No, the replacement (it was actually split into separate subjects), with correct wording is now:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-in-and-How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password
Wikis are "live", so you can't just save a link and expect it to work forever.

Joe, I see what you're trying to do.? I do that a lot to capture and work with data.? But groups.io is not displaying a tabular view with columns so it's gonna be hard to capture what you want in a way that works (to load into a spreadsheet for example).
Best bet is to find an mbox to csv converter like this ->?

(I googled 'read mbox excel' to find it, there may be others)

It's been correct on the wiki page since Nov 15.
Your comment makes me believe you did not understand my complete suggestion about ¡®passwords¡¯ vs ¡®login links' and/or I was unclear in my acceptance of your critique of that part of my suggestion:

What I had suggested:
| Passwords/login links
| To say users can access the website without a password by using a ¡®login link¡¯ is misleading as ¡®login links¡¯ are merely temporary passwords. There is no difference in what access they enable, only the duration of access. ¡®Login links¡¯ should always include the explanation that they are temporary (30 day) passwords, and the suggestion to create a permanent password along with the explanation of how little effort is required to ¡®upgrade¡¯ a login link to a (permanent) password.

The GMF Wiki page that I was referring to:
"GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password-and-Profile%3B-Changing-Email-Address"
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password-and-Profile%3B-Changing-Email-Address
now seems to no longer exist.

It looks like its replacement is:
"Profile and Email Address - Identity, changing email address, adding an email alias, merging accounts.¡±
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts
[ in the "Advice to Group Members¡± section of /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home ]
which also does not identify ¡®login links¡¯ as temporary passwords, nor how simple it is to upgrade a ¡®login link¡¯ to a (permanent) password.

You can enter a private message to someone via groups.io, but they are received by email only...they are not made available online, or even retained in any way by the system that I know of. Perhaps that will be a feature of the groups.io app, but for now it does not exist.

Sorry,

Duane, so the only way in IO for one member to communicate directly to another member privately is just to email them, correct??

That's what the Private option does, albeit via email.

You should be able to accomplish the same thing by using the Messages view, /g/GroupManagersForum/messages, since they get numbered as they come in.? You can reverse the sort order by using the Date at the upper right.

Is there anyway to change the display of postings to show the Posting number first in the threads?

On YahooGroups when I would go to look at the threads It could display them in the "Relaxed" "Slim" form with the message number first, then the message subject and then the user who submitted it and the date submitted. I would then manually copy this data and put it into a spreadsheet which allowed me to work with each posting using its posting number as the reference number.

I do not see a way to display the data on Groups.io like that (i.e. with the message number first). I tried exporting my group data to see if that would give me what I needed, but the json files were not showing what I needed and when I tried to open the Mbox file it was way to much info to parse for my needs.

Any idea on how to do this? I have attached a screen shot from YahooGroups of how the messages would display.

TIA!

Re: So no PRIVATE MESSAGING, right? Any hope it will be implemented?

But the Chat function is not a private conversation between one member to another, correct? I'm referring to what Yahoo had and still has---the ability to send a message directly to another member, so that only you and the member you message are in the conversation, and you and the member are the only ones who can see the conversation between you two.?

Re: So no PRIVATE MESSAGING, right? Any hope it will be implemented?

By the way, I mean the ability of one member to "private message" another member via the system. Not about overall group privacy. Just the ability to "private" message another member. Yahoo had it and am surprised IO doesn't.

Disappointed upon searching that PM's don't exist in the IO Groups,
right? So the members simply email each other?
Janie
When replying from the web page, members compose their reply in the reply window and then need to click on the PRIVATE button in the lower right hand corner below the window to reply to just the sender.

If it's not so much the Private and more the Messaging that you're interested in, you could use the Chat function.

Private messaging in the context of group discussions is possible if it is enabled for the group. See Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Reply To and uncheck the box saying "Remove Other Reply Options." See also?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Replying-privates?for further details on this.

Group Owners (and Moderators with proper permissions) can send private emails to anyone in their group via either the Member List or the Directory.

Regular subscribers can also send private emails via the member Directory, but only to those subscribers who have created a group profile and enabled sharing.?
?
Hope this helps,

THE ABOVE SHOULD HAVE SAID "So no PRIVATE MESSAGING BETWEEN ONE MEMBER TO ANOTHER"

Re: Member levels - is this a possibility? #howto #membership

There are no features that work as you want.? One option would be to create a subgroup for the permanent members where you could store information that temporary members shouldn't have access to.? You could allow everyone to join the main group, but only 'full-access' members in the subgroup.? (Everyone has to be a member of the primary group before they can join a subgroup.)? This could lead to some confusion though, especially on where to post, so probably isn't the best approach.? Another option would be to have separate groups, though that would create an extra step and maybe more work.

I've thought about having an expiration date for one of my groups (a paid membership club), but haven't pursued it.? A suggestion on the beta group (official suggestion box for the site) would be the best place to ask about having this possibility implemented.

This would have to be enabled in the Files control section by choosing "Allow Photos In Files" on the Settings page for the group.? If enabled, there would be no resizing of photos stored here as there can be in the Photos section.

Member levels - is this a possibility? #howto #membership

We are a small community group and have two types of members - those that will be joining us shortly but need access to the group (temporary member) and those that meet the requirements to be admitted with full access to our group (full member).?

In BigTent, which we previously used, we could allow the former (temporary members) to have limited access to the group and, I think (I was not moderating the BigTent group), set the membership to expire in a certain amount of days unless upgraded to full member. Can this be done here in Groups.io?

Our community group does not charge any membership fee or anything like that but we have a vetting process to ensure that those who apply for membership (temporary or full) are bonafide.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not via the "Upload Photos" method.?

The option is available with "Upload Files" and there is nothing stopping you from uploading photos to the files section, so you could get around it that way.
