We were going to just start forwarding each old message to the messageThere are different types of forwarding. If "From" in a forward is of the person doing the forwarding then every message will be from that member. If "From" is preserved but that email address isn't currently subscribed to the .io group then the message will be moderated (assuming that "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" is checked in group settings) and thus out of order. I'm thinking to write a program (in Perl language) to read a mbox and email each message to groups.io (direct-to-MX, requires your IP-address to have RDNS) in order. The program should be able to handle timeouts, temporary rejections (4xx) and use optional list of pairs: email address in yG archive -> current email address of that person subscribed to the .io group. Also an option to take list of email addresses of all current members, if "From" of a message in the mbox is not in the list then change "From" to some fixed address (like owner's) in order to avoid moderation. I'm sure that somebody here will be able to describe step-by-step how to run a program in Perl under Windows using ActivePerl or something similar. |

I just requested a download of my information from yahoo. You said you received all messages and files from groups you belong to. I read up on what mbox format is. Is this something you think I can upload to a group here? We want to put all our old posts, which contain very valuable information, into our new group here either on the message board or in the files. Message board is preferred. We were going to just start forwarding each old message to the message board here, starting with the oldest. It would be a daunting and very lengthy task. Was the download divided into separate groups? And was each Group separated into files and messages? We have to manually upload to a group here because there¡¯s an absentee owner at the yahoo group. Depending on how this download is put together it could be a huge help to this group here. Thank you Susan B On Oct 26, 2019, at 2:53 AM, Lena <Lena@...> wrote: |
message from Owner but with personal name
Hi,
I know the multiple transfer problems are predominant at the moment and I don?t want to ask this in beta,. Maybe this has been discussed there already. There is an inconsistency as far as sending a message by the owner address is concerned which you can choose in the "From"-field. When at the bottom of the message the personal name of the sender appears. So to the members such a message isn?t really sent in the name of all owners and moderators but by the person whose name appears at the bottom of the message. To me this doesn?t really make sense. I requested a transfer, but didn't check the box for members because our current YG membership includes an unknown number of people who are no longer active members but don't know how to unsubscribe.? For now I am relying on active members to tell me that they want to join, by requesting an invitation.?
If I wanted to, though, could I (before the December 1 deadline) submit a second transfer request with just the "members" box checked?? We only have 328 members. Thanks Bill |
Re: Is there a uitlity/test/browse/practice group?
Sandi D.
I did something similar. I encouraged members in my YGs to create an IO login and look around. Many found IO groups that were of interest to them and joined them. That is really ideal as existing, active IO groups give new IO registrants a richer experience.?

Well I went ahead and deleted the transfer request, started a new one and sent a new invite.
I hope this works this time. |

Is the Help info wrong, or is my group not configured properly?Neither as far as I can see! Firstly set up an "Invite" message in Admin > Settings > Member Notices. It is one of the options under Notice Type. Then go to Admin > Invite. There is a (fixed) template Invitation To Be Sent as the first item on that page, followed by Customize Message. At the bottom of that section (above Emails) is a box called --Notices-- with a drop - down arrow at its right hand end. Use that drop down to add the Invite Message that you composed initially. Note that you can set up more than one Invite Message, and when you use the drop down you can pick whichever invite message is the most appropriate. Hope that helps... Chris |

Erroneous "help" info (?)
According to the Help page, an "Invite"-type of?Member Notice can be "activated". Unlike the "Welcome" and "Pending Subscription"?notices, though, there is no "Active Message" option for my custom "Invite" notice. Apparently, all I can use it for is a place to store text to then copy and paste into an invitation screen.
Is the Help info wrong, or is my group not configured properly? Thank you, -rich |

The banner on yahooGroups pages links to
There I clicked "How can I keep my Yahoo Groups content?", got: "Photos and files can be saved right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can download your data from the Privacy Dashboard" On October 16 I clicked "Visit the Privacy Dashboard page", yahoo!, Groups, the three blue dots to the right near the top, the link to , "Email the code", entered the code, Download. Today (Oct 26) I got an email and downloaded a 1.4 GB file. It contained Messages and Files from all groups I'm a member of, but no Photos. Not only my messages, but all messages, including full email addresses, in mbox format. Incliding GMF (76 MB zipped), YGOG, LH. And all Files and Links. -- Lena |

I think I created this problem, here are the steps I took.
1.? I created a group. 2.? I uploaded a list of members to invite.? I failed to remove my email address from that list. 3.? I was sent an invitation to the group.? 4.? I clicked on the link to accept the invitation on the website. 5.? I am no longer Owner of the group. What can I do to get this corrected? |
