Re: Member Access Denied in sub group upload.

Have you checked the subgroup's permissions under its own Admin, Settings?

These are handled independently of the parent group's permissions, and if memory serves they are set to Groups.io defaults regardless of how the parent group may be set up.? You may need to "loosen things up" a bit in the subgroup settings.

In a word; yes.

Also, where can I find out how much of the 1G limit I have already used up.
As you "run" the group I assume that you are the owner; if that is the case go to Admin > + Upgrade (tabs on the left hand side of the web UI) where you will see a Billing Overview that summarises your storage.
There is another way of doing it but as an owner (or a moderator with the correct permissions) that is the easiest.

Image toward 1G

I run a discussion group where I have the max size of images set to 1024. A person in? the group would like to have it increased. What I discovered, looking at the messages and his request, is that although an image? in a message does not count toward the 1G limit before there is a charge to the owner, the image? in the email message has an image file, a .jpeg file, attached to the message. It appears this attached file is what the member would like to see increased, or have no limit on the sizeof the file. Am I correct that this attached file (that produces the image in the email message) counts toward the 1G limit.

Also, where can I find out how much of the 1G limit I have already used us.

Per the title, I changed the group name from LRRH-Hams to LRRH-Ops and it is both are inaccessible.? I am assuming that this may be normal, but is there a standard delay for how long the change may take?

Re: REQUEST LINK TO SIGN IN

Ellen,

Good morning I continually have to request the link to sign into .?

Normally one would not need to log in again each time you visit a page. That's because Groups.io stores a cookie in your browser which tells the software that you're already logged in. If you find that you need to log in frequently that may mean that your browser, or some security software in your computer, has been configured to delete cookies when you close your browser. You might be able to set an exception to this so that you remain logged in at Groups.io the next time you start your browser.
It appears I cannot go to and login
Can you tell me how to avoid requesting the link and just login directly

I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you are not logged in to Groups.io you should see the link to Log in at the upper right corner of the page:

image.png

Clicking that will take you to the /login page, which has blanks for your email address and password, or the button to Email me a link to log in.

If you mean that you don't have a password or can't remember it then take Brian's advice and on the /login page click the Forgot your password, or don't have one yet? link. That will send you an email with a link that logs you in and takes you to your /account page. There you'll find a box to enter a password, with a button below to change or set it.

Write again if I've missed the mark and you're experiencing something different.

Member Access Denied in sub group upload.

Hi All.?

I am having an issue with a member not being able to upload a doc to a sub group of our main group. sounds like I am not alone.

She is active on the main group so it is not a log in issue.?

The folder may have been opened by another member trying to "help". Activity shows she was able to get into the folder and delete and old file during the time she was receiving the message "access denied".

Based on reading archived messages, other suspected issues needing to be explored are

File size
Virus in file

If you have other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thanks

Re: REQUEST LINK TO SIGN IN

Brian Vogel

You should only ever have to request the login link once.? ?After having set your password just going to the Groups.io main webpage there is a login button at the upper right, and once you press it you are prompted for your login ID (e-mail address) and password.? Once supplied you're logged in to the web interface.

If you've never set your password then you need to click the Forgot your password or don't have one yet? link beneath the Password entry box to go through the process of (re)assigning one.

Re: No attachment/photo icon when composing on web

Helen,

I can see the messages you refer to but can't seem to reply.
Those topics are moderated, so if you posted any replies there it may be a while before Mark gets around to approving them (or not).

You haven't posted to the beta group before, so the other issue might be whether you've joined that group, which you would need to do before you can post there.

I will just wait patiently till this useful feature is implemented -
hopefully BOTH for editing messages from message list AND for editing
messages during moderation.
You're too polite. ;-)

Mark welcomes suggestions and even reminders of suggestions. Ignore any naysayers from "the peanut gallery".

Re: Create a private, invitation only, un-indexed group?

Edited

Slim,

?
I wish to create a group for my actual family members only. How do I do that? I do not want the group to be "findable" with search tools, but visible only to those invited.
What Leeni said: use the group's Visibility setting in the Privacy section of the group's Settings page. That will keep the group out of Groups.io's directory and prevent non-members from reading it's messages. And as Brian mentioned, check the Restricted Membership box in the Spam Control section. Look also at the group's Calendar and Wiki Permissions, in the Features section of the Settings page, to make sure neither of them allow the public to view them.
?
You can't make the group's Home page completely disappear - it is always publicly visible. But the web search engines won't find it unless there's a link to it somewhere in public. You also can't make the group strictly "Invitation Only" -- anyone who finds the group's home page or otherwise knows the group's web or email address can always apply to join the group. Such people will appear on your group's Members page, in the Pending Approval list; but they are not actually members until and unless you approve them.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Under the?Admin - Settings tab
Make sure you have selected under Privacy > Visability
Group not listed in directory - private messages.
?
Then your group won't be searchable when someone is looking for groups IO groups and your messages within the group will be private.
?
Only invited members will know about your group.

Re: Create a private, invitation only, un-indexed group?

Well, a private group is already what you're looking for.? You'll note that if you activate the Find or Create a Group link on the web interface, the very top of the find page says, in big, bold letters:

Publicly Listed Groups?(by Popularity)

If you look in the Admin tools, Settings, Spam Control you'll find that you can very tightly control who can join using Restricted Membership.? I believe there is a setting for "by invitation only" somewhere, but right now I'm looking at a subgroup, not main group, and don't see it there.? Look through the Admin Settings for your current group to explore what the other options are.

Scott,
?

?
Is there a way to inject code into a Squarespace website page so that our association members can view the ListServe group topics, etc. directly from our website?? Or is that even necessary. ?
?
That wouldn't be an easy way to go. I think it would only work if your group's Visibility setting is one that has publicly viewable messages. Otherwise the messages won't show for anyone not logged in to Groups.io.
?
With public messages (like GMF's) it might be possible to use a frame or iframe HTML element to display the messages from within your Squarespace site, but I've never tried anything like that.
?
The far simpler approach would be to put a link to your group's web address (home page) on your Squarespace site. Then if your association members click through the link they can choose whether to log in or not.
?
The Association I'm working with ... wants to have a ListServe for members to submit questions/issues for other members to help answer.? I'm trying to figure out whether there's a need to integrate the ListServe into our website somehow or just use it separately via email. ?
?
There's no need to integrate them. Having your association members use Groups.io purely as an email list (post and receive by email) is most likely the simplest approach.
?
That's what most of my PTA unit members to for my unit email list on Groups.io. Those members who take an interest can visit our list's web pages at Groups.io if they want to, but they don't need to.

Gentle GMF Members,

I'd have to strongly agree with the points made by DR Stinson in his post above, especially in that plain text allows one (i.e., me) to set the display to a font/size that is comfortable for me to read.

The other reason for choosing to set my group to plain text only is that, by using HTML/rich text, it can permit invisible, executable malware/applets to sneak in undetected. For that bit alone I reason that plain text is a very useful better-safe-than-sorry option.

Also, with one of my groups many of the members are in a 3rd world country where some of them have very slow Internet service with limited bandwidth which makes plain text (and no piggybacking) important to them to help minimize download time, especially when they are billed by the minute while they are online.

Just FWIW . . . .

Re: Usernames on groups.io

Marcio,

Can anyone tell me how, when, where (...) we use @username ?
Strange as this may seem, it actually has no use at the moment.
/g/GroupManagersForum/message/9473

I'd imagine this could be some kind of thing other users would use to
"mention" the @ in question (such as the Twitter way),
That's one of the ideas which have been suggested for it.
