Peter, I understood Duane's post to mean "have you looked in Groups.io itself" to see if those messages are there?

From what I understand, messages may be present on the server but not be listed in the list, due to indexing reasons. Is that so, Duane?

Re: messages missing after transfer

Ha - they just appeared! Looks like you were right about the indexing, Bruce.

Thanks, all.

Re: messages missing after transfer

Thanks. I am able to read the messages on the yahoo group. We got the email this morning that the transfer had completed, and it said it couldn't transfer 290 messages. However, this gap equates to about 4,000 missing messages.

Re: messages missing after transfer

Thanks, Bruce. The message we got back from the transfer agent was that it couldn't transfer 290 messages. This gap equates to about 4,000.

Yes, the messages are still present in the yahoo group.

Peter -- It's likely a problem with a Yahoo Groups server that occurred at the time of group export. Can you log into Yahoo Groups and see these messages now? See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/46284383#22742?for another discussion along these lines and possible remedies.

The bottom line is that the transfer agent occasionally runs into the same YG foibles that the rest of us have had the pleasure of experiencing over the past 5 years.?

Good luck,
Bruce

You do have a separate Welcome message set up and activated for this destination subgroup, right?

You probably have a Pending member or two, so your Members List is defaulting to the Pending Approval view. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22622?for details on how to switch between views.

Return to the status page and double-check the destination group of your transfer. Did you make that upgrade for this particular destination group? The payment plan is per group, not per account.

Hello groups.io chaps,

The page at /yahootransfer now says:
View Existing Transfer Status:
PnP@... (needs your attention)
When I click on it, it says "We have accepted the invite to your group. Before we can transfer your group, you must upgrade it to the Premium Yearly option. Once you've done that, return here and you will be able to give the go ahead to transfer. "

But I have already upgraded to the Premium Yearly option.
What else do I need to do?

Re: Welcome Message Not Sent After Transition

Robert,

No joy on making active a newly created notice of the type Welcome and
having the notice actually get delivered at the end of a transfer.
I'm out of ideas.

My most recent group transfer was a couple years ago, but my test email address received both the "You have been added to ..." and the "Welcome to ..." messages. I don't recall having to do anything special to get that to happen, beyond creating a Welcome notice in keeping with the group's style.

I did make two notices of type Welcome in that group. One, I named "Normal Welcome Message" which was not active then but is now, and the other named "Transfer Welcome Notice" that was only Active from just before saying "go" to the transfer until just after completion.

The Transfer Welcome Notice starts with a jovial "You made it!", following up from the last Special notice sent in Yahoo Group, which ended with something like "Here we go...".

Relatively recent messages (and an old one) from Mark in beta indicate that this ought to be working:
(last sentence)
(last paragraph)
(only paragraph)

The way I read it is that if you simply left the boilerplate Welcome notice in place and active, that would not be sent. I think mostly because the boilerplate content is largely redundant with the You've been added... notice.

Shal,

You may be on to something. I extensively customized each of the default boilerplate Welcome Notices. I did not create brand new notices of the type Welcome and make them active. Since I have a few groups in the queue waiting to be transferred, I have created a new notice of the type Welcome, copied my customized text into it, and made it active. I have deactivated the default message, the one that I customized. I will report what happens. At a more leisurely moment I may quibble about the possible interpretations of "created a customized welcome message for your group." Thanks for bringing this up.

Robert R.
Shal,

No joy on making active a newly created notice of the type Welcome and having the notice actually get delivered at the end of a transfer. I tried that in a group that was in Stage 3 of 4 at the time that I activated the newly created notice. The transfer completed a few hours later and my non-Owner account that was added by support received the "You have been added" message from the Groups.io Team but no customized Welcome message. It was too late to check with the other members who were added in the transfer, but I'll do that in the morning.

The only difference between the original boilerplate (customized by me) and the new one I created is that the name of the original was Welcome Message and the name of the newly created notice is simply Welcome. I do have another group that should go to Stage 4 in a day or so. I can experiment with that one, but I'm out of ideas on what other settings I could change to get the notice to be delivered at the end of the transfer process.

I have already "manually" sent the text of the various Welcome messages to each of the groups that were transferred, so fixing the bug (if it is a bug) won't really be of much benefit to me. The horses are already out of the barn. Still, it's worth my time to experiment with the remaining two groups in the transfer queue if it can help others in the same situation. I'm open to further suggestions on things to try.

Re: #transfer #transfer

Rick,

a) I now have 1000+ members that are set to Moderated after first
post. Unmoderating them one at a time seems .. painful, so there has
to be a better way?
Use the feature as it was intended: wait until a member posts, and then approve his/her message.

That will unmoderate him/her automatically, depending on your group's Unmoderate After selection. This minimizes your effort, and defers it until needed. And, because you can approve messages using the web or by email (reply to the Message Approval Needed notice), it is something you can do whichever way is easiest for you at the moment. Lurkers who don't post don't take up any of your time.

b) I don't want new users to be moderated. Is there a path to this?
You must choose (at least) one of the boxes in the Spam Control section of your group's Settings page. So if not New Users Moderated, Restricted Membership is your next most likely choice.

Like approving messages, you can approve membership requests by web or email, whichever is most convenient at the moment.

I want people to be able to join, and then not be moderated. That was
a choice for us in Yahoo Groups, and it was never a problem.
Both unrestricted and unmoderated is not an option here. It may not have been a problem for your Yahoo Group, but many Yahoo Groups were overrun by spammers when their admins stopped paying attention. Groups.io does not want that happening here.

Similarly, if I want to change the moderation setting for all
members, > I don't appear to be able to select all, just 20 at a time?

You can change the number of members per page, up to 100, using the Items Per Page setting on the Preferences in your Account. There is an "Infinite Scroll" option for that setting, but others have reported problems with that choice on some pages, so I don't recommend it.

Maximum number of groups?

I've been manually creating new groups within Groups.io as part of a transition from Yahoo! Groups.

I have around 50 Groups in Yahoo! I've managed to create 20 groups within Groups.io, however I don't seem to be able to go beyond this. Is there a cap on how many Groups.io an individual can create?

Re: Resending invites with Customized message

Karen,

Also, How do I get a copy of the invite that went out, so I can verify
everytihing was done as expected?
I have a spare email address that I include in every batch of Invites (or Direct Adds). I remove the address from the group later.

No, that's the way it works.? It's not clearly stated on the transfer page, but elsewhere you're told that links will be copied into databases.? If you don't want to use them in a database, you can create a Wiki page or file for them.
