I know you are a whiz with computer programming from past messages of yours I¡¯ve read. I don¡¯t know that much about it but I like to read about the possibilities and their details - such as you provided. I liked your idea that there should be a way to create a program that will do what you described. I notice you were talking about Perl. I'm thinking to write a program (in Perl language) to read a mbox and email each message to groups.io (direct-to-MX, requires your IP-address to have RDNS) in order. The program should be able to handle timeouts, temporary rejections (4xx) and use optional list of pairs: email address in yG archive -> current email address of that person subscribed to the .io group. Also an option to take list of email addresses of all current members, if "From" of a message in the mbox is not in the list then change "From" to some fixed address (like owner's) in order to avoid moderation. I'm sure that somebody here will be able to describe step-by-step how to run a program in Perl under Windows using ActivePerl or something similar. |

While your idea of a public sand-box group is an interesting one, there would inevitably be a downside which could finish up causing more problems than it helped to resolve. You will have your group set up to meet your requirements in terms of moderation settings, moderator permissions and so on and if those turned out to differ from those new members encountered in a sort of playground environment it would mean that your group behaved differently to what had been found in the playground. It does not require much imagination to see how that might work out... Chris |

I first raised it on 20 March 2018 in the thread that started at #6359. I then took it to beta in a thread that started at on 5th April 2018. This latter thread also included the point that while a thread can be started by someone using the Owner/Moderator heading they cannot reply to a message that way; they can only use their personal identity. Nothing has changed; at some point it could be raised again but whether it would gain any traction or not is an unknown quantity! I doubt of "now" is a good time... Vinny,
OATH was a media brand. It is now Verizon. This article tells you of a concern: The article mentions that the name "oath" was unfortunate! And the corporate change: Frances -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |
Re: PG Offline users

I hope that this is not a serious tangent/distraction to this thread, but I am intrigued by the mention of Yahoo Groups users having being asked to sign an "oath" at login to Yahoo Groups.
Since I own and operate over 34 list groups at Yahoo Groups (ranging in size from 8 members to 3,300 members apiece; median ~175 members), I keep my Yahoo Groups main page (listing all groups which I own and to which I belong) open at all times in a browser tab in an Opera browser window (operating under Windows 10 Pro on a desktop PC), and I do not recall EVER having been asked to agree to or sign any kind of oath when logging into Yahoo Groups.? So, I just gotta ask, because my curiosity is getting the best of me: Exactly what is this oath that Yahoo Groups is asking new logins to sign? Is it an oath of loyalty to our alien overlords, or to some strange cult? Thanks in advance for any replies! I appreciate it!? --Vinny |

I just requested a download of my information from yahoo. You said you received all messages and files from groups you belong to. I read up on what mbox format is. Is this something you think I can upload to a group here? We want to put all our old posts, which contain very valuable information, into our new group here either on the message board or in the files. Message board is preferred. We were going to just start forwarding each old message to the message board here, starting with the oldest. It would be a daunting and very lengthy task. Was the download divided into separate groups? And was each Group separated into files and messages? We have to manually upload to a group here because there¡¯s an absentee owner at the yahoo group. Depending on how this download is put together it could be a huge help to this group here. Thank you Susan B On Oct 26, 2019, at 2:53 AM, Lena <Lena@...> wrote: |
message from Owner but with personal name
Hi,
I know the multiple transfer problems are predominant at the moment and I don?t want to ask this in beta,. Maybe this has been discussed there already. There is an inconsistency as far as sending a message by the owner address is concerned which you can choose in the "From"-field. When at the bottom of the message the personal name of the sender appears. So to the members such a message isn?t really sent in the name of all owners and moderators but by the person whose name appears at the bottom of the message. To me this doesn?t really make sense. #transfer - can we transfer a second time if we have second thoughts about a category omitted in the first transfer?

I requested a transfer, but didn't check the box for members because our current YG membership includes an unknown number of people who are no longer active members but don't know how to unsubscribe.? For now I am relying on active members to tell me that they want to join, by requesting an invitation.?
If I wanted to, though, could I (before the December 1 deadline) submit a second transfer request with just the "members" box checked?? We only have 328 members. Thanks Bill |
