On the end of this message from the group the unsubscribe link was:
/g/GroupManagersForum/leave/defanged

Does that really mean my ID in this group is either 1138723 or 18......46 or
even xyzzy ?

No, the member obviously did?t get emails. But she received the automatically sent questionnaire and answered it. The address is correct. So I did as you said and sent "confirmation email". I hope this?ll work. Thanks.

Re: Yahoo transfer #transfer

Brent,

Existing transfers is blank. So, perhaps yahoo is not sending the
invitation?
If you mean that the drop-list contains no entries, then what Bruce said. Your transfer status page is created when you Set Up A New Transfer, not when Groups.io receives the invitation from Yahoo.

Now, you may be right about Yahoo not sending the Invitation. That's been known to happen. But in order for Groups.io to know who sent the invitation, and which Groups.io group it relates to, you must set up the transfer first. Note that the list only shows transfers initiated by you, logged in with the same email address as when you initiated the transfer.

In addition to Bruce's excellent message, see GMF's wiki on the topic:

If your group to be transferred does not appear in the Existing Transfers pull-down at the bottom of the Yahoo transfer page, you are still in Step 0. Sending the invitation is Step 2.

Full instructions can be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8697. Do not do anything out of order.

Hope this helps,

Re: saving updates to calendar

I am having a problem with this also.? I cannot edit a recurring calendar event.? It does not save the edits at all if I choose All Events?at the "Would you like to change only this event or all events in the series?" prompt.? If I choose Only This Event at the prompt, it does change the first event in the series.? So I tried then to edit each event in the series this way (by choosing Only this Event) and it will not work for any of the events after the first one. Basically there is no way to get an edit to be saved with any event after the first in the series.?

Any recent developments to address this?

Re: Yahoo transfer #transfer

thanks for that info. Existing transfers is blank. So, perhaps yahoo is not sending the invitation?

Transfer not showing in Yahoo member list. Transfer must show in member list to be promoted to moderator.

Re: Option to not be told that message was already approved?

Ummm... Isn't that proving my point? I send a message, rejects it and an email gets sent back to me.?

You are saying that returns a 500 (email rejected) error. I'm saying that is sending a reject message.

If didn't reject it, the email would never be sent.? The ESP isn't generating the email on its own.

No, it's from the email service provider (ESP).? When the ESP attempted to send the message, returns the 500 error to them, so they send the report to the originator.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new

CHANGE: When setting up a hashtag alias, make the explanatory text
more clear.
Thanks Andy!

Comments about these are welcome:

CHANGE: Made group icons clickable in the mobile home page.
CHANGE: Added a switch to summary button when unsubscribing from the
Edit Subscription page.
CHANGE: Increased the write timeout of the api server to partially fix
an issue where archive downloads were taking a long time to
generate.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Yahoo transfer #transfer

Brent,

Yahoo does not show the invitation in the yahoo activity log and group
io has not accepted.
If you haven't, look at your "Existing Transfers" page for this transfer, found through the drop-list at the bottom of transfer instructions page. That should tell you if Groups.io has received the invitation.
/yahootransfer

There's often a delay between when they receive it and when they accept it because accepting it requires manual intervention (solving a CAPTCHA test).

Re: Spamfilter

Duane,

... but the member's site ID is something else entirely. That can be
found by either looking at their profile or choosing 'all posts by
this member'.
I had been wondering about the this number. My site-wide posterid is 129 (All Posts By This Member). I wondered if that id name is literal: the 129th user to post a message, rather than the 129th user of Groups.io.

However you, Duane, show 1289 for both your posterid and your profile link in GMF's Directory. So maybe the fact that that number shows for your profile link does mean that it is a user number - since in that position it couldn't depend on you having already posted a message.

For those interested, you can find your own subscription (aka group member) ID in any group in the unsubscribe link in an email footer (I'm 193 in GMF, 9089 at beta).

Which, by the way, is why one should always trim the footers before forwarding a group message to someone else!

Re: Option to not be told that message was already approved?

Samuel,

1. Is there a way for a moderator to prevent receiving this error
message?
I've sometimes wished there were. I think this was discussed in beta ages ago, but I'm not currently divining a search keyword unique enough to find it among all the other discussions of email and approval.

It is one of the reasons I now do almost all of my groups.io approvals via web. Even on mobile, instead of replying to the email message I'll click through the (now conveniently placed) link to the site.

Of course, another factor is that I'm usually in reach of WiFi, so the data exchange getting to the site is both fast and free. Especially true with the lightweight pages at groups.io. With Y!Groups I still approve by email predominantly because I don't want to wait for all their garbage (ads and tracking cookies) to load before I can do anything.

2. Wouldn't it be better if the subject line said something like
"Thanks, but message already approved" ...
As you already discovered, the actual email is generated by your service, in response to the failed status value given by Groups.io during delivery of your reply. So the only part of that message Groups.io can improve is the text of the status value, which is usually quoted somewhere in the body of the failure notice.

It looks like a bounce/reject message from to me. I also find them very annoying and pointless. I'd rather get nothing at all. We have multiple moderators and each one thinks they've done something incorrectly when they get those messages..

Thanks for your input -- I'll clarify this when posting it as an RFE.

On my list, new members' posts are moderated, and as moderator I receive notification if there are pending messages. In this case, I approved the message via the web site, but then, later, when I opened my e-mail program, and I saw that message's "pending" notification, I replied to it (force of habit), but expecting nothing to happen.

Looking at this again, I believe that the "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" is not from Groups.io but from my mail provider. Approving a pending message is done by sending a message to a specific, temporary e-mail address, and I suppose that if you send multiple message to that temporary address, the address replies with an error 500:

Turns out we were both wrong.? I figured out this morning that a new member ID is assigned for each group someone joins, but the member's site ID is something else entirely.? That can be found by either looking at their profile or choosing 'all posts by this member'.? Based on this, I'd say the number of site users is around 1,715,000 and the number of group members is the 4,000,000 number.? Apologies for the bad information.

I certainly agree that your suggested wording is much better than the current message; that could go as a suggestion on beta just as it stands as I would expect changing the wording would be quick and easy for Mark.?

I deduce from your post (perhaps incorrectly) that your settings result in moderated messages not being sent to you, which is fair enough but being able to turn off an "already released" notification at the same time would leave the moderator with no idea if the message had been released or not; perhaps not such a good idea.?

If you do put this on beta I would suggest that you include the reason that at present there is no clue about which message was undeliverable, and that as worded it could apply to something other than Groups.io, and that the change of wording would eliminate that uncertainty completely.
