I'm toying with the idea of having a half dozen key users of my site got early access. I'm patiently waiting Last I checked we were about 886th in line.

How do I "enroll" these folks and what email address do they use? Is it as simple as "[email protected]"?

Thanks. Lots of really technical questions are being answered here but to me . . .baby steps, baby steps.

Probably a good suggestion for beta once the dust has settled from the Great Migration, because I suspect that there would be quite a few group owners & moderators who would want to use such a capability.

Andrea -- 9 PM on Dec 21 EST is 2 AM the following day in England.

Groups.io is a global community, and so are many of the groups here.?Any event that you set up will display at correct time/date for each subscribers's local time zone. Individuals can set their local time zone at?/account?page=prefs? Note that this is an account setting, not a group setting, and will apply to every group that individual has joined.?

If you want to set up a default time zone for people that join your group, it can be done at Admin>Settings>Default Sub Settings (button at the top of the Settings page). Please note that this is only a default for those who don't already have a groups.io account (i.e.: their account was set up as a result of joining). If they already have a groups.io account, the Default Sub Setting of your group will not override whatever they have previously chosen.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Duane,
Thank you.?

Okay - so when the person using groups.io@...?posts a message in our group, does that show up on the message or on the email if they post via email??

If they have a display name, would that show up on a message board post and on an email instead? I am not happy about having someone using this site¡¯s domain as their personal name (). I think it will cause mass confusion among our members.

Yes.? It happens quite often, especially with people that have their own domain, so they can keep track of various groups or forums that they're on.

Hashtag transfer use #transfer

Emails on GMF have exploded. I feel sorry for moderators/owners. You guys do a great service for a lot of people. Thanks.

Would it be possible to encourage people to use the #transfer for questions and comments related to new transfers so us? "older" groups can mute this hashtag. And I do know about muting a topic.

Group renaming incomplete #groupname

I just set up a group, but realized the group name (e-mail name) needed to be changed.? I changed it yesterday in Settings as described in the guide for changing the group name.? Then today I tried adding member that was not currently registered with groups.io.? Everything seemed fine in that the new group name properly appeared in the e-mail address for the group and in the "confirm your e-mail" message to the new member.? But there is a problem with the "welcome to <newname>@groups.io" message the new member gets.? The new name does indeed appear in the subject line of the message, and the "from" address is also the new group name @groups.io.? But the content of that message contains all references to the original name of the group which was in effect over 18 hours ago, including:

  • Welcome to the <oldname>@groups.io group at Groups.io, a free, easy-to-use...
  • You can visit your group, start reading messages and posting them here: /g/<oldname>
  • You can set your subscription settings here: /g/<oldname>/editsub.?
  • If you do not wish to belong to this group, you may unsubscribe by sending an email to: <oldname>[email protected]
  • Regards, The <oldname>@groups.io Moderator

And if the new member follows any of the links involving the oldname, they get a "sorry, but that group does not exist" page from groups.io.
It appears the new group name is only partially propagated within the groups.io system.? Is this just a time delay problem?? If I wait another day will the "welcome to.." message for new members contain the new group name?

Current Delay Between Invitation and Transfer Joining ?

Does anyone know what is the current delay between an Yahoo Group Owner sending an invitation to? [email protected] and Transfer joining up?
It's been a least two days for several of my invitations. Shoud a second invitation be sent now?

Thanks.

Calendar email Shows 2 Different Dates in 2 Different Time Zones - How to Fix? #cal-notice

Setup an event but the cal-invite email sent shows wrong date/ time in some places, correct in others? - can't figure out where the data is being pulled from as there is no Agenda field in the creation form.? Date should be Dec. 21 7-9PM EST NOT Dec. 22. Thought I'd changed the date display to EST vs UTC but maybe I missed it somewhere else?? Very confusing for recipients.? Thx for any help.

Re: Resizing photos?

No, or at least not one that's been found.? Right now, the only option is to download, resize, upload, delete original.
What a shame.? Even a "resize" button in the Edit dialog would make doing the job manually at least feel tractable.

Thanks for the bad news.? ;-)

Re: How to open files from Files section in browser

You can have photos in the Files section but it has to be "permitted" by owner or moderator with enough permissions. In Admin, Settings, scroll down to Features and look for Files; then click "Allow Photos in Files." We like that feature for some of the reasons you've stated!

Hope this helps!

pending member odd name

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

We have a pending member who is applying using the name ¡°@d**** That seems like a very odd user name to ?me. Is it legit to use ?as a person¡¯s user name on an email address when they are applying to join a group here? If it is, would it open the door to mass confusion as to why ¡°¡± is posting on our private closed group?

Thank you.

If viewing them online is a priority, you could convert your file to a PDF or image file before uploading.
Thanks. No, no priority. I was just testing the system. Trying to see what are the options for making selected old Yahoogroups threads or mails available.

Yes, PDF also opens in my browser without any prompting. It may depend on whether the browser has that functionality.

The "Files" section does not accept images -- I was forced to use the "Photos" section, even for non-photo images.

I rather dislike the "Photos" section because one is forced to view images as large thumbnails and "albums", instead of a file list with directories. And you can only see who uploaded an image if you click it individually. Not very useful for most uses.

FWIW, I'm using Vivaldi, and I found that if I use the Undisposition extension (with "groups.io" specified), Vivaldi opens HTML, JSON, TXT, etc files even in my group's "Files" section. I'm not sure how dangerous this extension is...

First, the 2018 Florida bill was to STAY On Daylight Savings time year round. ? Not stay on EST. But it was not approved by Congress. So yes, Floridians will continue to change clocks.?

This is a little complicated as to which states have passed what but bottom line is Congress must approve any changes. Which doesn¡¯t look likely soon as far as I can tell. For one thing it would be a nightmare for businesses to have a nationwide checkerboard of times to deal with.?

Here¡¯s a recent short article
