Re: Not getting all of my group postings

In Apple Mail, for example, if the Sent version of a message you posted ends up in the same folder with the distributed version of that posting, then Mail will sometimes only display one of them. If it displays the one you Sent, then it appears that the distributed version never arrived. In the case of Apple Mail the solution is to keep the Sent message in the Sent folder and the distributed message in your Inbox. Then both are available, the distributed one having group.io headers.?

Re: Max size of file to upload

Bruce: thanks for your input.
The precise wording on the message we received from the site was:?"file too large, was not uploaded"
Maybe, as you say, it may have timed out, but I believe when that happens you don't get the "file too large" notice.
We will try using a better connection. I am still puzzled to find out if there is a file size limitation.
Thanks again.

Re: Problem with Attachment in Pending Message #bug #question #messages

Ann,

But below that was a mini version of the flyer that had the word
"delete" as an apparent option. But clicking on that delete in the
edit mode did nothing.
It did nothing visible in the edit, but had you approved the message at that point I believe the posted message would have had an empty area where the flyer should have appeared. I think you could have seen this result by clicking Save (not Save & Approve) and then re-opening the message.

In order to avoid having an empty spot you could also delete the image from the body of the message.

If you deleted the image in the message body, but didn't delete it as an attachment, then it would have gone out as an attachment, but not showing in the message body.

Re: Can't turn off "new users moderated"

Joan,

So this is a difference between a group that was transferred from
Yahoo and one that wasn't.
New Users Moderated is the default for any new Groups.io group.

There is a difference in the members, however. The members copied from a Yahoo Group retain the Posting Privilege they had in the Yahoo Group, whereas the members who join the Groups.io group by other means are initially set to a Posting Privilege controlled by the New Users Moderated checkbox.

if the "new members require approval" setting is on, does that
apply to members who join via invite?
As Duane said, the invitation constitutes approval to join the group.

Re: Problem with Yahoo Group

My groups are already transferred. I was just trying this to see if it would work for others wanting to transfer.? This address I added also already has a Yahoo ID.? Maybe why I was able to promote this other Me.

Re: Problem with Yahoo Group

Shai and Mark,?
My invite did not go through yesterday! I tried again and added my other email address to the group by checking the add only to email.list. This time I got an invite and accepted it.? It took me to the website and said it had expired, but the email address was added as a member. It is AOL but already attached to a Yahoo id.

I went to.the membership list and promoted it to moderator.? So Mark and group owners can use this work around to.get access for transfers! ? It works!

Re: Owner Status

Steven,

My plan was to migrate the owner email from my Yahoo account to this accounts but, while this account has moderator access (moderation messages show in the inbox for this account)

When logged in to look at the Home button on your group. That will tell you your role in the group. What you hope to see is the Owner badge:

image.png
Also take a look at the upper right corner, and click on your name to check which email address you used to log in:
image.png

Keep in mind that every subscribed email address at Groups.io is a separate account, as far as Groups.io is concerned a separate person.

& the original Yahoo account seems to have no special access.?

So log in with the original Yahoo address. and see what it says. Most likely nothing because the role you had in the Yahoo Group doesn't transfer over when the address is copied into your Groups.io group. The Email Delivery, Posting Privileges, and Join Date do, but not the Role. So transferred addresses always start as a plain member.
Any suggestions as to how to get ownership again & has anyone heard of a similar issue??

Whatever account (email address) you were using when you created the Groups.io group became its owner at that time, and it (or another) must have been owner in order to run the transfer. So that's the place to look first.

I am assuming that I made some sort of mistake & simply do not recall it.

Maybe. About the only mistake you could have made that might remove your Owner role would be to merge your account with that role into another account that does not have that role. Which you might have been tempted to do thinking to consolidate your group memberships under the single account which was your Yahoo owner email.
At this?point I still have the Yahoo account that was the owner of the group prior to the migration (plus the prior owner of the Yahoo group & handed it over on the Yahoo side) which should help verify my identity.?

Your credentials on the Yahoo side mean essentially nothing on the Groups.io side. The only thing they're good for is to enable you to carry out the invite and promote of the transfer agent in your Yahoo Group. Unless you're planning another transfer that's not important now.

The invitee's won't become members until they accept the invitation. That's still true when you check that box.

If it did, could use that as an in by owners being able to add and then? promote to moderator.
I don't think it matters whether you check that box when inviting the transfer address - it is already connected to a Yahoo account. So go ahead that way, if it works for you.

In groups.io, this usually means you are not logged in, or are logged in with the wrong email address. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Group-Content-Is-Missing

The other possibility is that you demoted yourself, or someone else did. Have the other Owner promote you again (change the Role field in your member record).

If the problem is with your Owner status in the Yahoo group, I cannot help you with that.

Good luck,

Re: Bulk folder upload failing - undergoing maintenance

Solved it. It was not a timeout (at least only partially), but a restriction without messaging. The files section restricted photos - they must be uploaded to the photos section.

I did not see the photo restriction error though when trying to push a large number of files (I tried 182, 150, 100 ,75), but once I tried to push a smaller number of files (25), I got the photos section restriction error. Pushing all 182 photos in one batch worked just fine when pushing them to a photo album.

My guess is that there is a backend bug or a UI oversight in how the photos section restriction is handled when pushing a large number of files - after a certain quantity, batch size, or _timeout_, the photos restriction error is not displayed in the UI or bubbled up client side. That is why a similar size batch upload worked in another group - the restriction was not in place.

Anyways, problem solved, but kinda frustrating. How do I open a bug report or enhancement request?

Ruth -- I already gave you the answer to this in message #24753. For your convenience I am pasting the corresponding section of that web page below. Follow the instructions and change the Current Default entry for MAILTO links from Windows 10 Mail to Outlook and you should be set.

Bruce

The following was cut-and-pasted from?

There¡¯s nothing you need to configure if you have decided to stick with the mail client that came bundled with your operating system. But if you use a third-party email client like Thunderbird [or Outlook], you can set that as the systemwide default for everything to do with email. Here¡¯s how you can do that on the top three desktop?operating systems.

On Windows 7 through 10, first go to?Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Associations?and click on?Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Now scroll down to the?Protocols?section, look for the?MAILTO?row, and double-click on it.

You¡¯ll then be able to select an email client of your choice (provided you have already installed it on your computer) from the popup that appears. You¡¯ll also find an option to get an email app from the Windows Store and immediately associate it with mailto: links from the popup.

But it is not showing that email address I added.

Some one mentioned above nothing happens when they click on conversations, I had to refresh the browser several times between copying the last of my messages from that group.? But I delete the messages as I copy and paste so thought that might be why.? Have not checked my other groups. We no longer use them.

Aha! That's the problem. She needs to make you a moderator. You are already a member.

Re: How do I reply to message in Digest Mode?

Ah! Thank you for clarifying that.

What it's?supposed to do is
--Open that new mail window
--Create a new mail item
--Insert the proper [mygroup]@groups.io address
--Insert the proper Subject (same Topic)
Move the Insertion Pointer into the body

This is done (hover your cursor over the "Reply to Group" link and look at the bottom of the screen) by the URL associated with "Reply to Group", which looks like this:
mailto:[email protected]&Subject=MyTopic

Your mail isn't quite configured right, so the window opens, but the rest of the info (To, Subject) is not honored. How you do this depends on what application you use for mail.

Re: How do I reply to message in Digest Mode?

Ruth D,

I'm not sure why Reply to Sender, or Reply to Group doesn't open a reply, but opens a new mail window where I get to see all my mail.?

It should open a message composition window in your email interface, with the To and Subject fields filled in. That's basically all it can do given the limitations of a mailto link (which is what those are).

If it isn't opening a new message composition, but is just opening your email Inbox, that's something about how your default email is configured on your computer or device.

Yes, I can go to groups.io, find the message I want to reply to and type a reply, as I am doing here. Just don't understand why there's a Reply to sender option, if it's not usable.?

There's not a hard limit (other than storage space), but trying to upload too much at once may lead to timeout of the connection, depending on site loading.? When that happens, you may get the maintenance screen.? (I always do.)

Re: Problem with Yahoo Group

Janis,

I believe Yahoo has purposely disabled invites. To prevent transfers?
I suspect Hanlon's razor applies here: more blunder than malice.

Sometimes the results vary with the browser you're using. When Firefox gets stuck I try Edge, and vice-versa.

As a test yesterday I tried to invite another of my email addresses.
But I could add myself to the email list.
If you mean the "Add only to mailing list" checkbox on the Invite Members page, I believe that will be the only way going forward. Absent that check, the invitation is designed to guide the invitee to sign in with or create a Yahoo Account - which will no longer serve any purpose in the email-only future of Yahoo Groups.

Except for mods/owners, but they'll have to manage some other way (membership wizard?).

Got a sorry and an error message.
Seeing a lot of that today, much more than usual. Just have to try again.

If all we can do is add to the email list and we cannot even see a
list of members ...
The Manage Members list is still working in my Yahoo Groups. Slowly. In between glitches.

... and apparently they cannot email the group!?
Posting and receiving by email seems to be working smoothly.

Another change--we can no longer post from the yahoo Groups message
board. Have not tried an email to see if it shows up on the board.
We're not supposed to be able to post from the group's pages since Oct 28th. But I'm still able to do so.

Bulk folder upload failing - undergoing maintenance

I am trying to upload a large folder of folders of files (attachments from an old yahoo group). It contains 182 files, mostly pictures.

The upload completes but then the following message is displayed:
Groups.io is currently undergoing maintenance. We apologize for the downtime, and expect to be back shortly.
The folders have all been transferred but none of the files have been. I don't know if there is actual maintenance taking place as I was able to upload another bulk of 150 attachments to another group at the same time I was attempting to do so with the transfer in question.

  • Are there characters that are unsupported for filenames/directory names?
  • Is there a max file quantity or upload size that is causing issues?
  • Is groups.io currently under maintenance?
  • Help?

Thanks bunches.
