Re: you have reached the limit
I think the reason it causes consternation is because short of the notice that pops up, there is confusion as to whether or not your invitations have all disappeared, Perhap an immediate email explaining the process and an estimated delay time would be an easy way to assuage moderator and owner doubts as to whether their invitations have disappeared permanently.

Invites might slow down this weekend due to the planned power shutdown in parts of California. (Fire risks)
Mark wrote: I think I'll be fine. We didn't lose power last time, although a bunch of our neighbors did. Plus we do have a backup generator. The person that accepts Yahoo invites, however, is expecting to lose power this afternoon. We're almost caught up on accepting invites, but that will probably fall behind over the next day or two until he gets power again. 11. How do I check the transfer status?
?
Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?
?
At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order (unless you pay $200 for priority service).
?
When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?
?
There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.
?
If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). On the resulting page you will see the same series of checkboxes. Uncheck the ones you don't want and then click the "Update Transfer" button. Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.
?

New (2019-10-25) If you have started a Yahoo Group transfer, and the status is the message that starts "Make sure you have sent an invite to your group", that means that we have not received your invite yet and that you should send another one. That message will change automatically when we receive the invite and is not subject to the delays in other parts of the process are seeing.

I'm in USA and about the same situation.? One of my groups made it to "Step 3 of 4" but in ~2 days we've gone from #326 in the wait queue to #311 in the queue.? Two of my groups have been stuck at "Step 1 of 4" for about 3 days (like yours).? I think this is just going to take a long time.? Good luck to all...

Re: Is there a need for two owners?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWith the demise of YahooGroups many lists are discovering how much a missing owner impacts the future of a list. To transfer a list from YG at least a full moderator or an owner is needed.? However YG had changed moderator levels and responsibilities. Last year I tried to transfer a list with an absent owner but found that even though I had been a moderator for 17 years I did not have the authority. My moderator status had not been upgraded during YG changes.? The list had 1800 members, an absentee owner and two moderators on YG. The other moderator and I moved the list to groups.io January 2018, and then this summer the other moderator was killed in a traffic accident.? It is a very active list so I have added two full moderators so the list can continue without me.? If you have a large, active, popular list; a co-owner or a full feature moderator is a wise precaution.? But I know of other list owners who prefer the list to die with them.? Shal, That is a little funny. I was looking at the Yahoo Group and the "old Join date". Can that be edited when users join the new site? Also, any idea how long it will take for the "Transfer" to accept my Yahoo invite? I have not done the upgrade to premium yet? Do I need to do this before "Transfer" will accept my Yahoo invite? Re: PG Offline users
#pgoffline
Hi All,
I've had no issues with PGO on my primary ID however when logging in with another PGO reported a user id or passwoord error. I double checked all was correct but it still failed. When I logged in to the same account using a web browser I was presented with the long ignored Oath updated terms and conditions. Upon reluctantly accepting these I was able to return to PGO and login normally. Hope this helps :-) Charlie

I would think that by merely wanting to join the group they would have a child with a disability. If they didn't and wanted to still join the group, could you trust them to answer honestly? Just a thought. It's your group. There may be some legal reason you're asking the question, so if you need to ask the question, then pursue that. But if it doesn't serve any useful purpose to keep people out based on their honesty (or lack thereof) in their answer to that question, you might be making it harder on yourself to moderate the group. I'm not in your shoes, of course, so there may be other reasons for the question also. Following the same type of reasoning, we stopped requiring approval for new members based only on what we could see--their email addresses. We do moderate their first post, and if it doesn't seem "right" in some way, we put them on moderation and wait and see if they are not spammers or problem members. We can't tell by their email what kind of person they are. Doing that has saved a lot of work when we started a new group since there has been an overwhelming number of people joining them with the Yahoo thing that came up recently. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi all, ? I have read Bruce¡¯s excellent steps ? ? I have followed the instructions more than 5 times, paid the fee $110 before the new price rise Made the transferio a moderator Click on the transfer etc. Our new Groupsio name appears in the drop down list. I click the proceed. Etc ? So after 3 days of waiting and 623+ emails on this subject I have had to weed through since coming back online my group is still not started and the transfer crap is blank. ? Yes some groups seem to be getting through but I feel that our group has been ripped off!? As we are over in Australia there seems to be a problem with GroupsIO doing what it says it should. ? Feeling totally peeved off with the whole thing. ? Has anyone in Australia in the last week been able to get their group transferred as I would like to give someone a phone call to check what I have done is correct. ? Chris VNSC moderator ? ? ? |

Asking potential participants an automatic question prior to adding to group?
Dr. Denver Fox
Asking potential participants an automatic question prior to adding to group?
Our group requires that all participants be parents of a child with a disability.? We also have a Facebook where we can ask them to answer a question - o.e., "Are you the parent of a child with a disability?" to which they answer Yes or No. However, I can find no comparable question - or even required statement option in groups.io.? When we advertise our group.io list to the community, we have? been stating, "Please tell us if you are the parent of a child with a disability."? Yet, when they attempt to subscribe to groups.io, it seems they can't do that. This means we must then recontact each potential participant, ask them that question, and wait for a response.? Taking time and energy. Is there any way around this, or have I missed something? |
