Hello, it just means that your group is an announcement group only. So in order to posting a, an owner or somebody who you make a moderator.

to Moderator only.

What is Group Announcement?

Do you mean Announcement Group?

That's a group where only moderators are allowed to post messages. Just as it says on the Settings page.

I would, just so that they don't worry that something has gone wrong or that the group has been "hacked" (that seems to be a popular catch-all worry these days).

with so that there does not have to be a change if when you create

Partially it is history - subgroups weren't in the initial rollout of Groups.io. A lot of water under the beta bridge, just about three years ago.

Also I think the idea is that the default case (no subgroups) should have a "normal" list address, like other list services (list name to the left of the @ sign, hosting service to the right).

I think at one point I suggested in beta that the subdomain form be accepted from the start, to prime the pumps as it were. I don't find that post at the moment.

But that didn't go as far as your suggestion, which is to make it the address from the start. I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth from group owners who don't intend to ever have a subgroup. But if existing groups are grandfathered as-is and all new groups start off with subdomain addressing that might not be such a bad thing. Over time it becomes the new normal (at least for groups on Groups.io).

I am in the process of deleting very old messages from when my group was on Yahoo. The messages are all blank. There isn't anything in them. I went to work on deleting them and I got the following message ? Did I miss something in chat here? Or is this now a bug? ?

I'm not sure there's actually a distinction between PC or mobile in Groups.io's rendering - I think it is all based on screen size. For example, if on my PC I drag my browser window to be very narrow I get the same layout that I see on my smartphone.

On the other hand I don't seem to be able to "zoom out" enough on my smartphone to see all the buttons. Perhaps if Su's bug report gets attention this will get better for mobile too.

No.

The transfer requires pre-payment of a year ($110), but you can let the group revert to Basic when the year is up.

Fair point, but reductio as absurdam the result is that if anyone, or a whole group of people, thought a proposal was way off target then they would be unable to say so, however honest their assessment and however politely they expressed their view.?

Certainly ad hominem attacks must be avoided but there has to be room for honest criticism of an idea.

I am in the process of starting up two new groups. We will hopefully be migrating from yahoo shortly. We're in a trial stage right now.?

As I said, I'm the owner of two groups. I have two questions.?
1. I will be hopefully transferring the groups from yahoo. I see that in Feb it changed so that you need to have a Premium account for that to work. Can I just have one premium account to transfer both my groups??

2. The two groups are a common interest, but one is elected officials and the other is comprised of elected officials and members. There is *some* overlap in the membership between the two groups.? We would like to prevent members from being able to post to both groups from one email using the group addresses from their email client. We'd prefer that they post the same message individually to each group. It gets confusing for people when they are trying to figure out to which group they are replying. We can certainly ask folks not to do that, but is there a setting anywhere which would prevent someone from addressing an email to both groups? (I kind of expect not, but just checking.)

And a final question. I've only added a few select board members to try out the groups. I've sent them individual email invites. They have not been prompted to create an account here with user name and password. They can post to the group by using the group email address from their email. If they select "New Topic" from the bottom of another email, they're prompted to a page to login. Is there a way to bypass that login, or is that the main scenario in which people do need to register for an account?

I have the Remove Other Reply Options box NOT check.? And have it set to Group and Sender

I see the ability to reply to group and the ability to reply to send if it is a reply to an email, but if you access it on the web you only set the option to Reply to Group And Sender

Also, I only know about this topic because I get a digest where it is listed...but If I am on the website and click on Topics the Reply to Sender topic is not listed??

I have reported the bug and suggested that at least it should give a small message saying what to do to get the full toolbar. I will report back if I hear anything helpful / specific.
