO.

You might contact the owner and ask if they were holding the name for your group. I did that for a couple groups. One group I did it for turned out to be an orphan and I'm trying to pull it?together again?now.
?
Support has intervened in a couple cases like this, but it's always been?on a case-by-case basis. It's important to try to contact the owner and work things out first. Some group names have been claimed by upset rejected Y! group members seeking their own twisted version of revenge.?If you go to support, you need to have all your facts straight and make a very?good case.
?
This is one reason why group owners should have been paying attention in the past?and acted proactively. It cost nothing to set up a duplicate group on groups.io to reserve the name.

There is another possibility. Someone wanted to hijack one of my YG and registered the name with GIO, then transferred some of the files without Mod priviledges on YG.
Sound unlikely? Well, it happened to me. Fortunately the hijacker was not able to get the YG membership list. I complained to GIO, without effect.

I had to change the group name when transferring from YG to GIO, and because of bad timing, it cost another $110.? :((

With the settings you provided, the owner or moderator will have to moderate at least your first message.
Did you see who the owner is from any posts?

Harry, this is just members helping members. We aren't staff! And I doubt that support would help you at this point. Perhaps not at all.

Also the group is probably new on Groups.io so not much activity yet.

Whoa! A bit of a free-for-all!
So you can see the messages without joining. Anyone can!
Unmoderated (except one or more posts).
And no permission needed to join.
So just click on Join this group.
You can always ask.

I suggest though that you are careful what you post since the whole world can see what you post.?

Join and check out the message or messages. Open any to see what you can glean from the email address.

Good luck.

Re: Yahoo Groups shutdown commences #yahoo

There may even have been groups where the owners decided that they simply didn't want to invest the time and effort required to move a group or restart it elsewhere.

I can't say how grateful I am for the people here who generously donate their time and expertise to help others, but some simply don't have the time or expertise to deal with these things.

Only group owners and moderators can decide how much time and effort they ar willing to expend on a group. IMHO, we should appreciate what they have done, and not complain about jobs they chose not to take on.

Sandy (not an owner, just a moderator)

I'd say that's unlikely. I haven't had an account on Yahoo for 6 years and I got the email notifications they sent out to group owners, so anyone that's still an owner would have gotten them. I think they sent them to anyone that had ever owned a group.

Re: Yahoo Groups shutdown commences #yahoo

Owners coud send out "Special Notices" which often overrode "No Email" but not all Owners got the Yahoo notice. I didn't.
Also, members didn't have a real 'need to know' much in advance.

No one can expect an owner, who after all is unpaid, to send out 1,000 emails just in case someone didn't know Yahoo was bailing.

Well, check out the settings for the group on the group homepage.
Is it moderated or not? "Posts to this group do not require approval from the moderators." - unmoderated.
Is the message archive accessible to you? "Archives are visible to anyone." - public
Even if it is a restricted group, you can see the date (or if today) the last post - on left under Group Information.

Why not join the group? You can always unsubscribe. At least you will find out if there are many of your old group there.

Re: Quoted post position

Quoting is sometimes essential, especially if some of your readers might be getting 50-100 emails a day.

If I wish to respond to a post saying they don't like a specific sentence in a book, then:

"I agree with X" is useless.

"When X says "that [book title] is not factual, I agree." is just slightly more useful.

"X said: [Book title] is not factual in that name are all wrong," followed by my "I agree" tells the reader what the discussions was about.

So what's quoted is whatever will let someone follow a conversation, without, of course, quoting all previous emails. A matter of judgement, as so many things are.

Sandy

No, even if you do read the subjectline. No quote means you don't know what part of whose message the reply is to

groetjes, Ronaldo
Well, there is one workaround - if you are online, click to open the message.
Then change from "message" to "topic" at the top of the page.?
That topic will have a vertical blue line on the left side and you can then read the full context.
(At least it does in Safari on my MacBook.)

But quoting is better! Works in email.
