Re: Email addresses
Why not just use a filter on your email program to direct the
toggle quoted message
Show quoted text
messages from different groups into different folders. (i.e. a message from this group will have the text string "[GMF]" in the subject, so I have a filter that says if that string is present in the subject of a message put it in a folder called "Groups.io Moderation". I have a few other types of messages placed in that folder as well, all having to do with moderating and running my Groups.io groups.) Your email address is your account at Groups.io, so if you change the email address used by your account it will change the delivery address for all of the groups you are subscribed to, no matter which one you thought you were changing it for. To do what I think you are talking about you would need to join each list with a different address and thus have 20 different accounts to keep track of. Much easier to use just the one address and then have your mail program sort the messages based on which group they are coming from. Jonathan On 11/1/2019 1:38 PM, Lawrence wrote:

Re: Email addresses
Lawrence,?
My email (Apple Mail) does that for me - made rules in iCloud. What email client are you using? You could rejoin some groups with different email address, if you wish. Then cancel the subscriptions that are duplicates. But then you lose the ability to see the activity of all your groups on one page - On the group site of one, go to Your Groups, Manage Your Subscriptions at the bottom of the list. Choose Feed. Do you need to get every email from all of your subscriptions? There is a neat way to use the Advance Subscriptions to just get the first email from any thread. When you get the email, if it interests you, click on follow. There are more options to manage the amount of email. Those with a real need to share print-quality images should be encouraged to upload their photos to cloud storage (Google Drive or some such) and send a link instead. Also, if I set it at strip attachments in emails will that just delete the attachment but let the post through?Exactly right. What I don't know is whether anything is added to the message body to notify anyone that it once contained an attachment and why it was removed. Probably not. Regards, Bruce |
Email addresses
I am in about 20 groups on Groups.io but all of them send the messages to a single email address of mine.
I would like to split the different group topics to at least 2 different email addresses, maybe more, and so fill different folders in my email program. So far I have been able to create another account with another email address but when I try to change the one for a particular group they all go there and I have not yet found out how to separate them. I could do that on Yahoo and even have a separate email address for each group if I wanted to. I am hoping that I have missed something that should have been obvious to me. Any advice on that would be appreciated. Lawrence |
Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group
#membershipapplication
#membernotices
Frances, thank you for the wiki page. However, I've been testing this today and I am seeing a slightly different sequence of events.
I have a restricted group and an active Pending Subscription notice. When someone applies for membership through the group home page, they receive both?the automatic confirmation and the Pendiing subscription notice. The receipt of those two messages occurs without the member or the moderator taking any action or responding to any message. I thought that the Pending Subscription notice is not sent until after the user confirms their email address. But that doesn't match what I'm seeing. For the purpose of these tests, I'm being both the prospective member and the moderator so that I can control the test. Jesse |

Unable to create subgroups

#askmembers
Created subgroups just last night.? Today created new group, with permissions to create subgroups limited to owner-moderators.
When I go to Create New Subgroup dialog, enter data, then click Create Subgroup, nothing happens. If I go to Management->Subgroups the banner says in red "You do not have permissions to access that page" If I go to Management->Subgroups a second time, it simply says "There are no subgroups". ? Did Subgroup creation suddenly break today?? Help. |

Under Admin Settings go to Spam control.
Select all messages to be moderated - All messages require approval before being sent to the group.

I have no solution, but if your group has less than 1000 members, can you not export the list of members to CVS and then send them all invites to your new group? You'll lose your archives and files, but you'll keep your members.

Re: Adding question to +join group
I've advocated for a good process to vet potential members before they join.
No action was taken - perhaps due to the vocal protests of a few who somehow saw it as a threat to non-Restricted groups?... Maybe after the 'great YahooGroups migration' is over, January 2020?, a successful pitch can be made in the beta group (Groups.io suggestion box). or This is the workaround that I use: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/20168 |
Screening new members

I tested this - it works for restricted groups. It doesn't work for "direct adds" or invites. |
