Mea culpa! I didn't notice Teresa's error. It was late, too late last night when I answered.

Okay, you have it now. You must invite [email protected]?to your Yahoo Group. Go to Yahoo Groups to do that. See the screenshots on this page.?

I think recent firsthand experience of the transfer process is invaluable shared knowledge.

Re: Just curious

The details that every part of the service which involves storing users' content will be closed down. All message history will be removed, even digest mode for reading messages, as well as all files and photos and group home pages. All that will remain is a message reflector and a minimal system for managing subscribers to each list.

Actually, the cutoff for uploads was October 28.? Yes, they'll continue groups, but only as an email service,

I suggest you advise them to create or change their updated subscription email address on your group before they veer away from Yahoo Mail.
Otherwise you will have to deal with new subscriptions.?

I just checked the longtime travel group (moved to Groups.io several years ago). Five are bouncing and of those, 4 are Yahoo email addresses. I think that people may have given up on their Yahoo addresses, except for stray subscriptions like this.

So diehards who prefer Yahoo Mail I wouldn't worry about too much yet. It is those who actually don't check their Yahoo mail much anymore that you should target first.

Unfortunately that is exactly what it is. Apart from that, do you think it is fair to expect the moderators to provide the definitive answer to every query that arises?

I'm not saying that they don't know the answers, but look at it this way: posts were running at about 500 per month up to and including September; this jumped to 2756 in October and 3339 in November. OK; that isn't the same number of Topics - by my rough reckoning there were about 600 separate topics in November.

Now IMHO it is rather unreasonable to expect 4 (I think) moderators to provide all the answers to every question raised; apart from anything else any given query probably triggers a supplementary point or two as a topic progresses. Now aside from having private lives away from a keyboard the mods may well have jobs to go to so expecting them to provide all the answers as well as clearing messages for publication is neither reasonable nor realistic.

I may well not be alone in thinking your more or less ignoring comments by non - moderators is rather demotivating; I sincerely hope that your view is not widely held.

And yes; the above is clearly OT but I feel that it has to be said in support of those of us who genuinely try to help others when we know the answers to their questions.

Chris

Except that Yahoo is the email support for AT&T. In fact AT&T has announced "vast improvements in email" which may be the source of the changes in Yahoo group support. Dunno.

I'm a network administrator and I'm telling anyone who will listen to leave Yahoo and either go to Gmail or Outlook. If Yahoo can dump Groups the way they have, I surely wouldn't trust the future of email services.

Re: NEW MEMBER REQUESTs--is there a way to require them write WHY they want to join?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hello,

You can do this through Groups.io.? Scroll down the left side under Admin>Settings>Member Notices.Pending Subscription as type.? Type in whatever message you wish to post.? Be sure and click at the end of the page to save the posting and make it active.

When the group I own used to be on Yahoo, we had a requirement that they state why they wanted to join. It helped to a degree to weed out the wrong people. Can this be set up in IO???

Speaking only for myself, a large percentage of what I know has come from members.? Yes, I do spend time, often too much, verifying things to make sure we have the latest/best/correct information available when questions arise, but in many cases I wouldn't have even thought of looking until someone mentioned a particular situation.? Because Mark has been so responsive to change requests and improvements, it can be difficult to keep up with him sometimes!

Re: [email protected] doesn't go through

Laura Grego

Teresa, FYI I got the same error you did three or four times and then one time it just worked and it all went quickly after that.
I paid and initiated the transfer yesterday morning, and it has now completed.

I tried typing it in manually rather than cut and paste, logging out/back in. I don¡¯t know that these made any difference, and that it isn¡¯t just yahoo being glitchy. But in any case, getting that error doesn¡¯t mean it won¡¯t eventually work.

Re: Email addresses with/without dots

Chris, I'm only reading mods at the moment too, which is not a denigration of anyone elses' knowledge or ability, and I don't think Sandi meant her comments in any derogatory way.? Those of us who come from yahoo gmf have relied on Shal's extensive knowledge of yahoo's glitches and work arounds for years, since neo actually, we've learned to depend on him and trust his knowledge.? Experience counts, and his is the longest and most in depth of anyone's, at least since i've been around.? Mods here are excellent, I take nothing away from any of you, and some members here have extensive experience on .io, everything helps.
Like Sandi, I'm more dependent on the guidance of "experts," it make sense to me.? I know we all appreciate all the input we can get, and the experiences and difficulties of others to learn what to do and what not to do.? You all have "kicked the tires" so for me, are the most helpful in learning the new platform.

Terri

No.? As it says in the instructions, send the invitation to [email protected]? No other characters needed.? Yahoo can be very stubborn about giving errors, but it will eventually work.
