No harm no foul. At least I know not to report it.

Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions but no thank you..........
I will keep my groups in groups IO
One by one deletion for me isn't a big deal compared to the other things
I love about Groups IO.?The most important thing is?a reachable Support System.
From this group to the beta.main group and the support group.
I like too that Mark is only an email away and is really on top of things and reachable.
Google groups and Yahoo groups don't have that.
?
Mark?is doing an awesome job with Groups IO.

I think it's more like 99.9% of groups here that use email archives.
?
Perhaps switching to Google Groups would work for you, as while it also
keeps a message archive, it has an option to refuse access to anyone
except owners.??See attached screencaps.

Re: Bounce probe question . . . #bouncedemails

Donald,

It's not really important but I found it surprising that the message
wasn't proofread well enough before it became the template.
That's actually my fault.

I mistook a proposed change for a reported change when editing that message.

As far as I know the original wording (which is in the wiki page) still stands. I should probably back out the edit I made to that message, at least until (I get confirmation that) it has actually changed.

It's not really important but I found it surprising that the message
wasn't proofread well enough before it became the template. The
sentence that needs some grammar checking is:

"Please take action to restore your account, or you may eventually be
unsubscribed you from some or all of the groups that you are a member
of. "

The second "you" in the sentence needs to be removed to read
correctly. People will get the point, though, whether it gets cleaned
up or not. If it were a casual email from a person and not a
commercial service, no one would really care.

Should this be reported to Mark, and if so, how?

That was wrong. The member must click through a link in the body of the message.

Everyone:

I decided that the example should be in our Wiki, so I've made a new page:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Example-Bounce-Probe
I linked to it from the page about helping bouncing members.

Please help me out if you can by checking it for accuracy, especially if you have a sample bounce probe message newer than the 10th of this month.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I remember that discussion.
?
I know I couldn't get my members to put a hashtag in their email.
?
I can't even get 80% of them to even share and?label in the subject line what they are sharing. They put sharing in the subject. Well duh, what else would they be doing. We need them to put blank tags, Easter Tags, Easter Basket Blank Tags, or something describing what they are sharing. I know they wouldn't do the hashtag thing.
?
They just wouldn't share at all or?join another one of the many groups that share the same sort of things?where they wouldn't have to be bothered with?hashtags.
?
You see most of us came from Y groups and in Y groups the messages could be hidden from members so we didn't have to worry about deleting them. Why is it important to delete messages you may ask? Because our groups aren't like 80% of the groups on Groups IO where conversation is the main focus of the group and references are needed so keeping the messages is important.
?
Our groups are basically graphic groups?based on email.?They are hobby groups.?
?
My answer is to why the messages should be able to be deleted in mass is?a member?can join the group - don't share anything and then go through the messages and snag everything that is in there. Once they are done snagging everything prior to them joining the group, ?they can leave.
?
Our groups are basically Email Groups. All mail should be gotten from their email only and not from the web page messages.
?
They aren't discussions in our messages but Paint Shop Pro Tubes, Gifs, Blank Tags, components for making tags etc?- They are Creative Design type groups and being a member they will get these things in their email while they are a member.
?
(I.e.: "the system wasn't really designed for that type of usage").
Well maybe in 2019 when more Y Graphic type?groups are moving over to IO, the system should change?design to accommodate all?that could use deleting messages or having them hidden from members if we wish to.
?
Thanks, Leeni

That would be the ideal?solution to have a way that that messages could just be disabled altogether if the group owner didn't want members to have access to them.
Please keep in mind the hashtag work-around that we discussed several months ago:?

-- In group Settings, under Message Policies, check the box for Hashtags Required.
-- Set Hashtag Permissions to "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced."
-- Create ONE hashtag for the group and set its Topic Duration to one hour, and
-- Train everyone who is allowed to post to apply the hashtag every time.*

I believe?others have written asking?about that feature as well.
They have...but it seems Mark is disinclined to provide that functionality (i.e.: "the system wasn't really designed for that type of usage").

Good luck,

The system Help is your friend.??/static/help

*Hmmm...another option I just thought of would be to set up an email integration for the group. You could then set the #email hashtag to delete the topic after one hour and just retrain everybody to post to the integration address.

Re: Bounce probe question . . . #bouncedemails

Paul,

When we send a bounce probe to members, does the Groups.io system send
them a message automatically?
Yes, that's what the bounce probe is: an email message. The member must receive it and reply to it (or click through a link) to "un-bounce" his/her address.

If so where can one view that message beforehand. And, can we add to
it our own message?
You cannot, and no.

Here's a message with a copy of the bounce probe's text:

Until recently, you could do bulk deletes using a test page.? Because it was causing too much load on the system, it's been disabled - ? Unfortunately, you now have to do one topic at a time.

The other question I've got a new member and she's tried repeatedly to write to the group and keeps getting messages that the group doesn't exist.
Ask her to copy you when sending a message.? Then you can check the email headers to make sure she's addressing it properly.

The only time that notice will be presented is when you log in using your Google account, so apparently he got confused about how he logged in.

Security Notice from Google

I recently set up a new group and one of the members of that group who uses a gmail account got the following security notice from Google and he asked me what to do about it.

The notice said? ?Security Alert? ? ?Groups.io was granted access to your Google Account.? If you did not grant access you should check this activity and secure your account.

He did not login using his google account or facebook account so that is not it.? What do I tell him.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: Remember sort field/order when viewing photo albums.
This is the counterpart to last week's feature of remembering the sort order when viewing the list of albums. Now the order of photos within an album is also remembered.

CHANGED: When adding/editing an event, replaced the 'Send Invite To
Group' checkbox with dedicated Add/Update Event buttons to make
things more clear.
Having it checked by default caused grief for some groups (an excess of invites), but unchecked caused grief for others (missing invites). Now the person creating/editing the event must explicitly choose whether or not to invite the group - that is, post a message right now about the event.

NEW: We remember your last home page and return to it when going to
or clicking on the Groups.io logo.
NEW: The feed view is now the home page view and the previous page,
the listing of your groups, is now at /groups.
The feed page proved astonishingly controversial when launched. I'm astonished anyway, given that it had been in preview since the 8th of March.
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/30783682

Anyway, the newer feature of remembering your home page means that those who dislike it never have to see it again, visit one of the other "home" pages (/groups, /topics, or /calendar) and it becomes your new default for the Groups.io home URL, /, same as clicking the logo in the upper left of any page.

Comments about these are welcome:

CHANGED: Tweaked the header text for full digests and summaries to
hopefully make things a little more clear.
CHANGE: Changed the SMTP error status message we return for no reverse
DNS and some other errors so that it's a bit less opaque.
BUGFIX: Fixed parsing of a bunch of additional bounce messages (if
you've seen 'Unable to parse bounce message' in your email delivery
history, hopefully this will fix that.)
INTERNAL: Added additional statistics tracking along with improved web
site log analysis.
SYSADMIN: Audited our database alerts and added an additional one for
transaction wraparound.

Please call out any you find significant.

help requested [with bulk delete and a member unable to post]

Shadow Grafix

My co-owner and I are trying to delete a bunch of old email messages from our group (quality psp tubes and tags) on groups.io. These are, for the most part, empty messages and we'd like to do a mass delete but can't figure out how to do it. If it makes any difference, I use Chrome as my browser, I'm not sure what she uses.

The other question I've got a new member and she's tried repeatedly to write to the group and keeps getting messages that the group doesn't exist. I've sent her the group email address and she's sent to that address and still nothing. Her email provider is VCN.com and I'm wondering if that's the problem. Perhaps groups.io doesn't like VCN?
Thank you for any help you can give me,
Judy

Re: Need Approval for Invites #inviteapproval

Bruce,

this restriction exists. Yahoo has a similar restriction, but it kicks
in at 100 invitations instead of 20.
There's a very significant difference.

Yahoo's restriction is a true restriction: the mechanism will not allow more than that.

On Groups.io the limit is merely a trigger for moderation. One can Invite/Direct Add your full list at one time, and all of them will be approved at once.

No, the limit is for all groups.? Looking at the message that Bruce linked to, it clearly states "Now, if you invite/direct add more than 20 people in a 24 hour period, your invite/direct add will be moderated and subject to being approved by me, which I will try to do quickly."
