Re: Picture not appearing
Noel,
Looking at the source of the emails, the faulty one has the pictureThe https: there means that the image is not contained in the message - the receiving system must go fetch it from the named web site. While for a previous post that did work it is:The cid: there means that the image is contained in an attachment to the message. Further down in that view source you'll encounter a (possibly large) block of encoded data which is the image file itself, likely base64 encoded, and delimited by that marker you see after "cid:" So the claim "done in exactly the same way" is cast in some doubt. Oddly he says he can see the picture fine in the posting he received,That could be explained if he is a member of the "ngauge" group and the rest of you aren't. Or may be explained by the "draftattachment" part of the URL, implying that the image is in a part of the site (his draft messages) that only he can access. Is it a bug ?Maybe. You didn't say whether he composes his messages using the group's site or via his email user interface. The "draftattachment" part of the URL suggests to me that he composed the message on the group's site. If that is the case then I'm not sure how or why the site would choose to reference the image file remotely (https) rather than include it as a message attachment (cid). Possibly that is a bug with the Draft mechanism in Groups.io. If he composed the message in question using an email interface, then he may have inadvertently done a drag-n-drop from the image in a Draft he was composing for the ngauge group, and then failed to override the email interface's default of using https for images dropped from web sites. In this case the difference between this message and his others could be simply that this time the image he used wasn't on his computer, but in Groups.io's servers. Shal |

Picture not appearing
A member has made a number of posts with embedded pictures, which have worked OK. But his last posting, done in exactly the same way, does not display a picture, though the email I received does have a square box where it should be. There is nothing when viewed on the web side or in a digest.
Looking at the source of the emails, the faulty one has the picture as src="/g/ngauge/draftattachment/442690/0/DSC_3238.JPG" While for a previous post that did work it is: src="cid:[email protected]" So it looks to me like something went wrong on group.io and it has not been loaded correctly. Oddly he says he can see the picture fine in the posting he received, but nobody else can. Is it a bug ? Noel |

Nice Shall! ?Thanks for that. ?I had no idea yyyy-mm-dd was the international standard. ?I wonder how the person who came up with it feels as so many never use it. ?Probably just has a permanent tear track under one eye.?

,,, and, possibly more relevant (for web usage),?
And I've noticed looking at archived messages, that go from having a time (in correct zone), to month (three letter abbreviation) day, then to mm/dd/yy format... Jeremy Who will be happy with ISO 8601 dates, but is fascinated by the variety here |

it's about time the World standardised YYYY/MM/DD.The world has has an international standard, ISO-8601: YYYY-MM-DD, but not everyone has gotten the memo. I like this humorous take on it: More details: Shal |

Re: rejected email - spoofing
Shal,
You may be right about it being a warning in the composition dialog. I will check with the user. She may have forwarded me her "sent" message, as she had already deleted the delivery failure notice. Yes, the blue box is the message to which she was replying, I assumed that the "on behalf of" was standard protocol - "Patti Bennett" is my display name in the Group Profile. I use the same email address in both forums. She is actually replying to my reply of the initial message. That might be a big clue, is it flagging MY reply as spoofed? The other group members did not receive her reply, but it *is* in the messages section on the website. I guess that means that it could not have been just a warning in her composition dialog?? |

Re: rejected email - spoofing
Patti,
A new user received an email from our group successfully, but whenThat doesn't look like a delivery failure notice. That looks like a notice placed in her reply composition dialog. I think it is really just a warning that Outlook was "concerned" about the sender of the original message (that would be your group's address). If the blue box at the bottom of the screen shot is the beginning of a quote of the message you sent (to which she's replying) then a mystery to me is why you were listed at the group's address "on behalf of" yourself. Do you use a different email address in that group than here in GMF? Her message does show up on the website just fine. You mean, no other group members reported such a message when they replied? If her message posted to the group's message section then it should have gone also to any members that receive group postings. Shal |

rejected email - spoofing
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýA new user received an email from our group successfully, but when she replied to it, she got a mail delivery failure, stating that ?
? Her message does show up on the website just fine. I am not sure which mailserver is rejecting it, hers or the groups. Since none of the other group members received it, I would think that it was the groups.io server rejecting her response. But she is using her work email, and I know a lot of corporations can sometimes block really useful things (e.g. she can't go on dropbox etc). Including screencap of her failure message. I blacked out her email address for privacy, but it does match what is registered in the group. Thanks for any help! -Patti ? ? |

Re: European Date Format & 24hr Clock
#calendar
Thanks Shai - I'll just have to watch I don't get tripped up - for us Europeans - is 08/12/17 - the 12th of August 2017 or 8th December 2017? But I haven't heard any sleigh bells lately so it must be August. And it's about time the World standardised YYYY/MM/DD. It follows the normal directory dissemination. But hey were just humans - nothings prefect - what would we do with ourselves otherwise (;>? Now about decimalisation........

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup?
#calendar
If these folks aren't on too many groups, they may be able to use the Calendar on the overview page without much confusion. /calendar That will show events for all of the groups they are members of and will have the 'shortcut' name of the group shown first. You can hover over each one to see most of the description, or click on it to see the whole thing if it doesn't fit the page. You could try it out to see what you think.

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup?
#calendar
That's precisely the issue; there are events I want to make private -- chores like "hey don't forget the garbage has to go to the curb by Thursday" or plans for group meals like "hey, dinner tonight is trout a la creme" that I don't want going to the big group.
Given that all members of a subgroup have3 to be members of the main one, I suppose it's a minimal issue, but I'd like to be able to get people a single authoritative calendar of stuff going on at the house so people only have to check one place. Checking their own personal account calendars might be the right solution but I have to remind people that's there. |

Re: Sharing a calendar with a subgroup?

?,
Is there a way to configure a group's calendar so that its events areNo, but members of the subgroup are perforce members of the primary group. Meaning that members of the "residents" subgroup will receive event reminders from the primary group, and can access that group's calendar. Perhaps what you want to do is disable the calendar in the residents subgroup so that residents do not become confused about having two calendars. That would work unless there are events which should only be displayed to members of the residents subgroup. Shal |

Any idea on how to fix this? Will this clean itself up on its own?It may be a matter of page caching in your browser. Try refreshing the page before attempting additional changes. How long does the renaming and realignment of resources take on theI haven't noticed any delays on that end. But I've only once added a subgroup to a group. Shal |

Sharing a calendar with a subgroup?
#calendar
I've got a group and a subgroup representing the social calendar and public events taking place at a house, and the people who live at the house respectively.
The group is a public group with an application process; the subgroup is private and invite-only. I'd like to be able to make the group's calendar events auto-share with the subgroup so that residents can see what's going on at the house separately from the events to which they themselves are participating in. e.g., "I won't be involved at the board games event, so I decline it, but I should still see it on my calendar so I know everybody else at the house is busy." Is there a way to configure a group's calendar so that its events are auto-shared with a subgroup? |

Help with a group renaming
#howtoguide
#groupowner
I'm an owner of a group that was, until today, named "stationbeta-social."
I created a subgroup of that group, called "residents". In the process, I renamed the group to "stationbeta". There's a textfield on the subgroups screen that had "stationbeta-social" in it as the group name. I used that to rename the group. Groups.io now is having trouble showing me either the main group or the subgroup on either "stationbeta.groups.io" or "stationbeta-social.groups.io". Any idea on how to fix this? Will this clean itself up on its own? How long does the renaming and realignment of resources take on the back end? |
