Re: Transfer NOW

The green button appeared when I checked this afternoon. The transfer is underway and all should be done in due course.

Thanks all, for the input.

Andrew -- If you don't get your requested download (and I never have), I've had pretty good luck with the Chrome browser app found at??. It isolates a range of messages by message number, not by date; but if you go to your Yahoo group and browse through your Conversations you should be able to correlate one to the other.

Caveats:
-- I *think* the resulting file is in the correct mboxrd format mentioned in?, but am not 100% sure.
-- I can provide no affirmation that Mark will subsequently upload them to GIO for you, or what his price point for that might be.
-- If you aren't at least a Moderator of the group, email addresses will be munged, making such an upload impossible.

Bruce,

Wowsers, I never noticed that Advanced section!? Thanks - this might work!

Re: Would like to create a collection of valuable postings / threads #wiki

Groups.io uses hashtags.

You can search by hashtag and you can see all the hashtags.
Search (use dropdown menu).
and
/g/GroupManagersForum/hashtags
If you click on Topics in this display, it will show you all posts tagged with that hashtag.
If you click on Edit, lots of options.

And you can stop others from creating new hashtags,
In Admin, Settings, Message Policies.
- Hashtag Permissions

Re: Would like to create a collection of valuable postings / threads #wiki

Thanks for all the continued input!

I didn't initially like the idea of using tags, because I was ideally hoping for a summary page that is easily reviewed / searched.? But Tags might actually work well.? I have to have a talk with some other board members and gauge their feeling.? And also see who in the group might be willing to create / manage the wiki page.

When I went looking for the tag function, all I see is Hashtags...
https://cas.groups.io/g/groupname/createhashtag

Just wanted to make sure whether or not they are one in the same.

Another possibility - make a subgroup. Perhaps the group members could have the main group as Special Notices and the subgroup where the song lists are published with a broader subscription.

Dave -- You can change their subscription to Following Only, in the Advanced Preferences of each subscription record. However, it would subsequently be up to them to select the hashtags, you cannot set that up for them. They can do this at?/fk

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Send email to the group, but not post a message

Thanks, Frances - I see what you mean.

I was unclear on my use case, though.? I have some users who only want to receive email when we published a new song list for our music group.? They don't want to see all the email generated by the Topics/Messages.? If they select 'Special Notice' for their subscription, then the sender can send the message as a Special Notice for the song lists, but the sender has to be an owner or moderator.? I tried creating a hashtag that was enabled for Moderation and Special Notice, reasoning that when a moderator approved it, it would go out as a Special Message, but that doesn't work, unfortunately.

I could have them subscribe to Special Notice only, but then an owner/moderator has to send the message.
Ah, I see. Okay, the best subscription option for them would be Advanced Preferences.
The user gets only the first email in a thread.
If they choose, they can click on follow in the email footer.

I have actually set that as Default Sub Settings so anyone who joins my group is set up this way. They can change their subscription preferences, of course.

See?/static/help#subscription-options

And Muting and Following:
/static/help#muting

/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Muted-and-Followed-Topics

This works best if people actually reply to threads properly.

I don't think you can subscribe to hashtags only. An interesting idea. But then people would have to hashtag properly!

Delay in giving the go-ahead for transfer

Just to close the loop on this, appended below is some feedback from Mark. I believe this may explain much of what folks have reported today, but not all.

Anyway, glad to hear that things seem to be proceeding as expected for most of you again.

FYI,

Hi Bruce,

I think the issue was a delay from the time that we accepted the invite to join the Yahoo Group till the time that we sent the message telling them we've accepted the invite. Someone else accepts the invites, and I send the messages, so sometimes there can be a delay of up to 12 hours between that.

Hope this helps.
Mark

You can do it online - when you reply, click on Private in the bottom right corner.
You can do it by email, replying using the reply to sender in the email footer.
(Note, that some groups have deleted this option.)

I'd check to make sure they didn't notice and submit a new request before changing it though.? I've seen people do that many times, so I just delete the errant address.

You can sort the invites by clicking on the blue header Status.
You can also tidy up the Sent Invitations by deleting accepted invites. Select the checkbox for those accepted and click on Actions, Cancel/Remove Invite.?
Whilst the Sort options are useful it would be use useful to have both Search to find specific entries and Filter options to restrict the list to specific values (eg Not Confirmed) on all the admin lists Members, Pending, Invites

Re: Table of contents in a wiki #wiki

Frances

i created a template page w/a gio script TOC so member could keep adding separate pages to the wiki and we¡¯d keep the wiki to a (more or less) standard format.?

(the main Wiki page is just a growing ToC using links to the individual pages)

Went very easily once I figured out one issue - I had somehow ended up w/the the ToC in a heading format which really screwed up things. If you still have issues I¡¯d be happy to help.?

Hmmm...?

*.co is a top-level domain for Columbia. I wonder if Yahoo has a subsidiary there?? :-)

More seriously, if you have a Premium group, you should be able to edit the email address, add the missing "m", then send it a new confirmation email. Let us know if you need further guidance on how to perform these actions.
