Vance -- This has lately been taking 1-3 days. It is not automated and requires human intervention (solving a "not a bot" CAPTCHA on the Yahoo Groups site).

Lately, Yahoo Groups has also been slow to allow the agent into the group even after the invitation is accepted. So you could run into that, too.?

Meanwhile, you might want to double-check that you have the proper permissions in the Yahoo Group to subsequently promote the agent to a Moderator. If you don't, find someone who can.

and if I don't receive it after that amount of time, what should I do then?
We will cross that bridge in the [unlikely] event that we come to it. Meanwhile, keep checking the status of your transfer (and any relevant comments here in GMF) periodically.

John -- It's to keep malicious people from spamming all of the members of your group, directing them to phishing sites, and so on. The very reputation of groups.io as a mailing list service is also at stake...previous posts to beta demonstrate that Mark wants build and maintain the reputation of groups.io as a safe haven from abuses of this nature.

We have a small group that provides advice to our community and only those responding are members of the group. But we would like to be able to have the community emails not held in the Pending queue. We would like them to just flow to the group. Is there any way to do this?
There is no way to do this. If you examine the Spam Control section of Settings, you'll note that you must check at least one of the boxes. So at a minimum, you will end up manually approving either each individual subscription (Restricted group), or a new subscriber's first message (New User Moderated).?

How long before Groups.io sends an email notifying me they have accepted my invite to the YGroup I wish to transfer?

I am at step 4 in the transfer process. I have completed steps 1-3

My question is, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET THE EMAIL, and if I don't receive it after that amount of time, what should I do then?

  1. Create your new Groups.io group and upgrade it to premium for a year.
  2. Set up and start the transfer process by clicking the?Set Up New Transfer?button, below. You'll be asked to select your Groups.io group and for the name of your Yahoo Group.
  3. Send an invite?from your Yahoo Group?to?[email protected]
  4. We will accept the invite and then send you an email directing you to make the?[email protected]?member a moderator.
  5. After you have made the?[email protected]?member a moderator, return here, select your?Existing Transfer?transfer, and tell us that you are ready for the transfer to happen.?Your group must be signed up for the Premium Yearly plan.

The mbox files could be imported into an email client such as Thunderbird and sent to the groups.io list as new messages from there.

This would lose the original author and datestamp, but the content would at least be browsable and searchable along with new messages to the group.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Thanks for the further input, Donald. I already paid the one year fee thinking that I had to in order to transfer the group. Since I already paid it, would it be possible to send the downloads of the data to groups.io so that they can still do the transfer. Is the data they use for the transfer any different than the downloaded data?

Re: Photo Description content - Automated transfer from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io

Ian,

During the Automated Transfer process from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io,
does the photo or file DESCRIPTION content from my Yahoo Groups group
get automatically carried across to my Groups.io group
Yes they do.

I like Groups.io - it continues to keep getting better. Hope you can
offer a better deal for small *no $* hobby groups like ours,
There are options to paying for the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer, but those won't copy all of the data for you.

If you can't spring for a transfer, you might consider PG Offline as a way to make sure your contents get archived before Yahoo Groups removes it from their servers. I think they've ended the Free Trial offer, but the license fee is reasonable as I recall.

Bonnie - try to be patient. It took almost 48 hours for [email protected] to show in our member list but eventually it did. Made it a mod, clicked "go ahead" and now we wait again ;) Good luck!

I bet the email you got says they received your invitation.? That just means that they're aware of it and you don't need to send another.? They won't accept it until they're ready to add you to the list of transfers.? Check the status page of your transfer.

I'm not sure you're going to be able to do that.

Some have used PG Offline to archive their group then export the
messages to many HTML files, then paste them into one continuous big
PDG file and upload that to the files section.

There is the $220 transfer you can pay for if you need them in the
messages section instead of in a large PDF file. It is probably set up
this way so you have to depend on the GIO transfer service, which is
now not only being charged for, but that charge was doubled overnight
sometime last week with almost no notice.

Right now I don't know of an existing method to put the messages in
the new group from the old.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have now migrated all my member's emails to the new group and invited them to join. That's all working fine. I also uploaded my photos and files. My final hurdle is getting the messages (conversations) into my groups.io group.

There are over 3000 posts, and the download from Yahoo consists of two large mbox format files, where all the messages, with addresses, headers, etc. are all sequentially displayed with about 1500 messages in each single mbox message.

I clearly need to have a way to parse these and reformat the output to match groups.io. I was able to extract the email address using a similar technique, but it was far simpler, and I don't know exactly what groups.io needs. Is there a sample at groups.io of what the upload file should look like to import messages.

Larry,

In the last two days, I experienced the same lack of access to my Yahoo group management functions that you describe. I resolved it accidentally by clicking to another Yahoo group I moderate and saw that I had access to management functions on that group. So I clicked back to the first group and my management functions reappeared.

This leads me to suggest that you log out of yahoo, clear your browser cache and log back in. Or try a different browser or from a different device. If you know how to remove just the Yahoo cookies ?€¡± which is a different process for each browser ?€¡± you could try that as well, then log back in.

Well, this is strange. I still can't gain access to my own group "Management" functions, but I was able to request and receive a download of all my groups, even the ones that I'm just a member of. There is a folder for each group, with sub-folders for files and messages, but not for photos and attachments. Only the downloads for groups with owner privileges included photos. That's not a huge deal since I can manually download the photos without owner privileges, and there aren't that many of them.

At least now I can restore all the members and invite them to join the new group, and I guess I can upload the files and photos.

Better than nothing, but I wasted the fee for the yearly upgrade since I couldn't use it. Had I known at the time, I would have created a master group, and put everything else in subgroups.

Editing Date / Time Stamps On Messages #date #email #post-transfer

Afternoon All,

Is there any functionality to edit the date value on messages in the archive. To correct corrupted values (in my case that came across from Yahoo - and probably originally caused by date format errors from the original sender at the time)?

Example below - the 1997 messages (pre-Yahoo Groups even existing) were actually emailed in 2003 - and were showing like this at Yahoo as well:

??
Many TIA,

John

Not really. I know how to get the different member lists.

Re-read what i wrote: "BUT... that list only showed 5 members: The member I just approved, the first member that signed up with the group before the transfer which was in February, 2018, myself and two moderators. So I followed the following sequence: 'Your Groups>(my group)>Admin>Members and the list shows the 978 members I expected to see, but not the new member I just approved."

Here it is 7 hours later and the behavior is still the same. The ONLY way I can see the new member is to click on the "View Pending Member" link in the email. When I do that, it appears the new member is now approved. Clicking on that member's page and either Save or Cancel, and I get back to the member list... but with only 5 members, as above. The only way I see the full membership list is to go to my group's home page then back to the membership list. Everybody is there EXCEPT the new member.?

And there are no entries in the moderator activity log since a different new member was approved 4 days ago. And no entries in the All activity log that the person even applied. It's like the approval I earlier today didn't happen.?

Any more ideas?

Dave

Re: Emails from my vBulletin Forum not appearing #bouncedemails #email

Edited

I just reinstated using Amazon SES for email sending. This is normally a much better way of sending emails as they handle all the problems with bouncing emails and negative reputation. With thousands of members, you always get someone who complains to their ISP despite double opt-in, when they could simply unsubscribe.

Anyway, new problem as groups.io is showing the incoming email address like this:

The Rife Forum <0102016e2e76af3b-01d11867-1f83-492b-8275-2d55afc19059-000000@...>

It should look like this:?The Rife Forum <admin@...>

The relevant part of the email header looks like this:

To: Rifeforum via Email Integration <[email protected]>
From: "The Rife Forum" <admin@...>
Auto-Submitted: auto-generated
Message-ID: <0102016e2e76af3b-01d11867-1f83-492b-8275-2d55afc19059-000000@...>

Can this be fixed? It would be better not to show the email address than this.
Under settings, I do have the "Hide Email Addresses In Archives" option set to "Mask" but it is being shown, anyway.
