Are you remembering to start it with the octothorpe (#)?? There shouldn't be any problem with something like #JohnSmith.

Re: Migrating from Yahoo Groups #yahoo

I have a data download from Yahoo in October. I thought it included only my messages, but on further inspection it does look like the entire group¡¯s messages are saved (in mboxrd).

This is very encouraging; hopefully I will be able to upload the entire message archive to Groups.io at some point.?

Any chance that you can include selective quotes above your posts? In some cases it is totally unclear about what (and who) you are replying to, and a bit of careful selective quoting should eliminate that.

No.

2. Is my understanding of these two attachment options correct:

2.1 Bounce = Bounce the whole message including attachments, if so what is the response to the sender?

It will be bounced with a 500-level error, as follows:

groupname @ groups.io (reading confirmation): 500 The group does not permit attachments.

2.2 Strip = Post the message but strip the attachments, if so what is the response to the sender?

If the subscriber has email delivery turned on, the message will be posted back to him without the attachment. There is no separate notification.

3. Is there a way to bulk download multiple files sent as attachments?

You can export all attachments using the "Export Group Data" button at the top of the Settings page. Groups.io provides no other bulk download function.

Hashtags

I have read the Hashtag FAQ:

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Creating-Hashtags

But I have a question:

In creating hashtags for our group, we keep getting "That Hashtag is Invalid"

The hashtags we are creating are the name of a person, they are all one word, all standard ASCII characters, have no special characters, no numbers, no accents etc, and are not profane or curse words.

Why do we keep getting this error?

A limit to the number of hashtags a group can have?

Certain character not allowed together for example part of last name Sz ?

I have read the Attachments, Files and Photos FAQs:

Group Policy Announcement For New Members

Hello Fellow Owners/Moderators,

I just transferred my group from Yahoo! to groups.io and was wondering if any of you have a suggestion regarding the best way of informing new members of your group purpose/policies.? Previously, I included the link to a PDF in the welcome email to the new member and that file outlined the purpose of the group, what subjects were and were not acceptable for posting, general etiquette, etc.? It's a two-page file and am happy to share it with other owners/moderators, but given the many features of groups.io, I welcome any suggestions for a better way to handle this.

Thanks Much,
Rich?

In that case, about all you could do would be forward the message to the group from your email program, unless the person wants to also make a post to the group.

Only if it contains a virus I believe.? See ? The phishing and malware scans were disabled last I heard, due to excessive false positives.? You can somewhat control what happens using the Viruses option in the Message Policies section of the Settings page.

How do I do that?
Is the questionnaire an attachment? If yes, what format?

Perfect, Bruce. Thank you.

That helps a lot - and also will help with furture changes/additions to our masthead photo, which we do change at various intervals.

Much appreciated.

Good advice from Duane. You should also look at your subscription on the left side menu of your group page. Scroll down and make sure that all the boxes are ticked for email and be sure to save at the bottom of the page.

The filter.gorge.net email service uses a site name RATSspam to filter email.? Somehow, they got the Groups.io email server on their list.? While looking around, I found that I could remove GIO from the list and did so.? It should be okay for awhile, but it may be caused by people (or their service) marking messages as spam, even when they're not.? You might want to check the information at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam

"Can post" and what does it mean? plus other stuff

Couple of things.

1) I'm the owner of the group and I am not getting posts send to my email address.? I can see them online under messages, but they are not being sent to my email account?? What are the things I need to look for here to fix this?

2) While viewing Members, I have an Owner tag (blue background) and a P tag (also blue). When I hover over the P tag, it says "can post".? What is this and how can it be managed?

3) Some of the members have a NC tag (magenta background) that says not confirmed.? What does it mean and hot can it be manged?

Thanks

Mike
