The group owner will need to change settings for the main group and the subgroup.? Under the Files section of the Settings page (way down the page under Features), the group owner will need to enable Files by choosing who can View and Upload files in the Permissions box.? Scroll to the bottom of the page and Update Group.

Why is this? Do I need to change a setting?

Yes, that's exactly what I did, but no change to the status.

Hi,

I have done two invitaions in the last view days without any issus.

Are you sure you are doning it right?

-First of all initiate the transfer at groups.io with the old group name and your new group name.

-Go to your group at yahoo.

-Open ->Management ->Invitations

-Send invitation to [email protected].

-Then look at groups.io and press the blue Update Transfer button.

--The text in the red box shoud change to: We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite.

OK?

Re: Are the two groups I manage still free?

Thank you Frances, I haven't done anything and was waiting to see if there were going to be notices.

Twice in 2108 our Yahoo files disappeared and I was concerned about our future.? I manually downloaded and saved over 2500 files, it took several weeks but worth the effort.? We now have the files saved on external drives along with upload to the .

Will send the announcement?that we should be good to continue but will also maintain the files elsewhere.

If so, yes!
There was musing from Mark about making some changes, but he retracted that in Beta.

Whew!

It shouldn't be too confusing.? They'd also get an email from your group (or notice when they apply online) that their membership requires approval if you have one.? You can set one up by creating a Pending Subscription type of Member Notice.

Our Yahoogroup has been glitching for some time including trying to add new members.? In order to transfer our files, databases and members, I need to make Groups.io join our Yayoogroup, then be made moderator for the data transfer.? I sent the e-vite mail over a week ago but Groups.io hasn't responded which probably means Yahoogroup did not let the invitation to join go through. The only way we've been able to make this work is by sending an email for the person to subscribe.

Who or where can I get Groups.io to go this route so we can transfer the data?? Thank you in advance!

Re: sticky messages only in the topic secction?

Victoria,

In the topic section they stay on top of all. In the messages section
they don?t although they don?t lose their importance and should be
noticed there too.
I quite agree, and have suggested it in beta. It hasn't been taken up (yet).

It probably needs its own Topic to get noticed. But I agree with Frances and Mark that it should wait until the furor with Yahoo Groups dies down.

Re: approving members and subgroup/naming question

Ok mystery cleared up a bit. The email she got had subject: Welcome to Groups.io!
But if you read the message it says:
Thank you for confirming your account. You will now receive messages from the groups you are subscribed to. If any of the groups you subscribed to require approval before joining, you will be notified when that happens.

This is very confusing for members who do require approval. Any way to change or prevent this message from being sent out? Has this issue been addressed here or on Beta?

I have my group settings as:

Restricted Membership

Members require approval before being allowed to join the group.

Announcement Group

Only moderators are allowed to post.

Moderated

All messages require approval before being sent to the group.

New Users Moderated

Messages from new subscribers require approval.

And there is a message to be sent to members upon applying (to ask who they are, etc). Which is "Active".
A member just applied to join using the?+subscribe command
She got the request, replied to it
I got the request as mod
She then got the application form but ALSO got a "Thank you for joining " email. She shows as pending on the member list.?
So:
1) how is it that she is showing as pending AND got the email saying she has joined?
2) how do I prevent people from joining before we can vet them?

ALSO - I created a subgroup then we decided we didn't need it so deleted it today. Will the name of the group go back to "[email protected]" instead of "[email protected]"? Hasn't happened yet, will it reset itself on its own?

Thank you!?

Re: Transfer steps

Deborah,

IIUC, the roles of YG members aren¡¯t retained in the transfer.
Correct.

Since I belong to my YG, in the transfer I¡¯d come over as a member on .io rather than group owner, ...
If the same email address is found in both places, that email address won't be copied during the transfer. So you wouldn't "come over" at all - you're already here.

Will I see myself listed twice, once as the owner and once as a
member? I¡¯m having a ¡®Does not compute¡¯ conundrum.
Only if you have additional memberships in your Yahoo Group, under different email addresses than the one(s) you have here.

I believe that you're referring to the Message History on the group home page.? Those numbers will be updated, though it might take awhile with all that's going on.? Mark is trying to limit other loads while doing exports from Y and imports here.? Any messages transferred from YG will be added to the appropriate month and year.

As far as any of us know, you can't.? Check the status of your transfer ( /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups item 11).? If it doesn't say invitation received, you need to send it again.? There's a short delay between it being received and the notification updated.

The number that Mark mentioned was 500 members (or more than 3 subgroups), so you should be safe even after he figures out exactly what he plans to do.

That email was from groups.io, not your group.? She didn't have an account at the site before joining your group, so one was created when she applied.
