Re: [email protected] isn't a member of my Yahoo group

Edward Borg

Hello Moderators;

I still have this issue!
I'm stuck and can't start my groups transfer until I'm able to find [email protected] as a member of my Yahoo group to make a moderator.
Please help me resolve this issue as time is running out and support is not helping.
They just told me they are overwhelmed and to seek help from this forum.

Sincerely;
Ed Borg

invite list from file what file type

Hello all:
I just sent an invite list from a file using the browse to get file which is a RTF listing of email
addresses, one per line, but it is RTF saved from MS office 2003.? So, will that list be
workable from that format.? Can I see the list from "sent invitations" if it was a file?
I realize it takes some time but want to be sure a RTF file type is ok containing
the email addreses..? thanks? Joe

Ruth -- If you haven't read the instructions and notes found at?/yahootransfer, you should.

In this case, yes, you could upgrade your group first...but in general, doing things out of order is the best way to get your transfer hung up.

I believe you can do this at any time before you get to the step where you click the "Give Go Ahead for Transfer" button.

Be sure to click on the "Update Transfer" button when done.

A lot of html code is disabled to prevent things like phishing or redirecting.? A link to the site is the best you can hope for.

Otherwise, you'll find Easy Group Transfer (and a lot of other stuff, too) hidden under the More "hamburger" menu.

So I clicked on "Create a Group" at the top of the page and created my new group.
Now what? do I continue with "Upgrade to Premium"?
Yes, that's the next step. You must upgrade to Premium Yearly. Browse to Admin>Upgrade and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" Button.

I stumbled on the answer today as I was editing them. Turns out that as soon as I edit a page, it shows upmas a blue link. It will revert to gray as soon as I visit the edited page.?
Your response was helpful.?

HTML links with thumbnail preview? #howto

Joel Short

Hello,
I've just joined groups.io and love it so far.? One thing I'd like to be able to do is to use an HTML link to an outside website with a thumbnail preview in the message.? Something like this:

<a href=""><img src=""></a>

Which obviously doesn't work.? Is it possible to do this?

Folks -- Appended below please find detailed instructions on how to conduct a transfer using the Easy Group Transfer method.

See also the new FAQ at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-YahooGroups
To check status of an ongoing transfer:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948

I will be re-posting this periodically for the benefit of all the new people that continue to flood in. My apologies for the inevitable dupes in your email inbox.

Regards,
Bruce

Here is the process. It is not fully automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

  1. Go here:?/
  2. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
  4. You should be at?/yahootransfer. Read the instructions carefully, including all the Notes. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.

  5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs. Help with group settings can be found here:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation [NOTE: Each new group must be reviewed to confirm that it meets the Groups.io Terms of Service. This alone could take up to a day.]?
  6. To use the Easy Group Transfer, you must upgrade the group to the Premium Yearly plan.?You can downgrade to the Basic plan later (i.e.: a year from now), if you want.
To do so, select Admin>Upgrade from the left-side menu bar and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" button. Select "Premium Yearly" (one-time cost of $110 $220) and make your payment.?
(You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)

  7. Return to the bookmarked page (/yahootransfer). Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Set Up New Transfer."
  8. Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group in their respective boxes. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.:?leave off[email protected] or @yahoogroups.co.uk), just the group names.
  9. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page.?
(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)

  10. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]." If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??
  11. Return to the bookmarked page?(/yahootransfer) once again. Select the group you are transferring from the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right (pull down the menu and click on the group name). A new page will come up, with?a status box at the top. If all is well, it should say: "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." If it doesn't say that, the invitation did not go through. Go back to Step 10 above and try again.?
(You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)

  12. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?
  13. BE EVEN MORE PATIENT.?Do not send additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up.
  14. You will eventually receive an email stating that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted. Continue waiting until you receive this email.
(You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)

  15. Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Find the "[email protected]" member record and promote it to a Moderator. Instructions for this can be found at?.
  16. Return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #4 above one more time. Once again, pull down the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. On the resulting page, click the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button.?
(You have now completed Step 5 of the instructions)

  17. BE PATIENT AGAIN. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right?
  18. You may notice some activity in your new groups.io group, which probably reflects partial completion of the process. Do not panic. This is what you wanted to happen!
  19. When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from groups.io summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?NOT?able to transfer. Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
  20. Rejoice.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process.?The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well.?If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

You shouldn't.? The $200 fee is to expedite a transfer.? Apparently there have been some glitches with transferring to a subgroup.? I'd start the process, if it's available, to see if this effects you.

Easy Groups Transfer Qn

Just want to confirm-- if we transfer all our Messages from Yahoo Groups onto the Groups.io platform, messages currently in Yahoo Groups don't get deleted correct?? We want to test out the system with just the moderators first before bringing all our members over (of course, they only have a couple of days to view old messages anyway).? ? How long are the actual transfers taking people?

Re: Can not get transfer request to show up in the "In Process" list

Moderator,
After digging around I can understand why you might not want to post the official answer to my question in the previous post to keep that location from being swamped with items that should not be going there, I'm fine if you want to remove this and my previous post.
