Re: Is there any way that a group member can hide their email address but not their name when posting?

Actually I think the label "Anonymous" doesn't reflect anything to do with what I am asking for.? The idea of someone (anyone) anonymously posting anything at all to our group seems like a real bad idea.? And absolutely the moderator must have knowledge of who sent each message, and that includes the email address at least via the directory (which only the moderator has access to in my group), and the moderator must have ability to directly email anyone in the group.? The only thing I am asking for is that if a member sets up a subscription option to hide their FROM email address (BUT NOT THEIR NAME) to an email posted message.? One of the ideas suggested (by someone I don't recall who) for this would be to simply substitute [email protected]?for the FROM email address.? The ONLY thing I am trying to do is prevent a member from directly emailing another member without their permission, and the only easy way for them to do that is via the FROM address on an email posted message. We already have this "custom" set up as a rule in our group, but our rule is easily defeated by a bad actor in the group because the FROM email address thing.? ? From reading tons of stuff on the subject referred to as "Anonymous" it is abundantly clear that the term means many different things to many different people...so I don't think I want to refer to my request as anything to do with the term.

Re: Groups.io User Manual in the works

I've often thought about making a user manual for my group, as one day I will hand it over to a new owner to carry on. Our group first started on Y back in 2000, and I 'inherited' it in 2009 without really knowing how to run a group. What I've learned has been more trial by fire, and what ever I could glean from help files, but a comprehensive user manual would have helped immensely.

There was no means to paste the url into the post.? There was no "paste" in the right click window.? It is now working, thanks.

Re: Adding Links To Posts

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I can paste a link on the E-mail posting option, but that won't allow me to post to a initial post in a topic.

Maybe I¡¯m misunderstanding- what dif does it make if it¡¯s your initial email to a new topic? ?

Paste in the url in your new email, hit return, your email app **should** recognize and turn the url into a hotlink.

Send it, voila¡¯ you have a link in your initial post.?

What am I not seeing that you are experiencing?

Subscription format change

This has probably been covered elsewhere, but i have a presentation to a board of directors coming up on 21 April, and I need to print a handout soon.

Last time I checked my site today I sat that the subscription request address has changed from [using GN for groupname here]:

GN [email protected]
? to
[email protected]

Which should I print in my handout, and will both still work?? Link to a previous post about the change, please?? I don't want to pass out and invalid way to subscribe and loook like an idiot!

Thanks,

Dan Prall

Groups.io User Manual in the works

Mark has put out the call for any material we (users) have put together to help our members use Groups.io

Naturally GMF's messages and wiki have been mentioned, but I know many GMF members have written things in their own group wikis, files, and otherwise. Anything you'd be willing to share with his technical writer would likely be welcome.

It looks like that is working. Thanks!

I am unable to paste a link to a post I am writing.

If you are working from the group's web pages, use the Insert/edit link button in the formatting toolbar at the top of the message composition window.

I am a group owner and I can find no setting that apparently governs this.

There are two options which would remove this button (and most others) from the toolbar. One is if your group has checked the Plain Text Only box in the Message Formatting section of your Settings page. The other is if you have selected an option other than HTML as your Editor Preference on the Preferences page of your account.

Re: Question Please About Storage.

Obviously you missed Duane's point which is that probably groups.io isn't the right place for that type of group.
Possibly an maillist (email only) groups is more correct.

The point that everyone is missing is graphic type groups, not discussion groups DO NOT NEED messages visible for new comers to the group or members that have gone on special notice. Our groups are EMAIL based groups only.
?
Why the messages are no use to these graphic type groups. (Maybe this is a bug)
When a graphic or Paint Shop Pro tube is saved by email, the name of the tube or graphic is associated with the tube. When the same tube is saved from the message area it is given a number like 0,?0(1), etc. So when members go to save these messages, it cause duplicates because they aren't named right.
?
See attachment
?
They can't even be saved correctly.

This has been discussed on the beta group (official suggestion box for the site.)? I suspect it won't happen for quite awhile, if ever, since that's an unusual use for a group.? That would seem to me to be more appropriate for a mailing (only) list/program.

BTW, updates are made as the developer, Mark, decides to implement or change things.? There is no schedule, as such.

Thank you.? I am trying to cut and paste a link as I do for any other site by right clicking the link or url of the desired item and as I compose the post, I usually right click, and press past in the window that opens up.? That choice doesn't come up when I right click on the post.? The attachment Icon above the post area doesn't work either.? I can paste a link on the E-mail posting option, but that won't allow me to post to a initial post in a topic.

Re: Adding Links To Posts

What are you working on? PC? ?Mobile device?

There¡¯s a ¡°chain link¡± icon on the toolbar to create a link (if you want the displayed txt different than the URL.)
Or just paste in the URL and hit return.?

I think a bit more information would help us to help you!

Are you trying to post by email or using the web UI? What happens when you try to post a link but don't succeed?

There also seems to be a contradiction between your first two sentences; the first sentence says you are unable to paste a link, but your second suggests that you can as long as it is a reply to a posted topic or message.

AFAIK there is no "setting" that impacts on the ability to include links in posts.

Re: Adding Links To Posts

Are you attempting to do this from an email client? How about from the groups.io website? Can you give step by step of what you are doing and what email client and web browser(s) you have tried as well as actual and expect results and regressions if any?

Take care

Is there any Place we can write and request this
to happen in the new May up date.
Just wondering.
Thank you for any Information you can share

You've already thought of the Goodbye notice, but a Removed notice would also send them a message.? If you have neither of those, you should be fine.

If you click the Groups.io logo towards the top left of your browser window and then select Your Calendar you will see that it is an amalgamation of your main group calendar plus the calendars from any subgroup you belong to.

At the bottom of that calendar is a subscribe button. Try using the URL from that to sync to Google or wherever.

Does a member who has been "removed" get a notification? #membership #membernotices

Kristin Thomson

As a list admin, if I click through on a member's profile and scroll down to "remove" them from the list, does the member get an email notification automatically from groups.io? We have not set up a "goodbye" message via the templates provided so there is no default message on our side, but I just want to know if groups.io sends a message to the person like "you have been removed from xx list".

I'm assuming and hoping that the answer is that I can remove a person without generating a notification to them.
