Asking a question of new subscribers before approving

Hi,

I'm happy that the Yahoo Easy transfer wizard is working. I transferred my group, and all went well.?

When we were with Yahoo, we set things up that a new subscribe request required folks to answer a question before being approved.?

Does Groups.io have such an option? I've been through the admin section, and haven't seen anything that looks like what I want.?

Thanks in advance,

John Myers

Questions about creating a group

Fabien

So I just created a group, and was wondering, if someone sent a email through the help email, or the unsubscribe or subscribe emails, how do I receive them? Is there a way I can add the emails to my phone? Or do I have to log in and check them that way?

Re: Would like to make a group.

As long as your group will meet the Terms of Service, /static/tos, especially the "Conditions of Use" section, there should be no problem having it here.? You can compare available features at /static/pricing.? If you're not sure, you can start with a Basic (free) group and upgrade later if needed.? You can also upgrade and downgrade as needed if you use the monthly plan.

Would like to make a group.

Fabien

Hello,
I am new on these group platforms, and would like to make a group for my YouTube channel. Is that acceptable to do? If so, which subscription do you recommend?

Re: Reply to a post gets undeliverable message

Leeni

I have had that happen to me too and I questioned it but didn't receive any answer so I dropped it.

When clicked on to send a new email to that person whose address is like that (the members who sent the original email) it can't be?delivered.
But if you reply to it, it gets delivered.?

Look at the email address it said it could not deliver to:
greecianhoney@...
That is not a valid email address.? Groups.io now disguises the sender's email addresses.? Removing the equal sign and putting in the ampersand and getting rid of groups.io would give you the reply to address that is needed (assuming it is not going back to the group but just to the sender).? I am not familiar with what Office365 and Outlook use.? Shal might jump in here and tell us but there is a return address and there is a reply to address and the two may not be the same.? At any rate,? what is causing your problem is that Outlook is using that disguised address as the reply to address and it is not a valid email address by design.? If the sender selects "reply to all" rather than reply what address does it use (the group? or the sender?)?? That would give you a clue.

Good luck.

Transfer Process Tip

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

If you're transferring more than one group, especially if you have subgroups, make sure you start from the home page of the group you want to transfer before clicking on the Easy Transfer link at the bottom of the page. You cannot click that link and then select another group's name from the drop-down list to send orders for other groups. The orders won't take.

Neither can you initiate a transfer, hit the back button, and then select a different group from the drop-down to initiate transfer. Otherwise, you will end up waiting days before you realize the transfer for those subsequent groups you selected from the drop-down did not actually initiate. You must go back and start at the beginning from the home page of the group you want to transfer to initiate each transfer.

Always start at the group's home page to change anything within a group, even if you can see notices and selections for other groups. To confirm orders actually sent, and where they are in the transfer process, look at the Existing Transfers drop-down list to see each group's status.

Hope this helps some of you not wait as long as I did to move into groups.io.

Very peculiar. I suspect that whatever email client she is using (Microsoft Exchange?) is addressing her replies to the "From:" field instead of the "Reply-to:" field in the message header of groups.io emails. If this behavior is not configurable, she may have to switch to a different email client, or just get accustomed to typing in the group address manually.

To provide more help we will need to know what client/software/program running on her iPad that she is using to download/compose/reply to messages.

Your message couldn't be delivered. When Office 365 tried to send the message, the external email server returned the error below. This is probably due to a problem or policy setting on the recipient's email system.

Check the error for information about the problem. The error might tell you what went wrong and how to fix it. For example, if it says the message was blocked due to a potential virus, try sending the message again without attachments.

For Email Admins
This error was reported by an email server outside Office 365, and if the sender is unable to fix the problem by modifying their message then it's likely that it's a problem that only the recipient's email admin can fix.

?

  1. Check the error for information about the problem.?The error might tell you what went wrong and provide clues for how to fix it. For example, if it says the message was rejected due a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) issue then you'll have to work with your domain registrar to properly configure your SPF record.
  2. Check the error for information about where the problem is happening.?For example, look for a domain name like. This tells you which organization was responsible for the error. The recipient's email server could be causing the problem, or it could be due to a third-party service that your organization or the recipient's organization is using to process or filter email messages.
  3. If you can't fix the problem, contact the responsible party's email admin.?This could be the recipient's email admin, your smart host service admin, or someone similar. Provide them with the error code and error message from this non-delivery report (NDR) to help them troubleshoot the issue.

Unfortunately, Office 365 support is unlikely to be able to help with these kinds of externally reported errors.

We did some testing this morning.? Those that had RSVPed either Yes or Maybe received an email when the event was canceled.? On the Calendar, the event still exists, but was changed to a gray bar (instead of the red that was chosen when creating the event) and says "This event has been canceled." when hovered over and in the event description.

Your subscriber is likely attempting to reply to locked topics. Ask about what message(s) she is attempting to reply to and check for any controlling hashtags.

The Undeliverable message should include a reason why the message was undeliverable. Ask the user what the reason was.

I just did a quick test of trying to reply to a locked topic using an Outlook live Hotmail account. The Undeliverable message clearly shows the problem.

groups.io gave this error:
Remote server returned an error -> 500 This topic has been locked by the moderators and can no longer be posted to.??

Re: Yahoo Transfers are On Again!

Hi Duane,
Many thanks. I've given the go ahead again.
Martin

[mod note: Normally we ask that Thanks be sent to the individual instead of the group.? In this case, letting us know that the go ahead was given again makes it borderline.]

Re: Calendar Cancellations Not Sending Updates #calendar #issue

I looked all over my calendar and couldn't find a "cancel event" button anywhere. A search in beta turned up only this:??.?It seems that cancelling an event only notifies those who have RSVPed.?To actually remove an event, you have to delete it, and may have to provide separate notification via a post to the group.

Before posting to beta, I suggest checking with someone you know had previously RSVPed in the affirmative to see if they received the expected notification. If they did, what you're proposing is properly. If not, it's a bug that should be sent directly to support.

Although I do have a Premium group, we do not use the RSVP function. Perhaps others here who do can provide better advice.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Yes, each group and subgroup will allow individuals to select their delivery options for each.? You'll probably want to set the default options accordingly so new memers will start with these settings.? If they choose to do so, they can change them later.

I only found a short reference to the Cancel Event function.? It says that those who sent an RSVP ( only available on paid groups) as a Yes or Maybe should receive an email notification.? I don't see anything about it being removed from the Calendar though.? A suggestion to that effect, as well as notifying everyone or adding a notice to the topic, on the beta group might be appropriate.

Re: Choose 'no email' for main?

Frank,

Can a member of a group decide they do not want any email from the main group but choose to get email from a subgroup?

Yes.

A member of a subgroup has a Subscription page for the subgroup which is separate from the one for the primary group (and separate from any other subgroups). They can choose whatever Email Delivery option they prefer for each.

From what I can see, if they unsubscribe from the main list, they are out of the entire group.

True.

They would need to remain members of the primary group. But, they can set their primary group Subscription to No Email or Special Notices Only.

Choose 'no email' for main?

Can a member of a group decide they do not want any email from the main group but choose to get email from a subgroup?

I wanted to use the "main" group as a discussion forum and a "announce" (receive-only) subgroup just for meeting announcements.? But some members may only want to get the announcements.? From what I can see, if they unsubscribe from the main list, they are out of the entire group.

Thanks for any advice.
