Re: Logging In and Setting a password
Frances,
Perhaps say "group members don't even need a password"?I'm not sure what distinction you're making - I think it is also true of people with no memberships yet. I suppose I should create a new email address to test it and see if they land at the same page, with no listed groups, or if the site puts them somewhere else (like the Publicly Listed Groups page). I think it should say "your email address is your account ID".Good idea. I've added it. Shal, could you split up the blocks of text?I don't really care for single-sentence paragraphs, they start to look too much like steps or bullet items. I've left them together by topic, but gave each of them an emphasized lead-in that I think helps tie the paragraphs together. I also tightened up the wording a bit. I did split off that last sentence. You don't need to go to groups.io AND then use the link. Thanks, I think your suggestions have made it a clearer and better page. I know the text is not under the control of this group but IMHO it would be better if it said Request Link to Log In. Is it worth asking Mark to consider a change? Chris |

I like it. Simple and to the point.? My Dad used to say "Micky the Dunce, 1,2,3" Don't have a clue where that originated. Re: Logging In and Setting a password
Hi
Just a suggestion - take this page?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks out of Quick-Start Guide. Put it Advice to Group Members, Topics and Messages, perhaps. It isn't quick start and is daunting to newcomers! Frances -- /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |
Small change in layout in Settings page of groups
#suggestion
Hi everyone,
I somehow (recently) made an error in ticking boxes in Message Formatting in Group Settings. There are two about forcing HTML emails and normalizing HTML. Then a question about attachments. Then a tick box that says: Plain text only Strip out HTML messages Somehow I thought that this referred to attachments. (Not sure why I thought that!) So I didn't have my toolbar in that group. I double-checked my own preferences in Profile, based on the advice on this page -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-composition-tips-and-tricks And that was properly set. See 1.3 ?Select your text markup language in your profile Only by comparing two settings pages from two groups could I finally figure it out. Unticked that box and all is well. I would suggest two things - easy - edit the wiki page to show that you shouldn't strip out HTML messages in Group Settings if you want the toolbar. That is in addition to the profile preferences. Second, I wonder whether the attachments setting could go after this "plain text only". Or more info - what it does to your group? Suggestions? I can send it to Beta after help from you! Re: Logging In and Setting a password
I decided to send this new text to a group and I tested as I went.
I think this needs a rewording -?
You don't need to go to groups.io AND then use the link. Just use the link in your browser. At least not in Firefox on my Mac! Cheers, Frances /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |

Shal, could you split up the blocks of text??
Instead of: ? If you don't receive the Log In email within a few minutes, double-check that you've entered your email address correctly. Also check your email Spam or Junk folders in case your email service didn't deliver the message to your Inbox. The link in the message will expire in an hour; if that happens and you can't log in start at step 1 again. This process provides you with a login to Groups.io and any groups that you subscribe to using the same address. The login will stay active for 30 days, renewed each time you visit. If your login expires you can repeat this process any time you wish. You may also repeat this process on other computers, browsers, or devices you wish to use, you do not need to log out of one to use another. See?this page?if you want more information. USE: If you don't receive the Log In email within a few minutes, double-check that you've entered your email address correctly. Re: Logging In and Setting a password
Bob,
Sure, use/or not.Ok. I've made (a slightly embellished version of) your instructions the "How to log in to your groups" item in Quick Start. And put my lengthier tome back under Advice. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In I couldn't help myself, I added a couple brief paragraphs of supplementary information with links after the four steps. Hopefully without impairing the perceived simplicity of the process. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: transfer files aso to Groups
Cees,
Just export from yahoo an CVS file , but when I want to upload it to"Ralph Mellish, a file clerk at an insurance company, was on his way to work as usual. When [dramatic chord]... nothing happened." -- Monte Python Can you give us some detail on what you tried, and what did or did not happen? You mention a CVS file. Was it exported from a Y!Group database table, and were you trying to create a Database in Groups.io from it? If so, see if this Wiki page helps: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Databases Or were you actually on the Files page of your Groups.io group? Did you click the blue Upload File button? Did you use the Browse button to find your file on your computer? Did you click the Add button add the file to your group? If so, see if this Wiki page helps. Note that selecting and uploading a single file works just the same: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Bulk-File-Upload Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: using the group?s owner address shows senders alias
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýShal, Chris and Duane, ? yes, in the email version which I received in my mail account it does list the owner addy behind my name. But as you remarked, this doesn?t change the issue: group members were supposed to get Christmas greetings from all of us moderators, not just from me alone. ? I obviously forgot the discussion about this issue or thought it was fixed. ? Well, we must live with it now. ? I wish all of you wonderful Christmas days, and I do thank you for your constant and reliable engagement! ? Greetings from Cologne, Germany Victoria |

So maybe I?ve got s.th. wrong in the settings?Victoria; further to Duane's reply it would be worth your having a look at the email version of your Test Post sent out by Groups.io; I would expect it to show your Display Name (Victoria) followed by<owner...> etc after it, rather than your own personal email address. What your screen shots show is exactly the point that was under discussion last April, so I very much doubt if it is down to anything you have done (or left undone) in your group settings. Mark is away until 3rd January so there is no point in rushing to post anything on beta in the next few days. I'll try to rework my beta post of last April and post the draft here to see what reaction it gets on GMF before submitting it on beta. Chris |
