Do Pending Members Expire? #membership #question

I have looked through the Help section, but cannot find an answer. ?I had a pending member that appears to have been deleted by groups.io today after about two weeks. ?Actually I was about to delete that person anyway because I had gotten no response from my private email to that pending member. ?But it appears the groups.io allows two weeks and then automatically deletes the pending member if no further action is taken. ?Is that correct?

Ah yes; in fact I referred to that particular setting in my post above, and my point stands. The default is with that box unchecked and the time interval set to "0" so I think my puzzlement (and Ronaldo's) is not unreasonable.

Chris? ?

So that's the source of the confusion...the pre-populated number. The "default" is actually no locking at all.

We have had some discussion in our group as to whether it should be changed - some say increase, others decrease! ?What do the ¡®experts¡¯ think?
I have my main group set up to lock after 60 days, but that's really rather arbitrary. The main reason that I have it turned on at all is to provide some visual indicator that the sort order has been inverted. This was implemented after a couple of new subscribers posted replies to 8-year-old messages.

There are some fine points of the site that only function well if you have a mouse cursor. Although you can still get around, in that sense it is not totally mobile-friendly; and as Duane said I suspect the app will address much of this when it is eventually rolled out.

Although we don't have all the details, we've found some evidence for certain things.? It seems the biggest factor is whether there is anything added below the quote, such as a reply or even a signature.? In that case, the quote isn't hidden.? Mark has tweaked this several times because similar logic is used for a digest where bottom quotes aren't included at all.

Are you in portrait or landscape mode?? The site uses responsive programming and will adjust what you can see at any time based on the size of the display.? I've found that landscape tends to show much more than portrait, including more options/tools. (I don't have a small device, but can simulate it by shrinking my browser window.)

As far as selecting text to quote, that's a function of the device, not the site.? The options on the site are the speech bubble that is for "Quote Whole Post", and highlighting with the mouse before clicking reply.? A lot of the site works best with a computer and/or a large screen.? The app may improve that, but I wouldn't expect too much due to the limited real estate on small screens.

You can do a?share via the same page, but social logins can only be done via groups.io's own login page at?/login

I can't seem to find the instructions for that.
Select checkboxes in the "Form Options" block until the content of the Preview pane looks like you want it, then paste the html into your site.

Selective quoting is not apparent to all users. Maybe figuring out how to do it depends mostly on the user's system and experience. For example, on my iPad, I don't have access to all the formatting tools that other systems display.?

Here's the process for me:
I get the daily digest summary on my iPad's mail program. It has a blue link. I click on it. It takes me to a webpage (in Safari) of messages. I click the reply button below a person's post and hit "reply to group" when done. The only other option is "discard".?
And then my post displays without being tied in any way to the person I replied to.

I couldn't figure out how some people put the peron and quote in their reply. I don't see any "insert quote" button or option like I see in other forums.?

About 2 days ago, I accidently highlighted one sentance in someone's post because my fingers had rested on the text. When I hit reply to that person,?±¹´Ç¾±±ô¨¤!?The highlighted sentence was in my reply as a quote. I didn't copy or paste it. It just happened to be highlighted when I clicked the Reply button.?

Since then, I have regularly used that feature. If there were "GIO user tips on the day" I would sign up for them. I keep finding "new to me features". Still have a lot to learn.?

For example, I am at the bottom of my message now and scrolling up to the top of my message there is nothing that refreshes my memory of the person I am replying to. Even though I clicked the Reply Button that was below a specific name.

So I have no clue who it is because I forgot to highlight any sentance ?And it's too late to do anything other than search each person's post and then copy the sentence I am posting a reply to (which I just did). It is:?
Richard Moore saying, "I certainly agree with selective quoting, and I wish more people would use it."

This very post is an example of why more people don't use selective quoting. It's not intuitive. Or maybe better said, I didn't find the process to be intuitive on my iPad.

Thanks Duane. So the issue is understanding the behavior of the GIO algorithms. I'll see if I can find a pattern in the examples I've seen.

Re: 'show quoted text' vs showing quoted text

Thanks Chris, I certainly agree with selective quoting, and I wish more people would use it. But when they don't, and the whole thread is quoted in the email, I think 'Show quoted text' is what should be displayed online. It's a drag to have to scroll through multiple pages to get to the next message.?

Re: Yahoo transfer 2 questions

Eshin,

1. When the Yahoo messages are transferred into groups.io
is the date the message date or the date it is imported?
Assuming you are talking about an Easy Yahoo Group Transfer, then the imported message retains its original date. The FAQ and the documents it cites may answer some of your questions:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups

2. If the members are imported there are no passwords.
Correct. Accounts are created for the copied members but no assigned passwords.

Is a password needed to post a message from email?
No. As soon as they are copied over they may begin posting messages by email, subject to the group's moderation and other settings, and subject to their own Posting Privileges (which will have been copied from their Yahoo Group subscription).

They will also begin to receive group messages by email, subject to their subscription settings (which will have been copied from their Yahoo Group subscription).

Is a password needed to access the group's web interface?
They will need to log in in order to access members-only content of the group, but they don't need a password to log in.

Yahoo transfer 2 questions

2. If the members are imported there are no passwords. Is a password needed to post a message from email? Is a password needed to access the group's web interface? Guess I'm asking what functions need a password setup during an invite acceptance.

Kerry -- You can delete a message from the online message archive by selecting "Delete Message" from the More "hamburger menu" at bottom right. As for the corresponding "individual emails," those have already been sent, and there is no way to retrieve them.

Frankly neither am I. I see the default time is 100 days. Default time before what? The default before a thread is either locked or moderated (in Settings, and assuming one or other box is checked) is "zero". For a hashtag the default interval under Topic Duration is Forever.

So please; what is this default time you referred to?

Re: yG Privacy Dashboard download #yahooprivacydashboard #ioimportpl

So, I've experimented...

If I comment out line 218 the import appears to work OK!

The From line is not rewritten. But is it necessary for it to be rewritten? I stopped the import after two messages. These both show the original author email and name in From, and also prepended at top of body of message. I'm assuming no emails were sent because they should have been blocked by the hashtag #mi

What is the benefit of rewriting the From line, and if it is important to do that how do I fix the erroring on line 218?

Thanks

I' m not even sure what you are referring to. A thread ends when nobody contributes to it anymore. Who cares if there's a pause of several months?
