Hi Natalie

In the yahoo group management settings you can set it so that nobody can post to the group. ?I did this and it has worked.

Re: Moving to IOGroups

Thank you thank you thank you!!

And I apologize for the repeated questions but I deal with the list alone and have no help as far as admin stuff. I promise I will do my best to read Shal's messages. I want to take care of my 10,000+ members. They too are asking me lots of questions so my inbox is floating. LOL

So appreciate all your help.

Susan

Susan -- 10,000 members is problematical, as has already been stated. This is because you cannot readily download them all using the Y!G web interface. You should, however, be able to access them using one of the tools that Shal has previously mentioned here.

I have heard $10 and $110.
Well, kinda.

It costs $110 for Premium Yearly. This is necessary if you want the groups.io transfer agent to move your Yahoo group for you, which includes most group content (except for calendar entries and message attachments).

If all you're interested in doing is moving your subscribers, and you can get a complete list of them, then $10 is the cost for Premium Monthly. This allows you to Direct Add (shanghai) all those members into your group, without using the invitation system. This is a significant convenience factor.

If your group is small (<1GB of storage), and you want to do it all on the cheap, and you have a lot of time on your hands, and you can get a complete list of members somehow, and are willing to transfer all your other content manually -- then you can create a group under the Basic plan, invite the members using the list you downloaded, and upload all the content manually. See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19293?for more information on how to do the uploads.

I feel like maybe Bruce or someone should send a repeat message out to go over stuff for new people just joining in.
Okay, I've done that. But to be a little blunt, I've sent 70 (yes, 70) messages over the past three days, covering virtually every aspect of this process. It strikes me as reasonable that folks coming in late spend just a little time?using the message archive search engine or scanning the GMF wiki. Most of the information is already there, if people would just take a minute to look for it.

Hope this helps,

Bruce?

Natalie -- Assuming you have already sent the group a notice of intent to transfer, you only need follow up with those who didn't get the message. The easiest way is to put the entire group on moderation. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Y21group-after-the-transfer?for details.

Shutting down activity on Yahoo! #post-transfer

Moving Progress

Some may wonder if the transfer to groups.io process is working. I sent the invitation from one of my groups yesterday and the invitation was accepted this afternoon. I upgraded the new member ([email protected]) to moderator status and initiated the transfer process using the button on the groups.io transfer webpage.

The webpage quickly (automated, no doubt) showed, "We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed."

So, if you are embarking on this transfer process, my experience is that it takes about a day to get going but it does get there. I'll report what happens.

I noticed on the message Judi sent there was an AVG graphic. The message I got didn't show it as an attachment, but perhaps other email handlers would?

Why is this an attachment?

Taking a guess...some types of embedded images are converted to attachments by groups.io. I cannot provide a clear reason why some and not others.

Also, Outlook automatically creates a winmail.dat file that is sometimes (read: often unnecessarily) attached to messages it sends in html format.

Beyond that, you will have to be more specific as to what the problem is, or (preferably) send us a screenshot.

Not really. But some groups allow hashtags to be "created" simply by placing one in the subject line of a message. This depends on your group Settings.

Is there an option to have a Like button for forum messages?
There already is one, and it cannot be disabled.

Can a group owner modify the display name of a member? (E..g to include Apt. Number)
Yes.?

Is there a display Preview option for content at external liinks?
You mean like Facebook? No.

Are animations like Gyphy permitted?
It is not prohibited site-wide, but many groups don't like it very much, because such things proliferate in the Emailed Photos folder, which may eventually cause the group to exceed its storage allotment.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

No. It is an RSS feed by which the content of your group may be accessed...IF the group archives are public.

Replying to Post #howtoguide

Hi , I am new to the website and trying to understand if this serves the purpose I entail to use it for. Either way , my question is following. Are Post replies visible to all members of the team? And I will be able to find the Post with the hashtag right ?

Re: How to Effect a Transfer (was: create subgroup with transfer)

Robert....

I am not sure that I follow the above.? I want to do one thing.? I want to save 11 years worth of emails from my yahoo group. Will the The Chrome applications that Mark Fletcher wrote do this for me?? What kind of file format will all the emails be in??

I am not interested in down loading a list of members.? I want to down load all the email on the forum.

Is this a tool that will do that?? Are other tools available?

Thank you,

jack
