Re: Notice of Pricing Change

Is there a way to upgrade the group if you are not the adminstrator. ?I was supposed to be a co-owner/co-administrator but don't see the informatoin you describe and I can't figure out how to do the upgrade by 9AM pacific..

Re: HOW TO CHECK TRANSFER STATUS (was: transfer problem)

Linda J and other,

I think one of the problems people may be having is with the terms. In step
2, you start the transfer process. This tells groups.io that you are wanting
to do a transfer. Then you do the invite from Yahoo Groups. Then they join
the group on Yahoo. You promote them to moderator. The next step is 'Begin'
the transfer itself.

It is the terms, it sounds like the concept of start or begin are used twice
in the sequence. The first time you are 'starting the transfer process' but
the second time, step 6, you 'starting the transfer'. Subtle difference, but
I think many users are hanging up on the steps.

Transfer accidentally merged two groups into one #transfer

I have two groups on YG (many more, but two involved here). During the transfer request, apparently the destination was not changed. I'm fine admitting it may have been my mistake.

I caught this on the first transfer (from the one group to the wrong new one) and immediately replied to GIO support that there was a problem and requested that they not transfer the second one (and asked if they can move the first to the correct group). Well that message never got read before they transferred the second one and merged it.

Long question short... where do I go from here?

I can't delete the merged group and re-request a new set of transfers because it says the name won't be available for "a while". Do I ask GIO to delete all the data in that group and initiate those two transfers again? Do I see if they still have to separate files that can be uploaded to each respective group?

Do I put in a new request for the one to go to the correct new group (which is still empty)?

Right now I don't want to do anything without guidance, but I also don't want to lose the data because I waited too long.

What do I do?

pay now, transfer later?

I read here tonight in a message from Duane that I can pay for the upgrade to premium for a basic group and initiate the request for transfer at another time. Is there a deadline for requesting the transfer? Am I understanding this correctly? This is for a Yahoo group with an absentee owner (not for the group I was talking about in a message I just sent a few minutes ago). I have to beg Yahoo to make me a moderator in the absentee owner group before I can ask here for the transfer to happen. I have no idea what it will take to reach Yahoo by phone or if they will grant my request. So I may lose my money. But I at least want to try because there are old messages in there that are extremely valuable to the members and are important to move here if at all possible.

I will pay the premium before we hit today¡¯s deadline for the higher price if someone can respond in time.

Thank you
Susan B

Is it too late for us to make a subgroup?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The transfer agent has shown up in our group as a member. When I set the group up on , I did not include any subgroups. But I should have. We have a ¡°sister¡± yahoo group that we created years ago, when Yahoo only gave a group 100mb of space. It holds only files and photos we could not fit in our main group.

I didn¡¯t know what to do about it so I created a basic free forum for it here, with the idea that I would manually download about 30 files and about 150 photos and upload them to the basic free forum.?

Since then, I believe I have read here in GMF that I could have made the files and photos sister group a sub-group under our main group. I think it would be much better for us to have everything in one place (group). Is it too late to do that now that the transfer agent has shown up as a member in the main group? I have not made the agent a moderator yet and I haven¡¯t clicked any buttons to tell it to go ahead with the transfer.

Thank you
Susan B

Yahoo group transfer request problems

Bud Seymour

I have tried for 2 days to get the Yahoo group transfer request started.
When I send the invite from My 18 year old Yahoo Group....Yahoo says [email protected]? IS NOT A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS?
I have tried over and over again with no success.? After paying the $100 fee ...I starting to worry this is a scam site....PLEASE HELP!? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ??[email protected]

[Mod Note: Be sure to send the invitation from the YAHOO GROUP]

Re: Message "gap" during transfer?

To negate any problem arising from this happening one of our Yahoo Moderators has joined his personal website mailbox to the Yahoo Group so that it will receive all emails, it will also cover in case Yahoo stop archiving messages after the 28th Oct

Hi Bruce,

?

I did click go ahead probably 3 times over the last few days. The transfer page shows that the group is not been even accepted but initially when you do it, it shows up but not now when you revisit the page.

?

The only thing is the Groupsio transfer member was install about 9 months ago into our group and has the moderator rights.

?

What else can I do as I feel our model railway club has been suckered in!

?

Cheers

Chris -- Did you ever click on the "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button?

To check status, go back to the transfer page?/yahootransfer and select (click on) the group name from the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right. What does it say at the top of the resulting page??

And if you haven't clicked the button yet, this is where you do it.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: A few questions about the yahoo change

Mine too, but as of a few minutes ago, transfer is still not a member. My transfer status was accepted and they are ready to proceed but I cannot make transfer a moderator if he is not a member. <grin>
Hoping for better results tomorrow.

Susan,

The first time I tried to invite to join my YG I had the same issue. Long story short, I believe the problem was a typo on my part. I may well have sent the first invite to groups.i.o. (note the extra period). I suspected, and Don strongly suggested, that if the transfer status bar on the page didn't acknowledge receipt of my invitation then they probably didn't get it. So, I sent a second invitation, taking extra care with the address, and the transfer status bar on the .io page very quickly changed to a confirmation that my invitation had been received.?

Yes, you only need to do the upgrade for now and can sort out the transfer later.

Thanks! I too am hoping that will be the case.

Another question. I don't need to initiate the transfer tonight, do I? Just do the Premium upgrade?

Thanks,

Re: FAQ on transferring from YahooGroups #howtoguide #transfer #yahoo

I created a FREE? Groups.io? and asked some of my Yahoo Group members to try it out.? ?Now we want to execute the transfer, so I need to upgrade to Premium.? ?

HOW DO I DO THAT?? ?I would have expected a button somewhere that says upgrade.

OR DO I NEED TO DELETE THE GROUP I CREATED AND STARTED ANOTHER ONE AS PREMIUM?

Just follow the instructions at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Group-Transfer-Process or /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19673 exactly and you'll get there.

The transfer instructions say after the invitation is approved and moderator status is achieved, go to somewhere and give the ¡°go ahead¡± to start the transfer. ?Also important, apparently, is to stop new topics at YG before you give this go ahead.
I am confused as to where and how to give this go ahead.

There is currently only a fee if transferring a group from Yahoo.? If you just want to start a new group, it's free until the new rates take effect next year some time.

At face value, it sounds like all groups will have a per member price.? However, Mark has said there will always be free groups available, ? Until he reveals his plan, I'm going to use the assumption that <501 members and <4 subgroups will continue to be free.

Re: Notice of Pricing Change

Duane,

How do you understand this part:
3. All new basic (non-premium) groups are required to be premium groups if they have, or acquire, more than 500 members or more than 3 subgroups. (Basic groups in existence before October 22 at 9AM remain unlimited for now; however, next year we will be looking at readjusting our pricing structure and moving away from a flat rate fee and towards a more equitable per-member cost. We will keep you posted about all of this as we work through the process.)
Does this mean that free groups are going to be eliminated? Or does it mean that IF you are required to be a premium group (> 500 members / 3 subgroups), then the fee is going to an adjusted per-member rate rather than a flat fee for all group sizes and types?

Thanks,
Su

Group transfer #yahoo

Another question on group transfers. I am the owner of a group that transferred from Yahoo to Google groups a couple of years ago but kept the Yahoo for the archives. The membership is no longer the same. So I don't want to transfer over the members but I do want to bring over the archives to save them.

We're also not yet ready to move the current lists from G-groups over to Groups.io and I don't want to create a lot of confusion with the automatic emails that members will receive if I do add them here. I will be adding a core group of members now but most will be added later.

What happens to the ownership of the archived messages if I request a transfer WITHOUT transfer of the members? Will they still show the original posters, even if those originals don't "own" the posts any more?

And does it matter?

I did just upgrade the group to Premium after seeing Bruce's post about that this afternoon. Thanks for that!

Thanks,
Su

To make suggestions, or support those that have already been made, you need to join the group, the official suggestion box of the site.
