Re: Cover photo choice?

Sorry to say that Pixabay is also not necessarily safe.? I have heard artists say that they found their images shared there unlawfully by others.

I guess a first step must be to look at the uploads by member x and check if the images are similar (= reasonable to think they are done by the same person) or is there such a variety of subjects and styles that it could be simply uploads from different sources from member x (replace x with the name of the member).
And get in touch with member x and ask if it is his/her own original photo, painting etc.

Making changes to an image with a graphics program like Photoshop, PSP, Gimp etc does not transfer the ? to you.

And while e.g. does allow some uses of the images, it explicitly rules out using any image on social media, even a no-no if you give proper credit.

Hi, Victoria ¨C

?

Good to know. Most of my experience comes in the vintage movie field, and in many of those cases the studios that created the images are long gone and the photographers who created portraits in the 1920¡¯s and 1930¡¯s are also long gone. The result, naturally enough, is that there is (or was) a thriving trade in selling duplicates of films and copies of stills, with no royalties paid to anyone. (I have never been in the business, but I know a lot of people who have.) So it is a fairly new thing for me to have to worry about a photographer just waiting in the wings to pounce! ?

?

This is a case, I think, of ¡°better safe than sorry¡± and ¡°a word to the wise,¡± to recycle a couple of appropriate clich¨¦s. ?

?

Thanks again!

No, that's incorrect.? Unless it specifically says free to use or public domain, you shouldn't use it.

That depends on how long the wait list is.? Based on comments, I'd say at least a week right now.

The picture should be as you want it to appear.? The only editing done is to scale it to fit.? Nothing is overlaid on it, all that is below.

after almost 24 hours, [email protected] isn't a member of my Yahoo group

i get a "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." I am very aware of the pile that the system must be dealing with, but how long is reasonable to wait?

Thanks

Re: NEW transfer status information

I wish he included a queue counter on each step. I waited 3 years to transfer my group, I know my fault, but have been in step 1 of 4 I believe over 24 hours. Not sure if that is going to take 2 weeks or maybe even never because of people paying the additional $200 to cut the line.

I guess in case we never come out of the queue we'll try to download everything to PG Offline. But Yahoo is being Yahoo, spotty service up the wazoo. Which I'm sure is affecting Mark's ability to capture all the data. Sigh...

Does Yahoo realize how much it's tarnished its brand with this act?

Re: [email protected] isn't a member of my Yahoo group

When viewing the member list, click the JOINED heading. That will sort the list by date joined. Transfer should be at the top.

Re: Search function

You can copy them to a Word file, then save as a pdf.
If you have an Adobe subscription so you can edit in Adobbe you can paste directly into a pdf file and save it.? Some other soft software and apps will also allow ccopying and pasting into a file to save as a pdf.

Cross posted due to apparent annoyance of critical readers of beta...

For reasons of diverging topic, I split a thread but the photos in line were left out, at least their 'code' remains but no pic. IS this usual as I can't find any previous note about this??

Obviously not an ideal situation, which limits the usefulness of the split/ merge functionality,

Home Page Photo Query

Hello.

I am unable to find the original file of my group's picture in my computer to send you, so will probably have to copy the one being used on Yahoo. No problem - I can do this with good quality.

This has my group name on it, and the second line shows
the number of members (which can vary from day to day).

Should I photoshop out the text before forwarding it to Groups.io, and does Groups.io add the name of my group and members count to the new picture?

I think yahoo added this wording, but I can't remember..

My Thanks.

Re: Cover photo choice?

Thanks for the tip about Google Images, Donald.

?

Further about copyright, I instinctively want to believe that anything I can find on the Web that doesn¡¯t have a watermark or a specific claim of copyright is there for the sharing. But I am always willing and happy to give credit for the source of the image. Am I correct in that instinct? That is, if it doesn¡¯t state somewhere that the author is claiming a copyright, can it most likely be used? Is an acceptable strategy to state whatever is known about the origin of the image and invite the photographer/artist to contact us if there is any objection to its use?

?

Any illumination you can shed on this topic is appreciated.

Susan,

I used Google Images to find one and saved it to my PC, then uploaded
it to GIO for the cover photo.

If you're concerned about copyright, make sure the image isn't under
copyright protection.

Re: You have 1 transfer in process or completed

Laurence,

following the prescribed instructions, I received the "we received
your....." and then I invited the "transfer," droid promoted it to
moderator,
I'm not sure what you received, where, or how, but if you mean the status box that reads "We've received the invite..." then you've said things out of order - it can't have been received before you sent it.

In the instructions it says to click on this and I will be presented
with a new page and a green button.....
You click on the drop-list to open it, then click on the name of the Yahoo Group to access its status page.

I have not seen this message in any of the FAQs or the
instructions.....
Have a closer look at the sequence of screen shots in this Wiki Page:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

You'll recognize the Subject text of this message from the screen shots showing the bottom of the transfer instructions page. There's also an example of the drop-list open to show a list of five transfers, some completed, some not.

the name of the io group is the same as the yahoo group without the
hypen, ...
That doesn't matter in the least to the transfer process.

If the name is still appropriate then sticking with something close to the original will probably be more comfortable for your members.

Shal

You have 1 transfer in process or completed

following the prescribed instructions, I received the "we received your....." and then I invited the "transfer," droid promoted it to moderator, went back to the Easy Yahoo Transfer page and the above message is sitting below the drop down for our group: K9-epiglobal@.... In the instructions it says to click on this and I will be presented with a new page and a green button.....so the question is, am I early in pressing this and just have another cup of coffee or have a made some mistake....I have not seen this message in any of the FAQs or the instructions.....

the name of the io group is the same as the yahoo group without the hypen, i.e. [email protected] It has all been set up with welcome message, a second owner and a couple of members just to test out the approval/request-to-join process.
