Andy,

The other effect of course is that it prevents outgoing HTML posts.
Lesson learned!
I minor technical point, but it isn't so much that it controls outgoing posts, as that a posting made on site is handled as an incoming post, up to the point where it is approved (or posted, if it doesn't need approval).

So the web interface hides the formatting controls as they could only cause confusion when the message posted without formatting.

Yes. The Admin pages in a group can only be seen by a group moderator (with appropriate permissions) or group owner.

NEW: Added more tracking query parameters that are removed with the
clean links button.
Ok, so apparently this function is more about "sanitizing" links (for your protection) than removing them. So to see its effect one would need an example of a "dirty" link.


Comments about these are welcome:

BUGFIX: Fixed search query escaping (phrase search and regex search
was broken).
CHANGE: Wiki Table of Contents now span the entire page.
BUGFIX: Fix display of text/calendar attachments when viewing
messages.
BUGFIX: For long messages with multi-byte characters that were
creating new topics, we would sometimes improperly truncate the
topic summary, causing a database error and the message to not be
sent.
BUGFIX: Sometimes we'd display the Subgroups tab under the Admin menu
when the person didn't have permission to access it (only the tab
was displayed, they would get an error if they clicked it).
BUGFIX: If a person cannot post or respond to a poll, do not show the
Add Poll tab in the sidebar.
NEW: In premium groups, if a calendar invite is sent to the group, the
event now is automatically added to the group calendar.
INTERNAL: Simplified how signatures are stored in the system, fixing a
couple of corner case bugs.

I had no idea, so I tested it in my test group.

If you compose a message in the online editor and insert a moderator-restricted hashtag, the message does not go out when you hit the Send button. The page instead refreshes, with an error to the effect that the hashtag is reserved; and the message remains in Draft form, waiting for you to edit the subject line.

If you send one to the group via email, a return email comes back stating something similar, with an "editsubject" link that allows you to go edit the message (online) and resend. It is neither Rejected nor Pending, but again appears as a Draft, just as if you had initiated it online. I didn't expect that, but it makes sense.

If you aren't logged in at the time you click on the link, you are taken to the login page. After you complete login the editor is immediately displayed, with the draft ready to be edited. Sensible. If you happen to be logged in with a different account at the time, clicking on the emailed link takes you to the group home page, with no explanation as to why it "didn't work." So that's somewhat disconcerting.

If a non-subscriber does the same (in a group that allows non-subscribers to post), the message goes into Pending status and awaits moderation, as usual. If the message is subsequently accepted, it posts to the group complete with the hashtag, regardless of the hashtag use restriction.

Chris,

Are you a Basic (free) group or one that is paid - for? If the latter
are you payments up to date or overdue?
I don't think that matters. A past-due payment causes the group to revert to Basic, it doesn't disable it altogether.

If you cannot find anything then an email to [email protected]
looks like the best bet.
Given the evidence I concur. I don't see anything in the Group Settings listed on the home page that would explain an inability to post.

Don,

There is no evidence in the logs that the messages have been received
by the system.
That's interesting. And worthy of your request to support. Any message correctly addressed to the group's posting address should be in the logs, either as "attempted to send" (a rejection) or "sent message" (either posted or requiring approval).

I attempted to create a message in the web interface and that is not
showing in the activity log.
That's even more peculiar.

If there's a technical glitch I can't do anything about it (only support can), but I'm curious. Mind if I try a test posting in your group? I'd be a new member so you should be able to catch my message in pending and delete it.

I understand that replies to a message with such a hashtag work and continue to contain the hashtag, but what happens with an original message from a non-subscriber? Is the message moderated or rejected or something?

You are probably out of storage space...Basic groups are restricted to 1 GB of storage. Current usage can be found by going to Admin>Upgrade. See the wiki entry at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos?for further details and remedies.

If you've already checked under Admin>Upgrade and are well under the 1 GB limit, it could be that you've logged in using an email address that does not have file upload permissions. Check the Home button at upper left for a blue Owner badge to ensure that you're logged in with an Owner account.

  • ?Messages are set to reply to group.

  • ?Members can edit their posts.

I am having the exact same problem. All messages I send to one of my groups gets flagged by gmail when it is sent back to me. This is not an @gmail.com account, but business account with @domainame.com that runs through the gmail servers. Could that make a difference?

While logged into groups.io with your comcast account, go to /account?page=prefs, scroll to the bottom, and make sure the My Posts checkbox is checked.

Failing that, this could represent over-aggressive email filtering on the part of comcast. Spammers will often insert your own email address as the From address of a message to send you spam (this is known as spoofing:? ). Because of this, some email services now check the From address of any message and if it's the same as the receiving address but did not originate from one of their mail servers, filter it out.

I don't know enough about comcast to advise on whether they provide any settings to fine-tune this behavior.?Some folks have found it necessary to turn off spam filtering entirely so as to reliably receive group messages.?You can also check your spam folder, but in my experience such messages are usually sent to the bit-bucket.?
