Re: Fw: Data transfer - Yahoo to groups.io
I'm new to groups.io, but I don't think you can do the automatic transfer without the ability to add and promote the transfer bot to moderator. This may not be your best option, but??PG Offline should at least allow you to collect an archive of all your Yahoo! Group messages, photos, and files. If you're not a moderator, it won't allow you to transfer the members, I don't believe, but you could then set up a groups.io, add the sub-groups, and in a while, I believe the man behind PG Offline will have a way to add the archive for the main group. As for contacting Yahoo! talking to a live person might help, or at least get you transferred to someone who can help.??It's a $5 a month fee, but it does look like you'd end up talking to a living human.? |
Re: how do you "schedule files" here?
You can set up a group guidelines that is sent on a schedule.

Please don't cross-post to Beta. That will slow things down.

Newly Transferred Members Accessing the Group's Site
Hi, My Yahoo group transferred reasonably well. The members have received the standard "we've transferred you" email from groups.io. The info about sending posts by e-mail is clear, but I'm uncertain about the process for them to access the site itself. (I'll be sending out a detailed message from the original forum shortly and want to get the process down so I can describe it very very simply) The e-mail from groups.io to the transferees provides a link to the group site. I gather that they're supposed to click that link to the bottom of that site page and click the green "Log In If You're Already a Member" link. That will take them to the please log in page, from which they should click on the "Forgot your password, or don't have one yet" link. Then on the next page they can click on the "Send Log In Link" to get their password e-mailed to them. Thanks. Linda |
Re: Database Limits
#database
the? number of rows you can import depends on the amount of content and other factors involved with each row.
My DB upload times out before 500 rows but I have links to Google Maps/Directions in each row that have to be established.. The timeout also logs me out of groups.io. Mark told us that it's because we are exceeding the amount of contiguous time allotted to each user. Instead of deleting all of the input you should determine where it quit, clean up the last loaded row and start your upload from that point. -- Bob Bellizzi |
Re: Database Limits

Bob (aka Thrain)
Last week I imported 11K, then 25K into the next database. After that there was the hard 5001 import records limit on the next 12 databases I created.? So I think it's a permanent cap, at least until things settle down from the Yahoo transfer. Yahoogroup challenge in migration
Hi,
I have been trying to migrate a group I own from Yahoo to here. Despite my ability to post to the three lists I have there (one owned two other merely a member), and my ability to SEE those groups, I cannot log into Yahoo. Yahoo does not recognize (despite my ability to post to each of the three) my email address nor my email. Receiving a confirmation via an email to that same address as owner, further confounds me. Any insights to share so that I can make groups.io a moderator before it goes altogether dark? Thanks. L8R Skip |

We want to start up with your service.? We were looking to change service even before the Yahoo disaster, the reason we were looking to change is that Yahoo was not supporting their groups any longer and would not help us with a huge problem.?
The owner/moderator of our Yahoo group passed away.? Yahoo would not help us set up a new owner/moderator, Yahoo would not communicate at all.? Without the owner/moderator of our Yahoo group we are unable to add new members.? This presents a huge problem
with data transfer I believe.
Part of your data transfer steps say:
3.1 Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]". If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at?
We are unable to send a membership invitation to anyone, let alone "[email protected]".?? How can we transfer our data without this step?? Can you help?? We are able to log in to our Yahoo group, but
no one living has owner/moderator rights.
We do have other Yahoo groups related to small portions of the larger Bernese Mtn Dog Club of Greater Seattle, such as a separate group for our Board members, our Rescue arm, our Public Ed arm, our general membership group is the largest.? Our intent was to
form one large group with groups.io and have subgroups for the Board, Rescue, Pub Ed, etc.

How would I add her directly???If she has joined as per your original post then there is no point in "direct adding"; in addition being able to direct add depends on what package you have with Groups.io; it is not available on "Basic". I would go as far as to say ignore that suggestion completely; it is not relevant and misleading. Although it is a slightly complex function what happens is that someone applies to join a group, but to ensure that it is a bona fide request Groups.io sends a message to the applicant requesting that they confirm that it is a "real" application, which they do simply by clicking "reply" and then "send". If you look at your list of members anyone applying and being granted admission (again this can be "complex" depending on whether a "Pending Subscription" system is set up) will have the letters NC against their email address to show that they haven't replied to the confirmation email as requested. Please note that while flagged as NC they aren't actually members. Chris |
Invitations to subgroups
I'm confused about invitations to subgroups. I found an older thread (from last summer), that said you could only invite people to join the parent group.
/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8795 But I just created a subgroup for one of the handful of Yahoo groups I'm in the process of migrating over to here, and after that was shown a link to invite people to that subgroup. It looks exactly like the invitation page for the parent group, but the links, (sub-)domain, and email are for the subgroup. So now I'm confused. Is this going to work? Or will people try the link / invite and then get some error about needing to join the parent group first? Anyone know the answer? Thanks, Su |
