Re: Group Not Listed in Public Directory

It's slightly difficult to comment in detail without knowing the name of your groupAh; your group is publicly listed; it is this one, and is the second one in the search return that I linked in my previous post. However, this has revealed another bit of weirdness in the way the A - Z list of groups is set out. By way of example the "A" list sets out all the groups with an upper case A first, and once it has exhausted those it starts again with a list starting with a lower case a. It is not truly alphabetical; this may be something for beta once the hue and cry has subsided. Chris |
Which "custom Welcome notice" will the transfer agent use?
Hello
1. I created two welcome notices already -- one for the members who join via the Yahoogroups transfer and one to be used later for members who join in the usual way. I marked the YG one as "active" and the other one as non-active. Will that active notice then be sent to members who are added from the Yahoogroup? 2. What other information is included in the message that is sent to members who have been moved? Can I see an example of such a message anywhere, please? Thanks Samuel |

On the other hand, the .csv file exported by Sam Hobbs' chrome add-in includes a multitude of metadata columns, including a memberStatus column that indicates BOUNCED or CONFIRMED for each member. The "members" information from IgnoredAmbience's scripts also include all this information, although at present in JSON format, not CSV. And converting it to CSV using e.g. AutoIt is slightly beyond my abilities since not every entry has the same fields, and I don't know how many possible different fields there are. For example: { "yid": "myname", "bounceStatus": "HARDBOUNCING", "date": 988559966, "postingStatus": "DEFAULT", "yalias": "myname", "emailPreference": "NONE", "userId": 52339488, "fileAccess": true, "subscriptionStatus": "NORMAL", "deliveryType": "NONE", "bounceDate": 1094362187, "isEmailHidden": false, "index": 0, "memberStatus": "BOUNCED", "email": "121324.5476@..." }, Samuel |

Bouncing and Yahoo Addresses
#bouncedemails
Was just going through the list of people hard bouncing in one of my groups. Ironically, the majority of them seem to be Yahoo addresses with a 554 code. Anybody have any ideas why this is?

Group Not Listed in Public Directory
For some reason our group - antique radios - is no longer listed under .io's Publicly Listed Groups. It appeared when the group was first created a couple of weeks ago but disappeared soon afterward. Messages are publicly visible and Admin Privacy Visibility is set to "Group listed in directory, publicly viewable messages."
Might there be another setting somewhere that I'm missing? -Thanks |

Re: How to use the wiki option
Well, visit the GMF wiki to see how we use it.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home On a travel group that I belong to, we use it for a links library. On another group, we used it for planning a trip. Basically it is a mini version of Wikipedia! Do with it whatever you wish. Usually pages are editable by all members but you can lock pages. Re: For a group discussing medical info
Brian Jennings
Thank you Duane!
Yes, HIPAA (not HIPPA)? All I meant by that is: Doctor tells a family member something Family member needs to tell the Team something No lawyer needed.? You know how things like chemo work, you spend 2 days in the hospital, then have an insane regimen of pills to do at home. And it goes: pill X every 4 hours for 3 days then stop, pill Y is every 6 hours for 5 days then stop. ? Pill Z starts 3 days after hospital chemo every 8 hours.? Pain meds as needed but not to exceed 4 in 24 hours..?? So yes, the private messaging is the way to go.? BJ |

If possible, you might use the name of your group for the company name. If you (or anyone else) does set this up, detailed information (without private details) posted here would probably help others later. When setting it up, what should I put for the company info, if I don¡¯t work for a company, same thing for the address, and phone number? Should I just put my home address and my cell phone number?Yes, that's what you should do. I started a wiki page on this. Re: For a group discussing medical info
BJ -- I will assume that most of these questions are rhetorical and all you really want to know here is what's going on with the private archives warning.
Private archives means that those messages are visible only to subscribers. In stark contrast, a public archive can be read by anybody. And when I say anybody, I mean anyone in the world who finds the URL. For example, the archives here in GMF can be read by ANYONE. You don't need to be subscribed to GMF...you don't even need to have a groups.io account. I've even found some of the posts indexed in search engines. Understandably, many people might be reluctant to post things to a public group, even if it doesn't involve a sensitive issue like medical privacy. That's why the privacy setting is displayed on your group's home page. And that's also why once you make your group private, you cannot make it public again. It is a breach of trust -- and may not even be legal -- to tell people that their posts will be restricted to a limited audience, only to have the group Owner later betray that trust by changing his mind. Hope this helps, Bruce |

So "open" and "private" are the areas of confusion. The words should be Public and Private.? For a group with Public archives, anyone that goes to the group page can read the messages, as /g/updates With Private archives, you must be a member of the group and logged in before you can read them, as /g/Rialta I'm sure you'll want it Private.? You can have it listed in the Directory without a problem as long as you don't reveal anything that should be private on the Home page. As far as discussing HIPAA covered conversations, that would need to be determined by a lawyer.
