Re: Pricing Too High, Storage Too Low, for groups.io
Bob,
If you think that the pittance Premium and Enterprise groups pay forThat's not what Mark himself says. He has stated a couple of times that Groups.io is already operating in the black and he expects that to get stronger over time. I wouldn't be surprised if that statement excludes compensation to himself - that he may consider his "sweat equity". Yet we insistently yammer that we need and are entitled to more!Ginny's proposal, and mine, is that groups that want more pay for it. I don't propose it as an entitlement or charity, I'm hopeful that Mark can set a price for extra storage that covers its direct and indirect costs, with money left over to contribute to the support of free (basic plan) services and Groups.io as a whole. Re: Unlike button
Drew,
As for rarely bothering to look for it, that is the current situation.I'm hoping that the long-awaited "notification overhaul" will include an option to receive an email notification when someone likes (or unlikes) a message of yours. Right now the likes have too little visibility on the web as well. Which is one of the reasons I've proposed "has likes" (among others) as a message filter to go with the existing date range filter. But the more complete solution for the web is that a like on one of your messages (or other content) should be in your online list of notifications, however that is presented. Shal |

And email-only readers wouldn't see either. Re: Unlike button
Having an email mechanism for Like and Unlike is a separate issue.
As for rarely bothering to look for it, that is the current situation. Having a balanced system (Like & Unlike), however implemented, might at least prove more engaging to users. 73, Drew AF2Z On 10/26/17 04:06, Dave Sergeant wrote: Unless it was included in the email versions as well it would be pretty[excess quote trimmed by moderator] |

J_Catlady
There is no unlike button in many media for the simple reason that it can get nasty. I would not want an unlike button in groups.io.

Thank you for asking, Shal
If you? think that the pittance Premium and Enterprise groups pay for the services we all receive, you are wrong. We are Mark's favorite charity? and he works full time for our benefit, as a volunteer Mark has given us so much for absolutely no charge; more than available anywhere else for our needs. Yet we insistently yammer that we need and are entitled to more!? more! more! I WOULD SO TOTALLY UNLIKE THIS ENTIRE CONVERSATION. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation active i |

Re: Unlike button
I brought this up over 2 years ago in beta@ when the Like function was first introduced. There was a lot of discussion, but I don't think a final decision on any changes was ever made. I now find myself using Like to agree with a post instead of a 'me, too' or 'thanks' post being needed, but I'd still like to see alternatives.

Unlike button
Actually, it would be quite useful to have an unlike button. Why only a thumbs up? There should be a thumbs down also.
Clicking thumbs down would cancel one thumbs up. Every post would be a poll, with the final tally registering a democratic judgement yay or nay. This would be a little more participatory for people who don't want to post a negative comment but would nevertheless like to register an opinion a little stronger than the only current alternative, namely to ignore. I was actually going to get in touch with Mark to ask him if he wouldGo ahead, beta@ is the official place for suggestions. I also sort of hate to complain, because of all of the great thingsI don't think Mark would take it as a complaint, unless you phrase it as one. He might even be gratified to know that people are willing to pay for such an option. I also think that there are a lot of other Basic groups that wouldAgreed. I think you'll get a lot of support (including mine). Shal |

Re: Calender
Cathy,
Hi. How do I add events to the calender so that they go to group onTo create a new event just click in the calendar. If you're looking at it in Month the event will be "all day" by default. Otherwise the event will default to the time you clicked on. In the Event page that opens you can adjust the date, time, and various features of the event. On that page where you create/edit the event, check the box "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens". I think it is checked by default. That will post a message to the group at the date & time of the event (Midnight the night before, if it is an all-day event). If you want to give members advance warning of the event click the Add Reminder button. There you can schedule reminders that will post in advance of the event. Shal |
