Gmail can be weird.? It somehow recognizes that you're the one that sent the message, so won't put it in your inbox.? If you send it from another email address, it will.? This has been discussed in previous topics, so you might find additional guidance there.

Re: Emails response from groups.io not working

Frances, I did receive both your emails.? ?After that, about one hour ago, I sent another email to +owners, and it is still not appearing in my Gmail account.? (I've checked spam and did a search on groups.io) Weird.

Any other thoughts as to what is causing this problem.? ?

Re: Making members' email addresses invisible

There is a setting to hide your members' email addresses in the archives.

Admin -> Settings -> in the Privacy area -> Hide Email Addresses In Archives

You can change it to "Mask all email addresses in the web archives"

Re: Joining and Login Issues #addmembers #membershiprequest

That notice means that the person has a Groups.io account, not that they've joined any groups.? He should go to your group homepage and click on the Join button down the page.

We'll need more information to make an educated guess on the 2nd issue.

This is surely not a good nor a safe policy for a group, ?because:
1. email addresses can be harvested by those with malign intentions (that is already a pretty risky thing to allow in view of GDPR regulations)
2. group discussions and contacts can be sidetracked into offline or private channels, while the whole idea of the group is 'public' / open discussion and contact.
Therefore, how can I ?suppress or make members' email addresses invisible by default to all except Moderators and above?

Even YG did this, it's the nature of email lists (forums are a different animal.)? Groups.io has had lawyers investigate GDPR and they believe that it's in full compliance.

You can minimize the harvesting by vetting members before allowing them in the group.

The only way to prevent members from seeing the email address of others is to not allow posting.? If you have the Directory enabled, they can always use that though.? And make sure you don't have the Members list viewable by subscribers.

I'm not sure if the addresses are visible "by default" because I don't know what the default setting is. It is something you should perhaps have checked when setting up your group.

However, go to Admin > Settings >scroll> Privacy and set Members Visible to something other than Subscribers.

Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Update Group.

1.? No, once the group is exported from YG, no changes can be made.

2.? You won't get them formatted like that.? It will just update the top line on the transfer page.? This message was created using a record of that information.

The only way to keep system hashtags from showing up is to NOT use any feature that creates them.

Unless you want to have subgroups, it isn't necessary to change it,

Welcome Message Not Sent After Transition

Jesse Nahan

I?set up and set as active a welcome message about a week ago for our group (cpsparents).
?
Our transition from Yahoo happened about an hour ago. A "you've been added" notice was sent out, but my active welcome message was not.
?
Any solution or reason for this?
?
Thanks,

Larry -- Like most aspects of Yahoo Groups, the invitation function can be balky. Several folks have reported here that they had to make several attempts. A hard refresh (Ctrl-F5) just prior to sending may help...or it may not.

Do you not have the necessary permissions to send an invitation? Are you getting an error message of some kind? Does it come up with a status page afterward saying that you have 99 invitations left today (usually a sign that it actually went through)? Have you checked your transfer status page to see if it groups.io has received it? Generally, can you be more explicit in telling us what is happening??

How to avoid calendar hashtags?

Hi,

as non-twitterers or other hashtag adorers we in our group are not really amused to constantly see these calender hasttag symbols appear on our frontpage every time the calender has sent out a new event.

It seems like a Sysyphus job to have to delete these things every time.Isn?t there a feature where these calender hashtags can be avoided for good?

How to find status page for transfer

I am having a terrible time finding the page that gives us the status of our transfer. Could someone step me through this again? I didn¡¯t have trouble earlier this week but I must have forgotten something, We are at stage 3 waiting to be transferred into our premium group.

Thank you!

Joining and Login Issues #addmembers #membershiprequest

Edited

Hello,
I have to issues with a new group (LA Producers).? One is a potential member who is receiving a notice that he is already a member.? He has repeatedly asked for the email to be sent, and it never arrives.? He has checked his junk folder and there's nothing there.? He has his own domain and although there isn't an official web site, the email I send him from my personal email has arrived to him.? I'm attaching the screenshot I asked him to forward to me.? I also tried logging in with his email and got a similar response.? I did a search within our group and he is definitely not a member.

2nd issue.? Another member joined the group added a password and confirmed the email but is seeing "Big Cheap" as the group, not LA Producers.? FYI, "Big Cheap" as far as I can tell based on a search, is not a Group.io.? I asked for a screenshot.

Any advice or troubleshooting is welcomed.? Thanks so much.

Peter Keenan
