"Server not responding".

I have a member whose email delivery history shows page after page of messages like this, "421 impin001.msg.chrl.nc.charter.net cmsmtp ESMTP server not available AUP#I-1300".

I see it says server not available but was hoping for further insight.

Thanks,

Never mind. It suddenly became obvious one just needs to start the 5th Thursday event on the first month that actually has 5 Thursdays.

It seemed so complicated at first. ??¡á?

Re: #reply-to-group #messages Reply to sender missing #reply-to-group #messages

I had the same problem.? Mark explained that for technical reasons he could not put Reply to Sender links in plain text e-mails.? Since I wanted that feature to make it easier to describe to members how to respond privately, the easiest solution was to go into Settings and under Message Formatting, check the box next to:
Force HTML Emails

Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option.

Any plain-text e-mail received from a member will be sent out as HTML with the Reply to Sender link you're looking for.

Re: Delays in receiving GIO messages

Peter,

Here's what came back from Bruce's suggestion. You can clearly see where the delay is. Any thoughts as to what it implies?

That first row, from is the hop from Groups.io's outbound server to her email service. That had less than a one second delay, so it would seem that whatever problems are occurring are within her email service. Except that last row, which implies a completely improbable delivery back to .

At a glance it implies a serious misconfiguration problem with her email servers. Either that or she's in league with Dr. Who -- a negative delay should not be possible.

The negative-time hop was from a server to itself using MAPI, an application-layer protocol from Microsoft. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of Microsoft, I doubt even The Shadow does.

Another anomaly, the top of the report does not include the From, To, or Subject fields (and the last hop implies that the message went in a loop ending at ). It should end at her email inbox (a server at her email service).

Or maybe something in that message's header seriously confused the parser. If I cared I'd want to look at the raw header to double check what's going on (but don't post it in GMF, it will likely have private info in it). But it appears she should be bringing this issue to her email service's tech support instead.

Overall impression: mistakes were made. But not, apparently, by Groups.io.

Re: Calendar not consistently sending reminders #cal-reminder

Gayle,

I must have some setting wrong as notifications are sent inconsistently.?

Are the notices appearing in your group's Messages page consistently, or are the same ones missing from both the web and your email Inbox?

Any hashtags in the Event Name fields?

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Not really. Inconsistency like that I usually associate with email Spam filters, hence the first question.

Entering Repeating Calendar Events

Gerald Boutin

My requirement is to enter a weekly event that repeats on a monthly basis. However, one week per month is different than the rest.

eg) Every Thursday except the third Thursday of the month is the same and the third Thursday is a special event.

Doing the repeat for the special third week is easy enough.

But not so easy for the other weeks. I can make the first, second and fourth weeks to each have their own events, but that requires 3 events rather than just one. The fifth is more difficult as I cannot find a way to make a repeating event unless I start on a month with five Thursdays.

I tried starting the fifth Thursday event in the past, but that only makes that event a fourth Thursday event for this month.

Any other ideas on how better to accomplish this?

Calendar not consistently sending reminders #cal-reminder

Gayle Booth

I have populated my group's calendar with birthdays and anniversaries of members.? Each event was set to notify the group 5 days in advance.? I must have some setting wrong as notifications are sent inconsistently.? Example:? next week May 1 & May 2, members have birthdays.? Only notification of the May 2 event was sent to the group.? I just checked on each event's set up and they appear identical to me with a reminder to be sent to group 5 days in advance of the event.? Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Re: #reply-to-group #messages Reply to sender missing #reply-to-group #messages

Carole,

When some of our members post on our unmoderated group they don¡¯t get the usual links ¡°reply to sender¡± etc. Others on the same group do get this on their posts.

Possibly those members are sending plain-text messages, while the other members are sending formatted messages. The two formats require different footer text. See Your Friend, the Footer in GMF's wiki.

Re: Delays in receiving GIO messages

Peter,

The problem only happens with GIO mails.

Following on what Bruce said, if she finds that the delay occurs at the hop from Groups.io's outbound server to her email service's inbound server, then a likely cause is by her service provider. She'd need to find out from them if there's a way to exempt Groups.io from that practice.

Re: Delays in receiving GIO messages

Paste the header of a message that's been delayed into the analyzer at?

This should tell her where her messages are being held up.

Delays in receiving GIO messages

One of my users, who has her own domain, says that there is a significant delay (hours) in getting emails from our group. She is set to single messages and is using Apple Mail, which is set to retrieve messages every five minutes, as well as webmail. The problem only happens with GIO mails. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, it works perfectly well. You just create a calendar event in your mail client and then go through the process of adding invitees to it.? Just enter the group email address as the contact details for the invitee and then send the invite.? The invite message reaches the group with an ICS file attached so may be moderated depending upon group settings.? Once the message is approved, details are added to the group calendar.

I'll create a WIki page and add it in.

Regards,
Andy

If you've managed to get this to work, can you explain exactly how to do it? I'm seeing something in the beta thread about Google calendaring somehow sending an auto-email so the GIO calendar syncs, but I still don't see how the OP could have sent an email using her Thunderbird client to set up a birthday event.
?
Thanks much,
Bruce

How do I add an owner #moderation #owner

I will be leaving an io group and one of the current members will take over as owner, but I can't find a way to make the change.

How do I do it?
