Good morning

I have a member who is on moderated status.

When she post, I get 2 notifications that are exactly the same.

Why is this happening?

There have been discussions about this in the past.? My own preference for shorthand is GIO (similar to YG for YahooGroups) that I pronounce jeeoh.? Some use Gio, some use Groups I O without the dot.

Re: What Do You Call Groups.io?

I call it groups dot IO. It flows just fine off of mine. In fact it is such unique name that it is easy to remember.

What Larry said.

Or, don't remove your primary email address, leave it in the group as a
backup owner "just in case".

Unless you're planning to make the Members list available to members
(most groups don't) the members won't know that your primary address is
associated with the group - unless you post using that address.

We had a similar situation several years ago. I am co-administrator of a listserv (real L-Soft listserv) that runs on a co-op Linux server that was located in the home of one of our members. He wanted to participate actively in discussions, but wanted to remain anonymous so other members would not give weight to the fact that he essentially completely controlled the operating environment when he posted. A secondary reason may have been that he and his wife were retired spooks who had worked in Navy intelligence. So he had a ¡°public¡± email address and a private one that he just used to communicate with the other admins. He passed away several years ago, and at that time we were finally able to reveal his identity.

As far as the server is concerned, we moved it to a virtual instance on because we clearly couldn¡¯t leave it in his now empty home.

Best regards,
Larry

Re: An announcement from PG Offline - Y! group transfer extension!?

Bruce,
?
True statement ...
?
"...If you want attachments and photos, I suspect you still have only 4 days to get your data using PGO. No sympathy for procrastinators."

We've done the PGOffline aka PGO and the Yahoo Download.? PGO will get all the photos AND put them into albums per the metadata of the YG member who uploaded them.? BUT, not sure who on my end actually did that because our owner and mods left back in 2009.? Still got it ALL thanks to PGO !!!

As for the Databases, you need to DL them from your YG yourself right on that Database page.? Click on the ability to DL as a CSV file that can easily import to Excel or OpenOffice.

What Do You Call Groups.io?

This is a bit of dumb question but what do you all call this service? Pronouncing "Groups dot I O" doesn't exactly flow off the tongue. I thought someone on here may have a better way to refer to it to newcombers. (I bought a domain that I forwarded to our group's Groups.io - DupontForum.com.)?

Re: Yahoo has extended deadline for downloading to January 31, 2020 11:59 PST #yahoo

John,

KEEP TRYING.

It took 9 tries before Yahoo found all the data for my 4 groups to download.

This took over 5 weeks from the October 31st date.?

Thus, put out your request.? When you get a reply and then look at the download page that has NOTHING, then DELETE the request and START OVER.? It's the ONLY way to keep at Yahoo to GET YOUR DATA.

Lilly Tomlin eventually will get it right in the end.? LOL

Re: transfers from yahoo groups - expected time to completion? #yahoo #transfer

The problem I'm having is with PG Offline.? I wish my experience were as good as some of you have had.? I've tried two versions and cannot get beyond downloading 1000 messages, even though I was finally able to pay them.? They do NOT respond to repeated emails at all.? Now they are insisting that I am not using the proper yahoo address--but I have checked repeatedly and I AM!? I've even tried numerous permutations of the address, and get the same response.? And no, I do NOT have the two-part authentication that PG warns against so ominously.? I am most unhappy with the performance of PG Offline, not the least of which is that their promised "30 day free trial" was actually only ONE day.? It is particularly annoying that they will not respond to emails.? I could not in good conscience recommend the program.

Posting photos and reply indicators #question

Hello everyone! Couple of questions from newbie on io.groups: Guys, can members of groups post pictures and how? And can we do the thing as at yahoo groups, when we can see on which message it was a reply?

Thanks in advance

Re: Owner really messed up and got dropped #changeemail

Just a point. Groups.io allows you to create an email alias for your account.

Thanks Francis. I forgot that?Groups.io offered an "email" alias.?

Good point. Terminology can be misleading when dealing with multiple environments. Having an email account alias is very different than having a?Groups.io account alias.

I use gmx, Gmail and domain email and those were the type of alias emails I was describing because that is what I use. An alias with your personal email account that would be seperately registered with your GIO Group and assigned owner status.?

Here's how it works:
Create name @ gmx dot com
Create an alias in that same account called name2 @ gmx dot com
Assign both email addresses owner status in your group

If you lose?Groups.io access under one email you can use the other to access your group because gmx treats both email addresses as one email account.?
(Groups.io would not see them as an?Groups.io account alias.)

Gmail accepts "alias" emails created under different ISPs.?
Domain emails allow you to create email aliases, (sometimes managed outside the domain).?

I find that creating and using email account alias are useful in a number of ways.?

Thanks for the API start link reference. There's always an unexpected cascade when making changes to the way things are set up (sigh) so generally I leave working things alone most of the time. But certainly worth evaluating.

GSuite is fairly stable and since I've come to know it well, I am leaving my 2 board groups there inside domain control for now.?

I like that my domain GSuite Groups have a domain email address that I assigned. Makes it easier on the members (who change positions with elections and appointments) to always have that consistant domain email address for the group. They know every board member will always receive what is sent if they use that email address when sending. GSuite flags email from non group members outside the domain as spam.?

I know GIO also offers the ability to assign a group email address but it wouldn't be a domain one since I am on the free, basic GIO plan and if it's ever "burned" a new one would need to be created. In a domain managed group, no one outside the domain can ever send email to the group without me first authorizing them so the risk of losing their domain group email address is nil.?

You are too late to start a transfer with Easy Transfer.
However you can request a download from Yahoo.

Of course, you can just start a group on Groups.io without your message archive.

It sounds as though Edit Archives is missing from your list of permissions; if that is not checked then the drop - down arrow will be missing from your Topics view.
