Re: Address format not restored by deleting subgroup #groupname #subgroups

Michael,

I would consider subgroups if:
-the official email address remained unchanged <[email protected]>
-subgroups were the intuitive <[email protected]> or even <[email protected]>
To elaborate on my answer to Sarah, putting the subgroup names in the user field of the address was originally how it was done. One of the disadvantages is that the email commands already live in that space. So you end up with constructs like:

[email protected]

Which was thought to be rather ugly. I had forgotten this, but for a while both formats existed at once:

The subdomain format, [email protected], also fit with Marks plans with regard to Enterprise groups and their ability to use custom domain names for their groups. Those can be addressed as ExampleSub@...; so consistency was another argument for using the subdomain format with non-Enterprise groups (or enterprise groups that don't have their own domain).

You are free, of course, to bring this up in beta - just be aware that it is not a new topic and you'll likely need to address the comments and reasons already discussed there.

Re: Address format not restored by deleting subgroup #groupname #subgroups

Sarah,

Why not email this to the support address or discuss it on the beta group.

This was discussed extensively on the beta group when subgroups were first being implemented. Specifically including variations such as those Michael suggests.I don't think you'll find much enthusiasm for changing it now.

Search beta for "subgroup" and "subdomain", maybe also "addressing" to find those threads.

Why not email this to the support address or discuss it on the beta group. I like the idea. I did change my mail address for my lists, but yeah I like yoru idea as well.

Yes, it is not lost - however it is now an alias, as the ¡®official¡¯ email address of your group has changed to a less intuitive one.
Why does Groups.io screw-up a sensible email address to create confusion and an odd email address???

This is why I do not permit Subgroups in any of my Groups.

Re: TLS errors delivering mails to @pp.inet.fi destinations

Groups.io supports TLS 1.2 as noted in ? It would seem to me that the ISP cipher is the source of the problem.

Thanks Shal for your reply.

It looks like the provider requires TLS v1.2 on the handshake and without that the handshake fails.

I will send this finding to groups.io support for further actions.

Thanks,
Erik

transfer files aso to Groups

Started a new group, see that Groups i.o. is not able to transfer files from Yahoo yet.
Now I want to look if I can do it myself.? Just export from yahoo an CVS file , but when I want to upload it to Groups nothing happens.

What to do ? or how ?

Thanks in advance,
Cees? [email protected]

Re: TLS errors delivering mails to @pp.inet.fi destinations

Erik,

I have not been able to pinpoint this myself but seek for assistance
is there anything which can be do as a group admin or this issue
deeper within groups.io delivery mechanisms.
Your best source of information is the member's Subscription page (click on their row in the group's Members list). There's an Email Delivery History tab which should show you information about successful and unsuccessful deliveries, and in particular the status response from recently rejected messages.

In most cases it will be up to the member to report that response to their email service provider to find out why the message(s) from Groups.io were rejected, and how to correct the problem.

In a case of a pattern of rejection by a given email service you might also report the problem to [email protected] Generally speaking Groups.io won't be able to directly solve the problem but they may attempt to contact the service's technical contacts to resolve the issue.

Re: Address format not restored by deleting subgroup #groupname #subgroups

Luke,

I edited your Subject text for clarity.

I added a subgroup to my account ...
?
Actually, to one of your groups.
?
and didn't realize that would cause me to lose my?[email protected]?email address.
?
As Duane mentioned, that address should continue to work inbound to your primary group, but yes messages from your primary and subgroup(s) would now have the new subdomain style address.
?
I deleted the subgroup, but still cannot revert back to the original email address for the group.
?
I'm feeling a bit of whiplash, I thought the outbound messages of the primary group would revert to the original format (whereas previous to Mark's comment cited below I thought it wouldn't).
?
I don't recommend going through a rename and delete process, I would expect that to cause much more trouble than it is worth.

If you mean direct add, you need to py for 1 month of premium, at least I think you do, then you can upload ia csv or what not. I do mine via txt.

Take care

It isn't really lost and will work fine for sending to the main group.? To the best of my knowledge, the only way to revert would be to create a new group, change the name of the old group to a placeholder, change the name of the new group to the old one, then delete the old group.? The intermediate step is important because if you just delete a group, the name isn't available for some length of time.? There may also be snags, such as moving files or photos that exist in the original group though.

Hi folks,

I added a subgroup to my groups.io account and didn't realize that would cause me to lose my?[email protected]?email address. It automatically converted to main@[email protected]. In my opinion, the latter is far too long and I'd like to revert my group back to the original.

I deleted the subgroup, but still cannot revert back to the original email address for the group. Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks.?

TLS errors delivering mails to @pp.inet.fi destinations

Erik Finskas OH2LAK

Hi all.

Many of our group members have commented that groups.io mails are not more delivered to Telia/Sonera consumer @pp.inet.fi email addresses and this has been due to some TLS errors.

I have not been able to pinpoint this myself but seek for assistance is there anything which can be do as a group admin or this issue deeper within groups.io delivery mechanisms.

Best regards,

Re: Is the invite working?

Alex,
Delay very often isn't a function of groups.io but some specific email providers.? One in particular that seems to delay messages is Roadrunner (xx@...)? For a time ALL messages to subscribers on Roadrunner were delayed until late at night and and then, a very limited time was given to pass the messages to them from groups.io.

I sent out 40 invites today.? Several of the invites have been accepted.? ?So far it seems to be working fine.? However, I was unaware that there was a limit to the number of invitations I could send at a particular time.

And similar reports of failure to receive invitations?

P.S., As? for my earlier post asking where the "add members" feature is:
I figured that out. Mine is currently a free account. The Add feature comes with premium paid accounts.

Hi

I just tested it and it works fine for me. Did it actually send? Check Sent Invitations.?
Or is it an address you have added in as an email alias? Of course, it could have been marked as spam.
