Calendar email Shows 2 Different Dates in 2 Different Time Zones - How to Fix? #cal-notice

Setup an event but the cal-invite email sent shows wrong date/ time in some places, correct in others? - can't figure out where the data is being pulled from as there is no Agenda field in the creation form.? Date should be Dec. 21 7-9PM EST NOT Dec. 22. Thought I'd changed the date display to EST vs UTC but maybe I missed it somewhere else?? Very confusing for recipients.? Thx for any help.

Re: Resizing photos?

No, or at least not one that's been found.? Right now, the only option is to download, resize, upload, delete original.
What a shame.? Even a "resize" button in the Edit dialog would make doing the job manually at least feel tractable.

Thanks for the bad news.? ;-)

Re: How to open files from Files section in browser

You can have photos in the Files section but it has to be "permitted" by owner or moderator with enough permissions. In Admin, Settings, scroll down to Features and look for Files; then click "Allow Photos in Files." We like that feature for some of the reasons you've stated!

Hope this helps!

Yes.? It happens quite often, especially with people that have their own domain, so they can keep track of various groups or forums that they're on.

That can be controlled on the Settings page.? Features, Files, check Allow Photos In Files, Update Group.

pending member odd name

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

We have a pending member who is applying using the name ¡°@d**** That seems like a very odd user name to ?me. Is it legit to use ?as a person¡¯s user name on an email address when they are applying to join a group here? If it is, would it open the door to mass confusion as to why ¡°¡± is posting on our private closed group?

Thank you.

If viewing them online is a priority, you could convert your file to a PDF or image file before uploading.
Thanks. No, no priority. I was just testing the system. Trying to see what are the options for making selected old Yahoogroups threads or mails available.

Yes, PDF also opens in my browser without any prompting. It may depend on whether the browser has that functionality.

The "Files" section does not accept images -- I was forced to use the "Photos" section, even for non-photo images.

I rather dislike the "Photos" section because one is forced to view images as large thumbnails and "albums", instead of a file list with directories. And you can only see who uploaded an image if you click it individually. Not very useful for most uses.

FWIW, I'm using Vivaldi, and I found that if I use the Undisposition extension (with "groups.io" specified), Vivaldi opens HTML, JSON, TXT, etc files even in my group's "Files" section. I'm not sure how dangerous this extension is...

I'll be one of the first to admit that it's much easier for me to be calm since I moved my groups here about 5 years ago. ;>)

First, the 2018 Florida bill was to STAY On Daylight Savings time year round. ? Not stay on EST. But it was not approved by Congress. So yes, Floridians will continue to change clocks.?

This is a little complicated as to which states have passed what but bottom line is Congress must approve any changes. Which doesn¡¯t look likely soon as far as I can tell. For one thing it would be a nightmare for businesses to have a nationwide checkerboard of times to deal with.?

Here¡¯s a recent short article

Re: Resizing photos?

Is there really no way to do a bulk resize operation?

I'm a relatively new co-owner (one of the original owners has moved on) of a group that was started almost 7 years ago, and as a result of recently hitting the storage limit I've realized that no one had ever set up a resize for images.

I'd love to be able to do a resize on all images, but clearly the steps Chris outlined earlier would be prohibitive.

It is a bit confusing because of all the time zones around the world and whether they observe daylight saving time, along with the different dates that it starts and ends.? By selecting Eastern time with EDT at the end, you'll have the correct one and it will adjust as needed.

Skip -- Most functions of Yahoo Groups will clearly be going away, come December 14, along with all associated online storage. Files and Photos? Gone. Digest mode? Gone. Online message archive? Gone. The only thing remaining will be a listserv- or mailman-type mailing list.

Not sure a new mail app of any kind is anything to be thrilled about. For what it's worth, groups.io is working on an app, too.

Hey, Hey Yahoo/Verizon is back.

They are fixing our complaints by scrapping the old platform.

It will be a free app on our Smart Mobile Phones or note pad.

Subject: Evolution of Yahoo Groups

Dear Group Moderators and Members,

Thank you for your commitment to Yahoo and for helping us define the power of digital communities. Eighteen years ago, we combined the functionality of a site called eGroups.com with a precursor community platform called Yahoo Clubs to launch Yahoo Groups. Since then, you and millions of others have helped prove our hypothesis, by creating and joining more than 10 Million groups.

A lot has changed about the Internet since 2001, including the ways most people now use Yahoo Groups. Today, most Yahoo Groups activity happens in your email inbox, not on the bulletin boards where Yahoo Groups started in the pre-smartphone age. Increasingly, people want content and connections coming directly to them, and this is why we continue to invest in Yahoo Mail -- including the recent launch of a new that is currently the highest-rated email app in the App Store and Google Play.

So, as our users¡¯ habits have evolved, we have begun the process of evolving our approach to help active Yahoo Groups thrive and migrate to our email platform. To help you plan for these changes, below is the schedule of how this transition will happen.

Beginning October 28, 2019:

  • Users will be able to join a Yahoo Group only through an invite from the Group Moderator or by submitting a request to join a Group, which requires approval by the Group Moderator.
  • Since we are moving Group communication from posting on message boards to email distribution, uploading and hosting of new content will also be disabled on the Yahoo Groups website.

Beginning December 14, 2019:

  • All Groups will be made private and any content that was previously uploaded via the website will be removed. We believe privacy is critical and made this decision to better align with our overall principles.
  • If you would like to keep any of the content you¡¯ve posted or stored in the past within your Yahoo Group, please download it by December 14 by accessing .

As these dates get closer, we will send follow-up reminders. More information about the upcoming changes can be found .

While this evolution of Yahoo Groups is inspired by how we see the platform being used today, we know change can be difficult. Here are a few important facts as we make this transition:

1. Yahoo Groups is not going away - We know that our users are deeply passionate about connecting around shared interests, and we are evolving Groups to better align with how you use it today.

2. New groups can still be formed - Users can continue to connect with others around their common bonds and interests. From animal rescues to sporting and activity groups, civic organizations to local PTAs, members of our Yahoo Groups will remain connected and able to share their activities and interests. All of the content that you have shared previously on the website, can continue to be shared via email.

We know that Yahoo Groups is an important online extension of your real-life group of friends, interests and communities, and we are committed to supporting communities that rely on Yahoo Groups. Thanks for coming along with us this far. We look forward to seeing where the technology -- and you -- take us in the decades to come.

Sincerely,
The Groups Team
