Pricing Too High, Storage Too Low, for groups.io
JMichaelTX
While the groups.io service is a good one, IMO the storage limits are way too low, and the pricing way too high.
Anyone else have this view? Over time the $/GB have gone down with the other Cloud vendors. I wonder if we can expect this with groups.io? At first I loved the features of groups.io, but now as we are really starting to use it, and to develop a wiki, the storage limits, and corresponding pricing, have given me pause.? Storage is obviously very cheap these days, so the groups.io limits/pricing seem inappropriate to me.? I am concerned about getting started with a wiki, and then running out of storage space. Of course, since we are on the basic/free plan, I can't really complain that much.? I'd be happy now if the free limit was raised to, say, 5-10 GB. groups.io Pricing:

I find the potential? results of any such search frightening and fear it would be meaningless info
With 155,000 messages and well over 3000 members, a global search would simply generate far too large a load of garbage that no one could possilby use in our group -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |
Is There a Search Option to Include All Sections (Messages, Wiki, Files, etc)?
#search
JMichaelTX
Hi,? I did quite a bit of searching here, could not find an answer to my question.
Is there a way to search everything in the group/subgroup, not just messages? This means including, in the same search, all of the sections of the group:? Messages, Calendar, Photos, Files, Databases, and Wiki (especially wiki). For my subgroup (), we will have important information in both messages and wiki.? While it is nice to have a wiki-only search, we very much need to have a search that covers everything, or at least an option to select which sections should be included. Thanks. |
JMichaelTX
We have started build a wiki for our subgroup:
? However, I'm very concerned that nothing in the wiki, not even the title itself, is found by a Google search. The wiki is set for public viewing.? We want the wiki to be a great resource for JXA, for everyone, not just our members. So, can this be fixed?? If so, how? If not, then we may need to reconsider where we want our group, or at least where we want our wiki. |
Database sort problem
I'm having a problem sorting our database by clicking on the column titles. The only one that works as expected is the ID column. The others give the following error:
template: grouptable.html:262:19: executing "grouptable.html" at <index (index $.Colum...>: error calling index: index out of range: 2 I think all the column sorts worked earlier, but not sure. Drew |
Groups.io site updates
#changelog
Hi all,
This week's change log: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. * Launched new search! This is the big one. Long anticipated, and hopefully a lead-in to more search/filter features (my list beta@ #14955). Though Mark may want to take a breather from Search for a while. * When viewing a database row, there's now a permalink icon/link for the row. Yay! On the path towards permalinks for all user contributions... * New hashtag options: Locked, which creates a topic and locks it immediately, and Replies Unmoderated, which for moderated groups, allows all replies to be unmoderated (excepting people who are specifically moderated). For when you absolutely positively want to have the first and last word, and for when it's "let your hair down" time? Ok, that latter falls under the category "just because I can't imagine a use case for it doesn't mean that one doesn't exist". Comments about these others are also welcome: NEW: When viewing an event, there's now a 'Download Event' button which will download an ICS file for just that event. NEW: Support for +sub and +unsub email commands. INTERNAL: When importing Yahoo Groups, check for bogus Yahoo email addresses. BUGFIX: Some reports of ICS files not being parsed correctly. I re-worked how the timezones were specified to hopefully fix the problem. CHANGE: Pull larger pictures from Facebook pages. BUGFIX: Subject sort in overall Topics view was not working. INTERNAL: Re-wrote the Postgres to ES streaming connection to not use Kafka, which was proving to be unreliable. INTERNAL: Re-wrote a part of the monitoring system for efficiency and to make it easier to maintain. Please call out any you find significant. Shal |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýShal,I realized it was an over-simplification but worried that people would go off on the (terrible) idea to make all replies to special notices a special notice.;) I like your suggestions at first glance but would have to think a little about both.? J,
Just to clarify, in case there is any confusion here: the suggestion was NOT to "make Special Notice replies also Special Notices."?My suggestion was to create a hashtag sub-option, under the the special-notice hashtag option, which would make topics with that hashtag?have replies to it be special notice.?Right, I oversimplified my statement. I also see a related feature request: to add the "Send this message as a special notice" checkbox to the Reply composition window - if you're a moderator. And maybe only if the topic is already a special notice, but I'm less sure of that. Shal |
Re: Special notices
Sarah,
If we all do in different way sor send them to support as well, thatFeel free to chime in, but it is probably best if the idea can kept to a single topic (thread) in beta@ so that Mark doesn't have to keep track of separate threads. To me this feels more like a feature request than a bug report, so I wouldn't recommend going to support. Shal |

Re: Special notices
Frances,
The emailed special notice doesn't show that it is special notice. There's the difficulty of choosing a marking that is acceptable and intuitive for all groups. Perhaps a second subject tag could be added, e.g. "[GMF][Special]". Absent that it is pretty much up to the group admins to establish and follow a convention for their group. I've often seen ADMIN: used as a subject line prefix for special notices. Are Special Notices held for later delivery like the digest? Not supposed to be, it should go immediately as ordinary postings do. And speaking of Digests - members set to digest receive the Special Notice immediately also, as a separate email (possibly also included in the Digest, I'll find out later). can you click in the email footer to follow a thread that is sent asInteresting question. The message has the standard footer - with the default subscription settings that means it has a link to mute the topic, but not one to follow it. However if in your Subscription, under Advanced Preferences, you've chosen Following Only then the footer has a link to follow the topic (instead of mute it). But it isn't effective because the replies are not themselves special notices - apparently the Special Notices requirement supersedes the Follow. Until or unless the feature, recently discussed in beta@, to make Special Notice replies also Special Notices is implemented. So, maybe we should suggest: 1) That following a special notice topic should supersede the requirement that the replies also be Special Notice. 2) That subscribers set to Special Notice default to Following Only behavior rather than All Messages (since they clearly do not get All Messages). Special notices
Hi
An issue and a couple of questions. ?
The emailed special notice doesn't show that it is special notice. That would be a good thing so that group members aren't asking why they are getting email from the group. (BTW, I am owner of the test site I used so yes, I am allowed to send special notices.)
?
Questions: Are Special Notices held for later delivery like the digest? (Day end or a specific number of posts or ??) I would prefer Special Notices to go out sooner, but either way, I would like to know! I was testing this but haven't received the email yet so I am asking - can you click in the email footer to follow a thread that is sent as special notice if you are set to Special Notice only? Thanks. Frances |
