Re: ListServ
If you mean an anounce only list, yes I believe the is a way. If you mean as a lst serve where people can reply, yes there is a way. I own and run 3 lists on IO. You will have to export yoru list archives as MBox files but that should be doable from themailman interface. Re: Can group owner change a members email-address?
Shal,
I just realized something. Could it be that this bouncing problem of my yahoo members has to do with their non-compliance to the transfer? When I look at the "activity history" of the bounced (yahoo mail address) members, I can see the mails they sent before the transfer in February 2018, but I do not see a single one after the group was transferred. I do not remember if there was anything a person had to do in order to become an active member of the new group. Maybe it was just that they had to write an email to the new group or confirm an email which groups.io sent to them. Could it be that if they didn?t do this (because they didn?t understand the email in a foreign language), only their profile was transferred? But they weren?t fully equipped members because they didn?t comply to the new group requirements? And if they didn?t write emails within a year?s time yahoo just bounced them? Anyway, when I look at their "email delivery history" I can see that - starting about a year later - all the emails which were sent to them via group did not reach them any more. Instead the mails all had this notice: 554 delivery error: dd Sorry, your message to .... cannot be delivered. This mailbox is disabled (554.30). - mta4415.mail.bf1.yahoo.com Sorry I am posing more questions concerning this subject but I try to get behind this. Victoria =- |
Truncated email addresses when included in an email

For example this appears:? ?commodorekeys @..................... How can I ensure the address is published. On two occasions I have simply had to ask members to email me off the group for the address. Tony K

Re: Sending messages to the group owner And moderators
Fabien,
If someone wants to send a message to the group owner and orMessages sent to the group's +owner address will be forwarded to the subscription address of each group moderator and owner (subject to the mod/owner's Owner Email option on his/her Subscription page). In other words, I clicked on the group owners email. If you mean that you clicked on the Group Owner link on your group's home page, that should have opened a new message in your email interface, with the To address set to the group's +owner address. If you filled in a message and sent it, the message should have come back to you. In your case it would not appear to have come back because Gmail does not show in your Inbox messages that you sent that return to you. So to test this feature you'd need to send the +owner message using a different email address. The reason why I¡¯m asking this, is if someone wanted to ask me aThat is indeed the purpose of the +owner address. Victoria,
I wasn?t asking about myself. All my questions related to the 78Sorry for the confusion. I wrote my answers as if I was speaking directly to them. I should have phrased that as "one" or "they", to refer to such members more clearly. Or maybe written as "Tell them 'don't do that'". I'm struggling with your terminology. To start, the Wiki on a Groups.io forum was created as a 'Table ofThe default Wiki home page is an index of the wiki pages you've created. My question is what is the best way to move the additional accidentIf I'm interpreting your terminology correctly, you could revert to the default Index as your wiki Home page by changing the title of the page currently holding the title "Home", or by deleting it. Re: Can group owner change a members email-address?
O.k. Shal,
all a bit hard to understand for me. I didn?t want to do anything, so I don?t know why you write: ***Short answer: don't do that. If you are logged in at groups.io and the email address in your account is no longer working change it to a working address. Now. /account *** I wasn?t asking about myself. All my questions related to the 78 bounced members in my group. I?m perfectly good. Must be a misunderstanding. I?ve now linked a document to the description of the group?s starting page in order to inform the bounced yahoo members that they must create a new mail address if they want to get back in. So I hope I can reach as many of them as possible. Thanks for your help Victoria - |
Re: Can group owner change a members email-address?
Victoria,
So I understand, that if these people stay logged in at groups.io,Short answer: don't do that. If you are logged in at groups.io and the email address in your account is no longer working change it to a working address. Now. /account Long answer: I don't have any email addresses in bouncing status, so I can't say that I've verified this. I /think/ the Groups.io web interface will allow them to participate, with only a warning box. I could be wrong, the web interface may require them to cure the bounce status before participating. Even if they can continue to participate, they are at risk. If they are logged in to Groups.io they should go to their Account page change their email address to a working address as soon as practical. One risk is that if they forget their Groups.io password they won't be able to reset it without receiving the email for the password reset. Another risk is that if Groups.io needs to send them any account-related notice, they won't receive it. I can't think of a specific example at the moment, but there could be a circumstance that requires attention. Of less concern, but still annoying is that they won't receive any rejection notices sent by the group moderators, nor any notice if someone edits a message they posted, nor any any other attempted off-list message from mods or members. What happens if still being logged in they try to reply to a messageAs I said earlier, I /think/ they can still do that, but I haven't tested it to be sure. And after they did this, can they still read in groups.io as long asThey can log out and back in again, providing that they have set a Groups.io password and they still remember it. Re: Question about new members joining one's group

Thanks Shal & Donald.
Your explanations make good sense and have answered my questions. In the past while we were still on YGroups we did have a number of disgruntled members who seemed to revel in not following our group's posting guidelines. We seem to have lost almost all of them over time, fortunately. So for now have unchecked the restriction on member joins, but have left the New Member temporarily moderated post restriction in place. We'll see how it works out. Regards, Paul M.
