Re: Identifying a Premium list

How about a feature like Direct Add. It is visible in your admin panel, in Invite.
Since I don't have access to Admin for a premium or enterprise group, I can't see it. But it is in the wiki -?

Re: Identifying a Premium list

The pricing page from Groups.io says:

What Happens If I Go Over My Storage Limits?
We send you a warning when you've reached 80% of your storage limit. You can configure your group to either bounce messages when you've reached your storage limit, or to automatically delete old attachments to keep you under the storage limit. Photos and files are never automatically deleted.

Source:?/static/pricing

And messages themselves don't count towards your storage.

Re: Identifying a Premium list

Ken -- Old attachments are only deleted automatically if you have it set up that way (Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Out of Space). And to be honest, I'm not even sure that works correctly.
The main "symptom" of being over quota is the inability to upload additional photos or files to those respective storage areas.

Bruce - this worries me. We're a premium group following migrating from yahoo, but going back to basic at the end of a year. Are you suggesting that the "delete old attachments" option may not actually do that??

Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, with that option?

Re: Can't add photos to existing photo album

Edward,

The browse function is actually carried out by the web browser calling some code on the device you're using (PC, 'phone etc.). So basically the problem is at your device, not the GIO side of things. Some things to try:
  • Close your browser down completely and restart it, try the browse again
  • If you can, try a different browser
  • If you're on Windows, try restarting Windows; I have seen in the past that things break randomly when Windows applies updates in the background.

Can't add photos to existing photo album

Edward Borg

Hi Group;

I'm not able to add new photos to an existing album that was recently transferred from Yahoo groups.
It keeps locking up when selecting to browse for file.

Sincerely;
Edward Borg

Is this a group that has recently migrated from Yahoo, "recently" being defined since transfers had to be paid for.

If so it has the advantage of being Premium for a year, hence the generous amount of storage. I must say that 3.2 GB of attachments does sound rather a lot...?

I can't say for sure if a subscriber can differentiate between Basic / Premium / Enterprise other than by perhaps noticing how much of the allowable storage has been used up but I suspect not; others may know better!?

I got this question from a list subscriber when our image storage was approaching 1 GB and we discussed whether to upgrade to Premium.

How can I tell if a list is Basic or Premium as a subscriber?
As a mere Subscriber, I don't believe that you can. Checking that requires access to the Billing functions.

Or are attachment image storage not included under the 1GB max, a loophole allowing larger image storage.
Attachment storage is included in the 1 GB max. But frankly, I've seen no clear indication that groups.io checks the size of incoming attachments against a group's storage allocation as they arrive, despite the existence of a setting that suggests it should be happening.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Best way to follow a topic?

Apologies in advance for this basic question, but is there a way for me to get an email of any replies to topics I would like to follow? ?(I don't see a 'follow' button..)

Something to suggest (perhaps in the new year) in Beta - add a follow button to emails when you subscribe to all messages. There is a mute button, but no follow.
And no way that I can see to add a post to my list of "followed" posts.
And no way that I know of for tracking my "likes".

I realize that the mute and follow aren't for saving posts for the future, but it could function that way. An easier way to add in that functionality?

Groups.io is so feature-rich, and this would be a great addition.

I've seen reference to the ability to change the background and colors of the controls. Where is this located and is it one size fits all or can members individually select choices?

Identifying a Premium list

I own and belong to several Basic lists.? With the recent changes many recently transferred lists that would have been free a year ago are now Premium lists.? Some Basic lists are well over
500 members and could become Premium lists in the future (I remember that change was temporarily rescinded).

Re: Posting my group link

The problem is, I am completely blind, and rely on a screen reader. Not sure how I can change the background color for the text.
Fabien, that was just one suggestion for marketing your group!?
The bottom line - if your group is not listed in the publicly accessible groups (note: it can still be restricted), make sure you change that. Go to Admin, Settings, privacy. In Visibility, choose group listed in the directory. Be sure to scroll down and Update Group to save the changes.

And then go to your directory listing in?/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,0,0?to check what it says about your group. This description is drawn from your home page. If it doesn't have the right keywords, edit your description on your home page. In Admin, Settings. Again, save the changes.

Also I mentioned Admin, Promote.
There are signup forms if you have a blog or website. Set your form options and then copy and paste the code into your site.?
There are also links for Facebook and Twitter.

Good luck!

Yes.? A week or so ago, it would take several days for the indexing to catch up.? Along with the faster imports, Mark tweaked the indexer so it usually only takes an hour or so.? The actual amount of time depends on how many messages are imported.

Eric -- The original post in this thread said nothing about needing to maintain directory structure.

I want to upload an entire Directory Structure. Not just the files in bulk.

How would that be done?
Go to the Files area and click the Upload Directory button.

The process is quite finicky and takes a long time. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/34328513#18953?for details.

Peter, I understood Duane's post to mean "have you looked in Groups.io itself" to see if those messages are there?

From what I understand, messages may be present on the server but not be listed in the list, due to indexing reasons. Is that so, Duane?

Re: messages missing after transfer

Ha - they just appeared! Looks like you were right about the indexing, Bruce.

Thanks, all.

Peter

Re: messages missing after transfer

Thanks. I am able to read the messages on the yahoo group. We got the email this morning that the transfer had completed, and it said it couldn't transfer 290 messages. However, this gap equates to about 4,000 missing messages.

Re: messages missing after transfer

Thanks, Bruce. The message we got back from the transfer agent was that it couldn't transfer 290 messages. This gap equates to about 4,000.

Yes, the messages are still present in the yahoo group.
