Re: Not confirmed

If you send an invitation that is accepted, you should never see the NC badge.? That only shows up for people that join groups.io on their own and don't confirm their email address by clicking on the link in the email they receive for that purpose.

On Premium groups, an admin can direct add and confirm email addresses, but not on a free group.

Not confirmed

Just sent out invitations and people are joining the group. One of them somehow omitted his first name so I added it for him. But it still says NC next to his name on the Member list, and I see no way to "confirm" him. Should I just delete and re-enter him?

Yes, that's what it means.

There have been rumors that Mark can upload a message archive in mbox format to a group. But several people have recently been directed to ask him about this (usually people trying to migrate from MailMan or Big Tent). Only one or two have ever reported that he did it...and that was two years ago or more.??/g/GroupManagersForum/search?q=import+mbox

Even then, this was to transfer a new group. I don't know if the messages can be interleaved so they remain in date-order, as you would probably expect them to.
?
Bottom line:? No one here can do it, and your best source for information on this is to contact support.

Bruce

There is currently no way to move content between subgroups?via the web interface. However, both files and messages can be exported (Admin>Settings>Export Group Data button at the top of the page). The resulting message archive is human-readable and can be uploaded as another file to your user group, but cannot be merged with the existing messages.

Does this mean that they couldn't be added to an existing group that already has messages?

Exported files are readily uploaded, but you will have to manually re-create the directory structure and descriptions, and they will lose their owner information.

Hmmm... the directory structure is one of the most annoying parts. To do. Hmmmm....?

Too bad that Mark doesn't support and Import from Groups.io to an existing group in Groups.io.

It would help to establish exactly what he is doing; if he is simply trying to discuss topics that are not allowed that's one thing, but the thread title suggests that he is actually being abusive, which is another matter entirely. If he is being abusive then it might be worth contacting his Service Provider because it is quite likely / certain that by being abusive he is in breach of the Ts & Cs of the service.

Does your group allow members to "join", or do they have to "apply" to join? If the latter then an examination of the originating IP address in each case might help you spot him early and "head him off at the pass"

Is your group moderated? If it is you can at least stop any disorderly posts being released. If it isn't moderated then I suggest that "new members" be put on moderation for enough posts for any troublemaker to be indentified before anything inappropriate escapes.

A Bruce suggested by saying this will not keep the same person from attempting to subscribe using a different email address so it may turn out to be an ongoing battle of wits between you and him. There is one further possibility; is his conduct in breach of either / both 1.6 & 1.7 of the Groups.io Conditions of Use here: /static/tos#2 If it is then Mark may be able to take action against him. Quite what or how will be down to Mark...

Chris? ?

Merging Groups

Sean T. Allen

Hi,

Over in Pony land, we originally set up two groups:

One for users of the language:

And one for people developing the language:

We've since decided we'd rather have one group and would like to merge them. Ideally this would be mean, that only the user group exists afterwards. And...

  • all members of the dev group are added to the user group
  • all files from dev group are moved to user group
  • all calendar entries from dev group are moved to user group
  • all messages are moved

In the end we can do almost everything by hand but

  • all files from dev group are moved to user group
  • all messages are moved

Are both problematic. Is there a way to do what we want?

How to Ban?
Go to Admin>Members and find his user record. Tic the adjacent checkbox, go to the bottom of the page, and select "Ban" from the "Actions" pull-down menu.

Note that this will not keep the same person from attempting to subscribe using a different email address.

Hope this helps,

Abusive person, how to get rid of him?

I have a person who keeps signing up with different usernames, and trying to discuss topics that are not allowed.
He focuses on me, the Owner and Moderator.
I have put him on the setting of not allowed to post.
I have tried to ban him but I'm not sure I understand the process.
So far he has signed up with five different names, but I can ban all 5 if him.

How to Ban?

Thanks,

Try Direct Adding yourself to the subgroup, or have the Moderator do it.

It is possible for group owners (and moderators with proper permissions) to bulk-delete old topics using topics-test. See??

There is currently no way to do the same with individual messages, or for messages by subscriber.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

P.S. Please note that old emails do not count against the group storage allocation?

Delete multiple emails from a groups site

Cherry Delaney

hello all,
when we moved to groups from yahoo we moved all the old emails and now realize we need to delete outdated emails. I searched for the ones I sent to delete them and it takes three steps to do this for each email with over 1000 emails attributed to me. I looked for a way to edit my email but found no way to delete more than one email at a time. This is too inefficient. Help!
Cherry

Re: Database

As long as you have permission it is fairly easy in groups.io to create a database

Click on Databases on the left hand side
Click on Create Database
Enter the database name, short description, description
Decide who can view and edit the database and rows
Define each column and its format
Click on Create Table

Another way to create it is to import a csv file if you have a database/spreadsheet already created with the right information. That is another process. You may want to do a search in the GMF messages to find past discussions

Subgroup question about owners and moderators

I am the owner of a group with subgroups, and we have a moderator set up in the main group who can create subgroups.? She just created her first subgroup, and as an owner I thought I should be able to see it. I can direct add a new member and can add her to that subgroup, but it isn't in my list in Your Groups nor in the Subgroups list in main over on the left hand side. I can see it in main/admin/subgroups. Of course I can't verify the settings since I can't get in there, but here is what she was supposed to change:
? ? ? ? ?At Group Title copy the name from the email address directly below
?
At Subgroup Category choose Education
At Member Directory choose Subscribers
At Members Visible choose Owners and Moderators with the correct permissions
At Hide Email Addresses in Archives choose Mask all email addresses in the archives
At Spam Control check Restricted Membership
At Message Policies check Disable No Email
At Reply To choose Group
? ? ? ? At Message Formatting/Allow Attachments choose Bounce

What do we need to modify so that the owners/moderators can see the subgroups?
Thanks
Beth

Re: Delete Messages

I have been using the "-test" parameter in the URL line successfully for some time now. I'd like to see it become a permanent feature.
However, while this works great to delete Topics in bulk, it does Not allow bulk delete of individual messages which I'd prefer.
Sometimes I wish to delete only a select number of messages within a topic en masse.
