Re: Unmoderate new group members

I believe, you can uncheck the checkboxes, so you don¡¯t have to approve posts. However, I¡¯m not sure how to do it, for a specific person. I believe you click on their profile, for the new member, and click on the check box where it it doesn¡¯t need approval. Someone please correct me on this though.

Unmoderate new group members
Our
list was migrated from yahoo a few months ago.? I need to add some new
members - do they have to be moderated on their first post? Is there a
way to disable this?? And, I am not sure what would be the correct
setting for the following but our list is not moderated at all and it is
a private list. All posts require approval before being sent to the group.

Posts from new subscribers require approval.

Re: Owner left
It seems that you're the only owner left so you can't leave.? You'd need to delete it at the bottom of the settings page.? Go to the Home page of the group to see if there's an Owner badge next to the Home item on the left menu.? You can always go to the Admin > Members page, then select Moderators from the Members dropdown to see the status of any remaining.? If there are no other owners and you can't delete the group, you'll need to contact Support.

Re: Owner left
Fabien
I¡¯m not sure. If you have any way of contacting the owner, to ask him or her what to do. Or what the plan is. I just created a group myself, and only have a few members. It is for my YouTube channel primarily, but it¡¯s also, used to ask people or talk about assistive technology, accessible games for the blind and such.

Re: Does a message recipient that is in multiple subgroups receive multiple copies of same email?
Roger,
If a message is sent to all three subgroups, does John receive threeA person who is a member of all three subgroups would be sent three copies of the message. Each with its own subgroup-specific subject tag and footer. Whether that person sees all three copies depends on their email interface. Gmail, for example, will show only one copy and hide the duplicates. I don't think you can control, or even predict, which copy is shown. As far as I know, Gmail is rather unusual in doing that. ... is there a setting that enables receipt of only one copy of theNo. Since a member of any subgroup must also be a member of the primary group, it is possible that in this scenario the better option would be to post the message to the primary group. Then everyone would be sent only one copy. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Non news about Mark?I'm not sure what you mean. Does a message recipient that is in multiple subgroups receive multiple copies of same email?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOr, does??send only one copy of the message to the recipient? ? For example,?john@...?is a member of three different subgroups. ? If a message is sent to all three subgroups, does John receive three versions of the same email (or does the system eliminate all but one message)? ? The use case I am inquiring about includes the same email address within multiple subgroups (not different email addresses for same recipient). ? If the answer is ¡°no¡±, then is there a setting that enables receipt of only one copy of the message?? Thank you.? Roger |

A generic Web link for non-members asking to join
Hi,
My group is closed to the public but I still want potential members to ask to join.? In Yahoo there was a slick formula that I would place on any Web page and all someone would have to do is type their E-mail address and click send or join and the list owner would receive the request to join. One is like this: While the other is like this: In the second one the "Reply Options" simply don't feature, which is rather puzzling, because I assume that Groups.io adds the "footer" to the poster's original. i have three members that have accepted their invites, they are in the Members list, yet the Invite list has them as Sent, not Accepted. Our group is by invite only and only members can post. This situation has been mentioned before (Ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/27398965). The consensus opinion seems to be that the member(s) somehow got approved without clicking on the link in the emailed invitation. A Direct Add could do this...or if you invited some of these folks to your group early on and they subsequently got added via Yahoo transfer, that would also leave the invitations in limbo. So the first question is:? Has your group always used the Restricted method of Spam Control?? Try searching the activity log for join information. The best way I've found to do this is to go to Admin>Activity and enter the subscriber's email address in the Search box. This will return all activity logged for that account (i.e.: not just the activities that the subscriber initiated). Now click on the blue Search button and click on the Created link to sort early entries to the top. If the user was added via transfer, it will say "Support added." Otherwise, check whether the "invited" and "accepted invitation" entries are in proper sequence, and/or whether the subscriber got into the group by some other means.? If you continue to see anomalies, I think we would all be grateful for the results of any testing you might do to chase this down for good.?? Re: Asking a question of new subscribers before approving
People ask to join our main group in several ways - through Groups.IO, through word of mouth, some books or other web sites list us as a resource (we are a peer support group). No matter how the referral comes to us, we have a "form letter" that is manually sent by one of the moderators - we have shifts so 4 of us can take turns checking our group email account and the Pending member list. Our letter tells a little more about the group and includes the questions we want to ask of new members. AFTER we get a response to that email then we "Approve" or "Add" the member and they get the automated Welcome Letter through Groups.IO.
It really isn't that much of a problem - we only get a few inquiries a week now (after over 20 years the size has leveled out!) and our form letter is stored as a template so our "check the email" chore usually takes only a minute or two. I can see wanting to automate this if you get dozens of requests, or if you are the only person responsible for it, but actually, we like to have that bit of personal contact before adding a new person. I know there are lots of ways groups have handled the issue of needing more information or verification - just sharing what works for us. Barb |
