A weakness of hashtags in this application is that you cannot tag a single message. Hashtags are associated with topics, not messages...so if you want to single out one message within a thread, that won't work.
It may be burdensome, but I really believe the wiki is the best way. As Duane suggested, you don't have to copy the entire message to the wiki, just create a list of topics and hyperlink them back to the original message and/or thread. You can even make this wiki page "sticky" if you want. Bruce |
Override/translate "confirm subscription" message

Hello,
?
I opened a group for people where some of them don't speak English. Hence, I need the possibility to either override, translate or turn off the "Confirm Your Groups.io Subscription" message that new subscribers receive after sending a first registration email Otherwise, people won't reply and never be able to sign up. Which options do I have?

Transfer questions.
#transfer
I'm doing the first of about 5 or 6 Yahoo group transfers.? I followed the process painstakingly.? Sent the invite, once transfer joined, I made it a moderator and updated the transfer job.? All good.? But the status at the top has never changed from "We have received your invite...".? Even after I made it a moderator and after I updated the transfer job.? So, I have no feedback on if we're moving forward or not.?? This is my first of a few of these, and my largest.? Just wondering if I'm being impatient.? The status at the top was pretty good in the initial phases, but I'm not getting anything at the moment.? I haven't seen a button to start the transfer, don't know if there will be one but from the steps, it should just start, as far as I can see.?
Anyone have any suggestions??? Should I just be a bit more patient?? |
Re: What now?
It's the Yahoo membership that has us stymied. An invite hasn't been possible since Yahoo insists that I am already a member. But when I try to do anything I am told I am not authorized . . . the stock answer to "You aren't a member."

Suggestion - ability to search Sent Invitations
In case this enhancement suggestion hasn't already been made, it'd be nice if the Sent Invitations list could be searched for character strings.
Unless I'm missing something, right now I have to navigate page by page, or take a guess on what page a particular entry might be, in order to find something such as the status of a particular invitation. |
Re: Not getting all of my group postings
Richard,
In Apple Mail, for example, if the Sent version of a message youInteresting. Gmail has a similar but more annoying "feature". It will hide the distributed version from your Inbox even if the sent version is in your account's Sent folder (or, I suspect, anywhere). Gmail's "feature" is based on matching the Message-ID field in the message header. Groups.io has a compensating feature to correct for this behavior: when a message you posted from Gmail is sent back to your Gmail address, Groups.io replaces the Message-ID field in the copy distributed to you (but not anyone else). If you are a Gmail user and don't like seeing your distributed copy back in your Inbox you can turn the feature off by unchecking the (misleadingly named) "I always want copies of my own emails" box at the bottom of your Account Preferences page. I mention all of this because perhaps Apple Mail uses the same technique (matching Message-Id) to detect when the Sent version is in the same folder as the Distributed version. If so, and you'd like to work around that Apple Mail feature, you could suggest that the Groups.io feature be extended to Apple Mail. Re: Transfer all except members list from Yahoo
Maria,
I have a premium account in Groups.ioPremium Yearly is required for a transfer, not just monthly. In case you didn't already know that. I want to transfer 4 yahoo groups as sub groups in my main group BUT IHave a look at the screen shot for Step 2 here: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups The checkboxes let you choose what to copy from the Yahoo Group. We want to start fresh groups BUT need to keep the history separate.I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I generally recommend copying the Members as well. If you did include the Members in those transfers, the members copied to a subgroup would automatically be added to the primary group as well (if their address was not already in the primary group). Having the members' email addresses in place in the (sub)group at or before the time of copying content is the only way to ensure that the content (other than messages) has its ownership attributed to the member who owned it in the Yahoo Group. Re: Bug Report: Welcome Email issues with Main Group having Subgroups
Jon,
I checked all that, and everywhere, and it appears the content inOn the group's Settings page, in the Member Notices tab, you should find at least one notice of type Welcome. The one(s) marked Active are sent. The entire body of a Welcome notice is yours to edit, just like a message post. Don't forget to update the Subject text too - it usually has the group posting address in it. Note that each subgroup has its own Settings page, with its own collection of Member Notices. Chris,
Our group would like a way to collect postings and threads that wouldSounds like the intended purpose of hashtags. You may have hundreds of useful posts, but how many different subject matters? If you can come up with a smaller number of categories you can make a hashtag for each category, and then the Hashtags page can be used to find all the topics in any category. The weakness of hashtags is that they are presented on the Hashtags page in alphabetical order - there's no other way to organize them. But you can color-code them and you can give them succinct descriptions. Would messages have to be manually copied/pasted into a wiki entry?Yup. On the other hand, the Wiki has its own advantages, especially when you want to take the information out of the "in the moment" context typical of messages and re-author it as a reference work. A short description and link would work. That's another advantage of a wiki: you can mix those two methods (purpose-written articles and message citations) on an as-needed, or as convenient, basis. GMF's wiki has many examples of this both on its home page and in the content of other pages. But I think it is unquestionable that a wiki will take more effort to set up and maintain than a curated collection of hashtags, possibly /much/ more effort. Dennis,
For one brief moment this morning, my yahoo group gave me permissionIf you are getting the "an error occurred while loading the content" message, try the Browser ritual: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19411 If you are actually a member, or moderator without the needed privileges, then the ritual may not help. Worse, you face another hurdle: promoting the transfer address to moderator. As a Y!Group moderator you need both of these two Privileges in order to complete Steps 3 and 4 of the transfer instructions: |_| Invite and add members |_| Add, remove, and change moderator privileges Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Would like to create a collection of valuable postings / threads
#wiki
Hi
Our group would like a way to collect postings and threads that would be particularly valuable to have available for easy reference at any point in time. I know you can make posts sticky, but after a few years I foresee us having hundreds of these posts, and I think that's an excessive number of stickies. I thought maybe the WIKI would be a good way to do this.? But I don't see any kind of automatic connection between postings and wiki pages. Would messages have to be manually copied/pasted into a wiki entry?? That would would be very tedious. Is there another way to best accomplish my goal? |
