Groups.io uses hashtags.
You can search by hashtag and you can see all the hashtags. Search (use dropdown menu). and /g/GroupManagersForum/hashtags If you click on Topics in this display, it will show you all posts tagged with that hashtag. If you click on Edit, lots of options. And you can stop others from creating new hashtags, In Admin, Settings, Message Policies. - Hashtag Permissions

Thanks for all the continued input!
I didn't initially like the idea of using tags, because I was ideally hoping for a summary page that is easily reviewed / searched.? But Tags might actually work well.? I have to have a talk with some other board members and gauge their feeling.? And also see who in the group might be willing to create / manage the wiki page. When I went looking for the tag function, all I see is Hashtags... https://cas.groups.io/g/groupname/createhashtag Just wanted to make sure whether or not they are one in the same. |

Re: Send email to the group, but not post a message
Thanks, Frances - I see what you mean.
I was unclear on my use case, though.? I have some users who only want to receive email when we published a new song list for our music group.? They don't want to see all the email generated by the Topics/Messages.? If they select 'Special Notice' for their subscription, then the sender can send the message as a Special Notice for the song lists, but the sender has to be an owner or moderator.? I tried creating a hashtag that was enabled for Moderation and Special Notice, reasoning that when a moderator approved it, it would go out as a Special Message, but that doesn't work, unfortunately. - dave - |

Okay, the best subscription option for them would be Advanced Preferences. The user gets only the first email in a thread. If they choose, they can click on follow in the email footer. I have actually set that as Default Sub Settings so anyone who joins my group is set up this way. They can change their subscription preferences, of course. See?/static/help#subscription-options And Muting and Following: /static/help#muting /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Muted-and-Followed-Topics This works best if people actually reply to threads properly. I don't think you can subscribe to hashtags only. An interesting idea. But then people would have to hashtag properly! Delay in giving the go-ahead for transfer
Just to close the loop on this, appended below is some feedback from Mark. I believe this may explain much of what folks have reported today, but not all.
Anyway, glad to hear that things seem to be proceeding as expected for most of you again. FYI, Bruce Mark Fletcher?(Groups.io) Nov 27, 15:03 MST |

I could have them subscribe to Special Notice only, but then an owner/moderator has to send the message. |

I think the issue was a delay from the time that we accepted the invite to join the Yahoo Group till the time that we sent the message telling them we've accepted the invite. Someone else accepts the invites, and I send the messages, so sometimes there can be a delay of up to 12 hours between that.
Hope this helps.
