Yes, that would work and you understand the side effects.? If you forward them and include message headers, you could even use the search function later to find postings by their information, if that would be of any use.? Might make the message archive a bit ugly though.

There's a good overview of the pending/approval process at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Approving---moderating-a-message

I don't think pending messages on YG are copied.? They'd need to be resent to the GIO group.? It may not be the best way to handle it, but there's no reason they can't post to your new group while the transfer is in process.

IF that's true (no way to know for sure until the date), then it would be best to disable posting on the YG.? Everyone would need to wait until the transfer is complete, then use the new group.? There's no easy way to do what you want.? You'd need to put the 'missing' messages in a file and upload that - awkward.

Once the new group is created, you could do all the steps up to giving the go ahead at any time.? That might save some time down the road.

2 questions: Posting archive messages; how to moderate

We have an absentee owner in one group that I¡¯m moving here as a free basic group. We want to preserve a message archive that¡¯s very valuable to our members. I¡¯m thinking about posting our old messages that reside in a folder on my computer to our new group here. I know they would all post under my name. But would that work? There might be 5000 or more messages.

Also can someone point me to instructions on how to moderate and approve or reject messages? In a group that the transfer agent is working on, all our members are moderated all the time to prevent incorrect advice from being posted.

Thank you.
Susan B

Migrating the Yahoo stragglers

So we'll:
  1. Enable Moderation on the Y!G site
  2. Request the migration
  3. Wait, as GIO's guru[s] are busier than Santa's helpers
  4. Migration starts, but from some reports it may take several days. (Not surprising given Y!G is down to one last 28.8Kb modem to talk to the world....)
  5. Meanwhile, posts stack up in the queue on Y!G.
  6. Migration complete.

What happens with all of #5's posts?
Do they migrate as well so they can be approved on GIO, or are they lost or?

An account is created for each member transferred.? If they only use email, they're done.? If they want to use the site, for files and such, see /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In? You can include a link to that page if you want since it's accessible to the public.

pricing correction to wiki #wiki #pricing

The group managers forum Wiki says groups over 500 members are not free, but Mark has changed that. He removed the 500-member limit for free accounts, for now. He will have a pricing plan initiated down the road but not at this time.

Yahoo Transfer - do members on group.io need to accept transfer #yahoo #transfer

When we? transfer our Yahoo membership to group.io, do the group.io members need to "accept" membership or are they automatically enrolled in group.io.? ?(We have a number of older people and I am worried that the step of accepting membership would not happen easily.)?

How to xfer yahoo msgs emailed after Oct 28?

Starting Oct 28, yahoogroups won't save any new content.

That means that new files cannot be uploaded, and no new messages archived.

We have created a new io group, and will soon pay upgrade to premium.

Our plan was to take a week or two, to set up the new empty io group with our custom notices, our own faq, etc. ... and then initiate the procedures for "easy transfer".

I understand that there is high demand, so we might have to wait our turn for the transfer. Totally understandable.?

But what happens to any new messages from our members sent to our list after Oct 28th? I understand they won't be archived inside our yahoogroups site. So how could they be transferred to groups.io?

The bottom line is ... for any transfers that happen between Oct 29 and Dec 1st, what happens to any new emails sent to the yahoogroups list during that time before the transfer is finalized?? How can these new emails be transferred if they are not added into our yahoogroups message archive?

Would we need to just save them in our regular email inbox, and then find a way to download them into some sort of archive file (I have no idea how)? and then post that into the groups.io?
Hoping there is a simple way to do this.

Yes, you can choose what gets transferred.? See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Step-1-E28094-Set-Up-and-Start-the-Transfer-Process

If it's bouncing members that you're concerned about, they wouldn't be transferred.? Each person transferred will get an email to let them know.? There's a link in it to allow them to easily opt out.

Re: moving info question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have seen this question a lot of times these days.

Yes it is possible but be aware that then all the history in files and photos and all the old messages miss there original contributor.

So it really could make sense to transfer everything and delete later.

You have to create the group here before you can do anything else.? That would allow as much time as you want to set things as you prefer.

If you do the transfer, members are automatically added, so no invitations needed.

If it were me, I'd create the group and check out all the settings and possibilities and go from there.

Attempting to approve/disapprove pending members. When i click the Actions button the drop down menu appears, but disappears when I release the mouse button. As a result I can not select an Action. I reported to support.

Getting ready to transfer our Freecycle Group from Yahoo to Groups.io - Question about migration??

Hi,
I am one of the Co-Owners of our local Freecycle Group. We have been going since 2004 and have a great community of @ 9000 members. I messaged my other Co-Owner earlier tonight discussing if he is happy for me to join Groups.io, pay the yearly premium plan and start the ball rolling.

What I am wondering is about the migration itself.

Groups.io will transfer our group members and the settings. Will I as owner, have time to go in and tidy up the new site, settings etc, before our current members are emailed the invite link??? There are a few things we would want to change and update from our Yahoo Group which were set up by the original owner back in 2004, that we don't have access to in Yahoo... Once we are happy with the site, we would then be happy for our members to begin the move across...

Looking forward to your response(s)...

Cheers
John

I am new to groups.io and still playing around with settings etc so forgive me if this is a worn out topic.? I am wondering if a member of my group can block/unblock a specific member?? I see where threads can be muted, still looking at that.

Dawn and Deborah:? Please read?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-YahooGroups

Summarizing:??No one has reported any way to get them into your message base -- all indexed and searchable -- without using the Easy Group Transfer and ponying up the money. The best you can do is export your messages to your PC and upload them to the group as a file.?
