And presto . . . we are now transferred! I need to check things a bit but all looks good . . . very good indeed.

Thanks to all who helped me with this one in a lifetime (I hope) experience.

Although I don't expect Yahoo (Verizon) to drop their email-service (it's their core-business) I can understand why you would stop using it for e-mail. On the other hand I don't see why you'd recommend gmail or outlook. Gmail is owned by google which has no respect for your privacy whatsoever and wastes tons of electricity on following and analysing your every move on the Internet.
Outlook is owned by microsoft, right? Both are too big already anyway.

I myself am using a small dutch provider with maybe 50.000 subscribers. It has a decent spamfilter "spam-assassin", and phishing-attempts are easily spotted as they are not in proper Dutch..

The helpdesk works, so I really think it's worth the 2 euro per month

Except her membership is the email address she is using. That is what I don¡¯t understand.

Here's the message I received:

"We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed.

Transfer Status
Your group is awaiting export from Yahoo. [Stage 1 of 4]"

Is this not indicative of a transfer underway?

Daphne; firstly I'm glad that you have managed to get rid of the outbreak of hashtagitis. There probably are advantages in thier use but the group I moderate almost manages without and other groups of which I am a member don't seem to have any set. In that respect I am not the person to give you anything approaching a definitive answer either way.

It might be worth considering preparing some "Moderator Only" hashtags, such as #Group_Management for those occasions you need to post something about the operation of your group. You could also include #Photos, #Files & #Messages for use with #Group_Management for any occasion where the post is relevant only to those features.

If your members buy and sell stuff you can also provide #For_Sale, #Wanted for use by members themselves. I would certainly suggest starting sparingly and see how things progress. Just keep a firm grip on who can create hashtags!

Not silly at all. If you were allowed to pay month by month, you could get your transfer done and then downgrade, stiffing Mark for the other 11 months.

Wow, that is annoying. Also it's kind of silly, since there is a discount given for paying in full.

but I'll do it--even though I have no involvement with the group I'm transferring. I'll be glad when this is over.? (YES I have all privileges).?

Re: Request for second $220 fee?

Here's the report . . .

All is OK and we are now at Step 1. I've not heard anything by way of an explanation but my guess is that it took so long to get the second group into the queue (about 2 weeks) that it probably slipped through the crack in the rush.

Thanks for your detailed response. It's a good checklist in case I do it again.

Re: [email protected] doesn't go through

OK. I figured it all out. I was making the "common errors". LOL shamefacedly. I was trying to "invite" from the .io group.
Everything has gone through. Now we are just waiting on the transfer. What is most important to me are the messages. I unchecked all relatively unnecessary options for the transfer as a new set up would be best anyway.

We're hoping our history as a 12 step group can be preserved for sentimental reasons.

Thank you everyone for your patience...don't trip on not catching everything, Frances. I survived. :)
Again, thank you all.

Member unable to access Files

It has to be Premium Yearly. You cannot pay month-by-month if you want to get your transfer done.

Merging existing groups and subgroups

In light of the questions about subgroups, etc. I thought you might like to see a question and answer from Beta. More complex than transferring another YG into a subgroup, of course.

The question:

Is it possible to transfer (and merge) an existing Groups.io subscription into another subscription as follows:
?
1) The main source list would move to a sub-group in the destination subscription.
2) The three source sub-groups would move to respective sub-groups in the destination subscription.
?
Mark replied on Nov 1, 2019:
This is something that I'd have to write code to do. Which means, not until January at the soonest.?

It's been found that you can actually do all at once.? If it were me, I'd set everything up to be completely ready to transfer, but only give the go-ahead for one at a time, if possible.

Check your transfer.? It sounds like you directed the YG transfer to another group when setting it up.? Anyone that's followed the Instructions properly has had no problems.

I have just been told that $220 is required to proceed with the transfer of our Board group. This is to be a sub of our main group. It is about 20 members of our main group who are also the Board of Directors of the organization. We have already paid $220!

I created the sub-group a couple of weeks ago with myself as the sole member. I changed the name of the sub-group to "Board" and went on with the transfer yesterday..

Now the system says we owe $220 more. What can we do to correct the error of misinterpretation of our intent? We have struggled for 2 weeks which may be the reason for the disconnect.
You say "we". I wonder whether it needs to be the same person who paid the $220 initiating the subgroup transfer.

Are you logged in with the same email address?

Can you please double-check the settings for your subgroup? You changed the name. Any anomalies in the settings? It is still a subgroup, I assume.

Have you already deleted the moderator status for [email protected]?from your YG? If not, it should be faster.

Have you double-checked that you are directing the transfer mechanism from the correct YG and sending the copy to the right subgroup?

Frankly, I don't know, but these seem reasonable to double-check! If you don't hear from others today and fi it, I would email support. You are a premium group.

Can you please report back?
