Unless you choose to reply online, that's the way it works.? You're sending a reply email to the group or sender.

In the interim, just go to the website to post. It's not as if you've been entirely muted.

I am quite sure that members who join via invite are controlled by new members are moderated if it is checked. If your group is restricted, you don't have to have that box checked. Be sure to save any changes. The Update Group button is a long way down on that page!

Invites are dealt with differently in one way - if you have a pending subscription notice that is active to vet new members, those that you invite don't receive that notice. It is assumed that you have pre-approved them as the right fit for your group.

Actually, Stage 1 & 2 are the current bottlenecks due to the problems with Yahoo.? Even when GIO can connect, they can't always get the information.

No, an invitation assumes that you've already vetted the member, so no moderation occurs.

Thank you for your reply.? I did export my member list so I'll do the manual invitation to all of the current members if it doesn't resolve in a few days.

Okay. So this is a difference between a group that was transferred from Yahoo and one that wasn't. Re the spam settings, I sent out a lot of invites - if the "new members require approval" setting is on, does that apply to members who join via invite?

Thanks for clearing that up and sorry for not RTFMing thoroughly enough.?

Spam Control -
?
You must choose from among these four options. At least one of these options must be set as a spam-control measure.
?
Restricted Membership - Moderators must approve any new subscribers.
Announcement Group - Only Owners and Moderators are allowed to post.
Moderated - ALL messages are held pending moderator approval before being sent to the group.
New Users Moderated - Messages from new subscribers are held pending moderator approval. After the set number of consecutive messages are approved, the subscriber is automatically unmoderated.
If you choose Restricted only, you do not need to moderate ANY messages, if you wish. But you will have to approve new subscribers. There is no Spam Control setting that will allow a new subscriber to join your group without approval and immediately post an unmoderated message.

See this link about unmoderating everybody.

Can't scroll through attachments on digest sometimes

This has been reported by members and I have seen it as well. On Full Digest, when there are a few pictures as attachments, sometimes clicking on one (so it becomes large) allows you to see the other pictures by clicking a little arrow on the side. Other times, each picture needs to be clicked open on its own, can't scroll through them all, no arrow shows. Any ideas as to why this happens? Perhaps something to do with how they are attached??
Attachment size is unlimited on my group, and I am viewing these digests all on the same device, a PC.?
Thanks!
Sally
PS - thank you Bruce for your clear explanation of my last question :)

Re: How do I reply to message in Digest Mode?

In trying to reply to a message in Full Digest it says:?Do not reply to this email. To reply to a message, click the Reply link under the message.
I'm working in Outlook and when I click either Reply to Group or Reply to Sender, it opens Windows Mail. So I tried opening the digest mail there, clicked on Reply to Group and it opened another Windows mail window. I tried this a number of times.? What am I doing wrong???D

Hi Ruth,

Yes, the digest has Do not reply to this email. To reply to a message, click the Reply link under the message.

And when you scroll down to a message, each message should have a few reply options, including View/Reply Online.
This should be there for each message: View/Reply Online | Reply To Group | Reply To Sender | Mute Topic | Top ^ | New Topic

So you can read or reply online, if you prefer. Or click for that specific message and reply by your email.

There might be another issue because of Outlook. Someone else might have more info.

But in the meantime, hope this helps!

From the wiki:
Note: although there are many rules, the default for (almost) all of them is not to cause a message to be moderated ¡ª a group admin must enable each rule before it applies to any messages.
?
An exception is New Users Moderated, which is the default Spam Control setting when a group is created. Another exception occurs for group members copied in by the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer feature: those members are initially given the Posting Privilege they had in the Yahoo Group.

You can reduce the required spam control moderation to 1 post in Admin, Settings, Spam Control. Be sure to scroll down and Update Group to make any changes stick.

And this from the wiki page:

How do I know who is specifically moderated?
In the members list there may be badges after the display of each member's email address; some badges relate to moderation and when present these indicate that the member has an override to the group's Moderated checkbox. See Status Badges in the Members List for a list of the badges. In a new group the NuM (New User Moderated) is the only moderation badge that is likely to appear, all of the rest must be manually assigned to the member by a group owner or moderator.
?
Note: particularly long email addresses my cause badges to be hidden by the next column (Delivery). in such cases you may need to widen the display window, or zoom out, to make the badges visible.
?
Each member's Posting Privilege setting may override the group's Moderated checkbox. See the Member Controls and Group Controls sections below for more detail.

You might be lucky and Groups.io has already copied your group.?

However if the glitches were too bad and nothing has happened, then you need to talk about plan B.?

Frankly I don¡¯t know if the migration happened or not. Perhaps wait a day or two.?

You could ask Yahoo for a copy of your messages. You could get your members¡¯ list. ?

But first: ?

b) For transfers that are actually approved and in progress, see where you are in the queue:

When you go to edit your transfer, if it's been submitted for transfer, you'll now see one of these 4 status lines:

  • Your group is awaiting export from Yahoo. [Stage 1 of 4]
  • Your group is being exported from Yahoo right now. [Stage 2 of 4]
  • Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io. There are about N groups ahead of it in the queue. [Stage 3 of 4]?**
  • Your group is being imported into Groups.io right now. [Stage 4 of 4]

**?Where N in Stage 3 is an estimate as to where you are in the queue. i.e.?Your group is about 70th in the queue right now.

Stage 4 is the biggest bottleneck, as only so many groups at a time can be imported without overloading the system. There's no estimate as to how long each group takes to be imported, because each group is different (how many photos, how many messages, etc).

Can't turn off "new users moderated"

Hi all,

For some reason, on one of my groups, the "New users moderated" setting is on and won't let me turn it off. When I click the checkbox, the check doesn't go away.

Any advice?

Thanks!
-Joan

Re: YG outage

Same here - I upgraded my group on Friday and attempted to start the transfer process.? I did receive confirmation that [email protected] joined my group, but there has been no status update on my transfer page.? It's a little frustrating after upgrading specifically for this purpose.? I'm not sure if I should start sending emails manually to have people join the group?

Failing to Receive [Some] Group Messages

It sometimes happens that you fail to receive some or all group messages (i.e.: via email).?Here are some things to check:

On the Groups.io side:
  • Are the missing posts listed in your account's Recent Bounces page? NO
  • Are they listed in the Email Delivery History tab of your Subscription in that group? YES
  • Were they posted to a Topic that you have muted? NO
  • Is your account in Bouncing or Bounced status? NO
  • Is your?Email Delivery?set to?Individual Messages? YES
  • Is your?Message Selection?(under Advanced Preferences) set to?All Messages? YES
  • Do the missing posts contain a hashtag that has the?No Email?property? NO
  • Do the missing posts contain a hashtag that you have muted? NO
On your email interface:
  • Have you set a filter that blocks or redirects some (or all) group messages? NO
  • Are the group messages landing in your Spam?(or Trash or other junk)?folder? NO
  • If you're using an email client on a PC or mobile device, have you checked the spam folder of your service's Webmail interface? YES

I don't get these messages in both my desktop PC or my mobile phone!
I have had similar problems with Yahoo groups not delivering all my group's postings.

Sincerely;
Edward Borg

I am trying to create a table of contents.
This was my first time ever at creating a Wiki and I didn't find a lot of GIO info to guide me as a "newbie" in this.?
I suppose I took a cumbersome route as I attempted to figure it out.?

But for what it's worth, here is how I set up the wiki TOL in our group:
1. Created the first "major" page. Copied the URL.

2. Returned and created a TOL page (home/index). Then pasted the URL into it, linked to a text of the Major Page Title, not just left as a displayed URL.?

I decided my own font size, line spacing, and formating instead of using coding formats discussed in Shal's reply.
At some point, I ended up pasting the partially completed TOL into Pages (Mac equivalent of Word) and then I played with formating and organizing. When satisfied, I copied it back to the TOL page which preserved all my formatting. ?
I ended up using a Roman Numeral format for our TOL page and I moved the URLs around under I got the order that I liked.?

3. Repeated the process for each additional "major" page.?

4. Then I built a side bar.?

I set the TOL and Major pages editing so that only the myslef and the owner can edit it. The other linked pages can be edited by members.?

I have 8 Major topic pages and they in turn have 0 to 2 subpages. I can foresee that as more wiki pages are added, it might become difficult in the drop down menu to figure out if all the pages are linked to one of the Major Page- the ones I listed in the TOL.

It went fairly fast. Took 30-60 minutes over the course of 3-4 days to create a 20 page linked wiki.?

Re: clickable links

Ronaldo,
?
Assuming she used the groups.io messages editor to create that message, it must had been how she typed the link; if she didn't use the http or www prefix, the clickable link will not automatically inserted. ?
?
To see what I mean, type cnn.com and press enter or space, nothing will happen, but add www.?or http:// in front of it, go to the end and press Enter or space, and the text will automatically be formatted with the link. ?
?
The other way of making a link clickable is to?highlight the text link and click on the hyperlink icon on the?groups.io?message editor, she may have forgotten to do this.
?
Yet another way this can happen is if she copied and pasted a well-formatted link but it was text-only, like from a text file or something, and then moved somewhere else in the message body; you have to go to the end of the pasted link and press enter or space in order for the clickable line to auto-insert. ?(in contrast copying and pasting already-formatted links from another non text-only app, liker your web browser, will create the clickable link regardless, you don't have to do anything in that case)
?

Cheers,

Christos
