I wouldn't pre-invite. You're going to have a big mess with double memberships and everything when it eventually comes through. (btw... hi from an ex location guy)

Solved Re: [GMF] Yahoogroup challenge in migration
It turns out that Y will only allow me to sign in with my YAHOO mailing address - and infers the @yahoo, to boot.
My UID was skipgundlach and my PW one I recall; when I got back to my old computer it filled in the blanks for me but left the pw open so I could make a record of it.
I'm now in my YG - but my invite has not been accepted by .io, so I can't go on with the transfer. I surely hope that will work itself out, as today is doomsday on one level (not that I need to do anything with my YG, but earlier I failed to have two different TG messages make it - I got a delay notice from gmail's server...).

Beginning transfer of our group from yahoogroups. So we want our group to be public in .io but want messages to be private to members only.? Do I select the option "group listed in directory, private messages" option. It gives you a warning when I select this option that once private it can't be undone so just want to be sure this is the right choice for our group

Not sure what you mean by "Current owners have realized that they have made a huge mistake?"? If you are talking about Verizon?? They don't believe that they are making a mistake, they are protecting their company from litigation. Think of all the content that is sitting on Verizon's servers that they want gone before someone hits them with a fine in France or even here.? Yahoo was unregulated wild west free, and it had LOTS of content that would be subject to the CDA or the law in France.
Remember that Yahoo groups are not going away, just becoming list servers where content will pass through.

Ron, Been there, done that. As you find posts made to the old Yahoo group, just email the members and remind them of the change and ask them to email the post to the new groups.io site. Eventually, they will get the point. -- Gerald

I have 3 pretty important Yahoo groups that are in the Transfer que at aroung # 360 or so... in the meantime I think I am gonna go ahead and have my entire YH memberships make the manual migration over to GIO. I did find the page where I can check the Que Status of my transfer,? /edittransfer?csrf=1406299935057669650&transfer=6735? but...the Mapping is not correct.. it has one of my Yahoo goups Mapped to Transfer to the WRONG new Groups IO group.? ? ?the Toggle for "WHich Group to Transfer to" is greyed out or dead. I sent [email protected]? email mentioining that 2 of my 3 group transfers are MIS-MAPPED... but NO REPLY From Support.. I just need to know IF SUPPORT GOT MY EMAIL? I understand the Delay and Overwhelm.. but Not Replying GOT IT to an important SUPPORT HELP email causes one sleepless nights.? I will send it again.but.. how do I know Groups.IO got my urgent Support note.? Or how do I fit the Mis-Mapped Groups transfer request.??

I don't know that they're all transferring, but there have been at least 4500 new groups (those visible in the directory) created on GIO since the Yahoo announcement on the 16th. That's when replying online.? You can always include the entire post by clicking the speech bubble (Quote Whole Post) at the top left of the reply window.? You can also highlight the part that you want to include before clicking Reply (as I did here.)? There's no control within the group for setting this.? When replying via email, what's quoted or not depends on the email interface. I found the process to be pretty smooth after the invite to join the group was accepted. I bet things are pretty slammed with Yahoo's recent announcement declaring an end date for their groups.
FWIW all my members transferred over without me having to invite anyone. They got an email and had a change to decline membership and some did. But it seems everyone came over and is able to post seamlessly. I am getting some process questions but it seems straightforward.
On a positive note, it appears that many of my members are now actually going to the group site to look around. I think we had far fewer members doing that at the Yahoo group. My community has people of widely varying computer skills so this is a good outcome for me.

Will the Groups.IO Admin Staff tranfer OVERWRITE any members so that they are not Entered twice?? Will the Transfer SKIP entering members who are already signed up at Groups.IO ???
Their subscriptions will be skipped...but their content will still be moved.

Becky -- When using the online message editor to reply, you can quote the original message by clicking on the quote bubble (far left icon on the menu bar). Or you can highlight the text you want to quote with your mouse before clicking on "Reply" (as I have done here). When replying by email, this depends entirely on what the subscriber has set up in his email client. Groups.io has no control over that.
I have explained and shared screenshots of how to access the group home page and the threads. I was wondering if this feature was something we could change if desired. So can we change a setting to show entire threads if wanted?
The default quoting behavior of the online message editor is not a customizeable feature. Regards, Bruce

I think it might depend on how you're downloading.? Apparently YG has a limit on the traffic for each group.? If you're using the Dashboard to ask for a download, it shouldn't make any difference.? If you're using something like PGOffline or downloading directly, it might conflict with the GIO download and create delays. But in other cases, we are getting members who are confused because they missed the original message so we end up with a big string of "what's this about"?
