If you transfer to separate groups, then yes.? If you transfer to a main group and a subgroup, then no.

There is no way to export them to MBox format? This will retain pretty much everything as Idid this when goign from mail man to io.

Larry -- The groups.io interface provides no function that will allow you to import these messages to your group's message archive, all indexed, searchable and attributable to the original posters. Most folks doing a "manual" transfer have been printing old messages to a PDF or converting it to HTML and subsequently uploading the archive to the group's files area. Hopefully others can provide additional options.

Yahoo Transfer Question

Nancy Goldman

My club, GBAEC (Greater Boston Area Earthdog Club) has a Yahoo email for the general membership and one for the board.? Would we be charged the $220 twice to convert over to Groups IO?? We did a test run with you last year and unfortunately, never signed up. Other things seemed more important at the time.? Now of course we are under the gun much like you.
We are a small club with limited funds but we do maintain a website with GoDaddy.? I as President, along with my board, am trying to figure out the best vehicle for our file storage.

Re: reply to sender/group

Larry... For fun I gave this a try. Set group policy on emails to "Reply to Sender". Send an email from my Thunderbird client to the group. When I received the message, it had two issues: (1) When I hit Reply in Thunderbird it set up the message to reply to the GROUP, not me the sender (2) The options at the bottom of the message still only had the limited set (View/Reply online, Mute, Group Owner, Unsubscribe), So, as a result I still had no way to reply to sender. BUT, when I log-in the groups.io and reply to a message there then poof the reply goes to the sender. So, the group policy on replies seems to only affect someone logged in to groups.io. We really need to have this working externally in one's email client!

How can I get the right people's attention on this?

actually I found the bank entity.. it's Stripe, that is where the $4.75 of the $5.00 is sitting.? ?I still have the question, for anyone who has tried... Is Stripe effective for the group to make easy donations?? (??

I like the idea of having the Open Donation tab right there on the home page fo the group.? But People are so used to Paypal.? ???? ?Am I gonna get results with Stripe vs Paypal.? ? ?

Thanks again.? Dale.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Can you? check your old pre NEO account to see if you get medsages ther? And chevk to see if the message to owner went there or to another email account you have, possibly in spam?

Can you see the membership list to see who is owner?
Or other email addresses you might have used with the group?

Whichever account set the group up is owner unless you made a
new account owner.

Donations - Where is the Money #donations

Dale Dreher

I cannot find any info on this in the Help files..? so I must ask for help from anyone with experience..? ??I have around 3000 members in my group and anticipate I can get donations from maybe 200-300 of them.? Amounts of $10 to 25 to 50 dollars generally, per year.

First of All Groups.IO wants 5% of donations, as a processing fee.. is this fair?? Or should I use Paypal ?

I have set up my Premium Group to Receive Donations though, to test it out.? ?I made a test donation of $5. to my group from my wifes credit card.? I hooked up my bank account to the Groups.IO Money recieving entity (which I forgot the name of).

Anyways, Under my name, Accounts, I do see the Donation as being recieved under Billing.? ?But Where is the money?? ?There should be an account balance somehwere I would imagine, with a balance of $4.75? ( $5. less 5%).? ?? Can't find it.. I did get an email from Groups.io telling me I got a donation of $5. but there is no link to any banking system...??? ? ?I need help figuring out how to get the Money from my Groups.IO balance (whereever that is).. into my personal bank account.? Are there detailed instructions somewhere I am missing?

Thank you for sharing any experience you have on this.?

Subgroup for Email Only #subgroups #email

Is it possible to create a sub email group only. Meaning I don't want to create a whole entire complete subgroup site, I just want to create a sub email group and put individuals into that email group so that emails can be sent and received to only a subset of members.

Transfer Queue Progress Now in "Stages" Instead of "Steps"

Folks -- Mark has recently changed the terminology used for progress through the transfer queue (i.e.: after you have already "Given the Go-Ahead to Transfer"). Your groups will now proceed through this queue in terms of "stages" instead of "steps." See??for details.

This is to avoid confusion with the process of actually setting up a transfer as outlined on the page found at?/yahootransfer. Nothing has really changed, only the terminology.?

Please note the distinction:? "Steps" suggests some action that you need to take to get things set up, while proceeding through the subsequent "stages" involves simply waiting for your already-set-up transfer to complete. If we can agree to use this terminology going forward, hopefully it will mitigate some of the current ambiguity.

Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Using Expedited Transferring

Good to know expedited transfer is working. I was involved in a couple of groups, one of them with a large number of members and we opted not to use expedited transfer.
Since the messages were not of immediate concern, downloaded the member info from YG and manually uploaded to GIO. PG4 helped to download the member list of large group.
The lists are now running on GIO for the last ten days and the messages are in the process of transfer by GIO. The lists are functioning smoothly.
When GIO does the transfer, it would merge members and eliminating duplicates. So for any list which would not be able to use expedited process, the above is a good choice. Thanks to Mark. At least we now have an option.

Cannot say what would occur for others but paying for expedited transfer really reduced the time to get the transferring done.

Two and half hours after paying for expedited transferring checked the status and shows TRANSFERRING NOW. Not sure when it actually began but this was a group that had about 850 groups ahead of my group. Groups.io had already downloaded the information was just waiting to transfer.

Others had estimated 20 to 30 groups were being transferred a day by Groups.io so using those numbers I would have waited another 29 to 43 days unless things speeded up.

This is a large group for me (almost 1,300 members and about 350,000 prior emails and several files uploaded) and I needed to get it up and running.

For me the $200 is worth the faster service.

Charles -- Neither. Your year starts on the date that you paid for the Premium Yearly upgrade.

It was at that point that your group first gained access to functions available only to Premium groups.

When does my Year begin?

I wanted to preserve my Yahoo Group's existence so I decided to transfer over to Groups.io. ?I opened and upgraded a new Groups.io Group according to the transfer instructions and paid the $220 fee. ?Now I am in the waiting queue for a month or so, TBD as to when my group gets transferred so I can use the transferred data.

My question is: ?When does my paid year begin, when I started the transfer process, or when I actually got the transfer?

Is there absolutely no way Groups.io could help migrate my Yahoo group archives, photos, etc. to my Groups.io group without requiring the invitation and going through the automated process?
Lyndon -- It's important to understand that the groups.io transfer agent cannot and will not "break into" Yahoo Groups and "steal" data off their servers. It is up to the group Owners to let the agent in.?If you're unable to invite new subscribers to your Yahoo Group, then I suspect you can't promote anyone to Moderator, either...both of which are necessary for the agent to gain full access to your group's data.

But if you have a lot of time on your hands, it's possible to migrate everything but the message archive yourself, using freely available tools. Please see the FAQ at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups, starting at #10. Meanwhile, Mark is offering refunds to those who paid for Premium but are unable to complete the process. See??for details.

I missed that, I got the trail right when all this started, and bought it after a couple of weeks. My trial must’ve been 30 days, I still had 18 or so days left when I bought it.

Allowing users to download all the data they want for 14 days is simply asking to be stiffed.
Before the YG closure announcement my conversion rate was 50%.
After, it was 3%.
So 47% of users who would have bought just decided they didn't have to.
So now it has a trial that reflects the new situation."

Re: #subgroups Can I create an Invisible Subgroup? #subgroups

We had the same issue in our group - we wanted a small, "administrators" group for private conversation. As Duane said, you CAN make this a subgroup, but we elected to have a separate (free) group for this purpose because we felt it was too likely that, being a subgroup *in the same domain*, we might inadvertently send a private message to the whole group! This way we are totally separate and pretty confident we won't mix them up. Our main group is a Premium one, but since there are only 7 people in the Admin group, and we don't need a large amount of file space, that one was set up as a Free group so it did not add to the cost.

Just sharing what our group did for this (and why). I realize we all have different needs and so this might not be best for you.

The only other account I have ever had is the one that predated NEO. They forced me to create the one I have now when NEO was released.
